Still can't hit the driver. Driver- pull cut, pull cut, push cut, hook, hook, push draw, thin push. I just can't stop flipping at the ball. Can't get the new piece down with the driver, the left hip going around and up faster. I just end up flipping. My approaches where not good, but my ball was out of play on a lot of my drives. When I stand over the ball I feel uncomfortable. I don't feel like I can align my self square to my target line. Every time I line up I am aiming right, even on my putts ( mostly left to right breaks). Usually I pick out an intermediate target between the ball and the target, then I try to line up my body to be square to that line. From there I always feel like I am aimed right and the club head is aimed left. When I hit a 5 iron on a par 3, it felt like a slight push, decently solid, but it started over a tree 20 yards right of my intended target line. I also find that when I try to aim the club first it seems aimed left of where I think. So I think I am use to aiming right, not parallel to my intended target line. I'm going to start aiming my club head first, then line up to that. Just retrain myself to line up square to the target line I want.

I've been there. I hate that. It's like you whole body is not communicating with the other parts.

LOL, I feel the exact same way, @saevel25 . My alignment is horrendous right now. I filmed a one hole vLog today before a thunderstorm chased me off the course, and looking at it now, I'm shocked over how terrible it is. Ugh. I may play an 18 hole round with an alignment stick for every shot.

Alignment is one of my keys right now, too. I'm trying to find a way to line myself up and then just trust it. I've been doing the club head thing in practice, so hopefully it carries to the course.

That's exactly what Paul Kaster (5SK Instructor) told me to do. I'm going to start laying down clubs as an alignment aid before I swing.

It's illegal either way, so I might as well just leave it there. Probably will help with hitting my lines in putting too.

Oh it's definitely illegal on the putting green. But it's ok off the green, provided you're using clubs, and not alignment sticks. 8-2 and 14-3 I believe.

Oh haha, really? Sweet. Yah, I have a rule book in my bag, but a rules guru I am not, clearly... and we totally just hijacked @saevel25 's thread, but I guess it's on topic.

Good stuff. Thanks, man.

Shot a 77 today, one over front, and a 5 over back nine. Rating 70.5, par 71, slope 120. 6.12 handicap differential. 6400 yards. Left 7 shots on the course. I had three 3-putts. Some of the short game shots should have been up and down, like being just off the fringe and takin 3 putts from 30 feet. I also missed a few putts inside 6 feet. Few short game shots that I didn't get on the green. I found my driver today. My irons were decent. Later in the round I still had the too inside too much draw going on. My 3 wood off the deck was the club of the day. I had three nGIR from 250 yards on two of the 4 par fives. 10 GIR, 17 nGIR 3 FIR, 9 nFIR 34 putts, should have been 30 putts 2 out of 8 Scrambles I'll coin nFIR as drives not in the fairway, but in the light zones that don't hamper the ability to have a clear shot at the green. Honestly today the rough was easy to handle. So I didn't mind slightly missing the fairway. Need to work on my putting from 5 to 10 feet, pulling putts. Need to work on my scrambling. Need to keep working on the backswing piece as I slowly get use to the new hip and torso action thru impact. Some pluses and some weaknesses, things are looking up. Today I made a solid effort to make sure I was lining up my club first than my body. This seemed to help a ton with keeping the ball in play. I was much less flippy, which I think is more of a pull the ball movement when I am not aiming 20 yards right of where I need. I think aiming better made hitting my target line better because I instinctively knew I didn't need to adjust for the poor aim.

Or are you still lining them up left? Remember not to get your eyes outside the ball.

Need to work on my scrambling.

Take the simple shot when it's there.

Yeah.

They felt like pulls. I'll keep working at the alignment and setup. I got a mirror I can lay on the ground and see where my eyes are at. True enough, sometimes it try to get to fancy with the short game shots.

If they are pulls, it's because you take the face back too shut. You have a drill for that as well.

Some notes on putting

Setup

1) Set up so the putter is flush with the ground first, keeping hands lower

2) Bend over at the waist bit more, and allow more flex in the knees. Don't let back posture get too rigid and upright. This tends to make the hand position feel really low and close to the body, and also makes my arms less soft, which makes it harder to float putter. The posture feeling is a lot more stable and relaxed over the ball when I do this, instead of rigid. Really makes it easier to control the putter.

Stroke

1) Take the putter back by having it open earlier to keep the path from going back too straight, this will help against pulling the putts.

2) keep the stroke soft in the arms and wrist to allow for float

3) Work on making a longer backstroke for most putts, I get too short and too jabby with some putts. Practicing the really long backstroke and trying to hit very short putts helps this feeling.

Grip looks a little palmy so check that heel pad

Would like to see this picture change, feel like your right ear is closer to your right shoulder, yours is the opposite. Causes the hands to work a bit too far away from you from A1-2, makes it harder to turn and can tend to promote a path that's more across the ball.

Just wanted to do a brush up on the set up.

In the recent video I have, this one isn't too bad. Though I do have to make an effort to get the hands leaning forward a bit (image on the right). I can get too much angle in my left wrist at address. Though I probably could use a wider stance for a 6 iron. Maybe, like one step to the right with my back foot (so 4 inches). The grip actually looks pretty good there, though I do get into trouble with the right thumb going down grip, instead of laying over top of it.

Do you find having the slight shoulder tilt, and the head tilt helps with allowing the hips and shoulders to turn better through impact. That is the turn rates through impact, where the left hip goes back and up quicker.

    • Day 206 (24 Nov 24)  - An easy session with the 54deg wedge and hard foam balls / one simple goal - distance control thru backswing length while not decelerating.  Had a playing partner comment they noticed me decelerating on a couple short wedge shots in last round.  Hit from distances from close to 40yds down to 20.
    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
