i really like that swing plane. definitely not over the top. i'd steepen out that downswing and stay into the shot a little bit longer. on the downswing, keep the box that your forearm, club, and upper arm make at the top and come down at the ball with it. it will require you to turn your hips a bit faster, but you will retain more lag and your shots will fly lower, straighter, and have more spin.

my good friend ernie explains this quite well.

My thoughts:

- Keep the left arm straighter, especially at the top, it looks like it's collapsing some. This should help to move the hands away from your head and even with or just outside your right shoulder at the top.
- I'm not sure if it's because you're swinging short irons, but eventually you're going to want to build up some speed. You're kind of guiding the club down (understandable if you haven't been playing golf long). A proper 3/4 shot would be a shorter backswing, but with similar acceleration to a full shot.
- Do you have a front view video?

My thoughts:

not yet but i might go going out tomorrow and I have lessons this weekend that I will be recording as well.

It's a pretty simple problem here that I see. The club is up above your shoulder at the top of the backswing, not behind it. From that position, it's hard to come from the inside. Even though this is a short club, it is still a bit high above the head. The sand wedge actually looks better, which is unusual considering it should be higher.

Because I'm so inflexible, I had trouble getting the club behind me as much as I should. This shows the top of my backswing 3 months ago, and today. You can see the quite clearly. I could only get it flatter by making it shorter. I didn't lose much, if any distance, but difference I gained an incredible amount of control.

I also notice the ball compresses much, much better with a flatter swing. That's what you need to work on, quite simple really. Get the club behind you, not above you.

+1 to shanks. That's the main fault I see too. What might be causing you to swing so upright is your cramped setup. Your arms are not hanging down straight from your shoulders, they are rested against your body. I'll use myself as a model.

Right picture before, left picture after. See my spacing in the picture on the left? That's the type of setup posture I think would help you with your plane (and get more control and power). You seem like my setup on the right, all cramped up. This lead to disastrous problems for me. Good luck!

Not to get off-topic, but dude, you're not inflexible. If you can achieve the positions in the pictures you posted, you don't get to complain about flexibility. You've got plenty. Maybe not Anthony Kim level, but plenty.

To the OP, I agree about the setup changes. Straighten your knees a bit more and look at the ball through the center of your eyes by letting your chin sag a bit. Too many golfers look at the ball out of the bottom of their eyes because of the old (stupid) advice to keep your chin up.

lol... if I actually was hitting in the 170s, I think whenever I posted something, people should do the exact opposite

Also kept my arms hanging down instead of out because if I had it out, i feel my arms would come inside more causing me to come over the ball

which was shown from my previous vids. After doing this type of swing, i noticed to slice more. Where my right elbow would tuck inside causing my club to come more inside and out. Also, trying to flatten out my swing more any tips?

Not keeping the chin up is some good advice, I've been working on that a lot lately and I've seen some good results.

    • Day 22: mirror work for a while. Working on my elbow in the downswing - keeping it in a better position.
    • Day 36 (16 Dec 25) - continued the exaggerated left foot weight shift trigger adding some easy low flighted pitches with the 5h and a few putting style bump and runs with the 5h as well.
    • Day 442 - 2025-12-16 Got some swings in at an indoor academy a little south of Erie.
    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
