Golf: Obsession, passion, addiction, other?

How would you classify your attitude toward golf? I have come to the point where I think about golf all of the time, but I am not sure if I am obsessed, passionate, or simply addicted to golf. I think of negative things when I think of addictions, and obsession makes me think of people who simply focus too much on wrong things. For me, I simply think of golf as a passion. It's something I love, try to fit it into all of my free time, but don't let it get in the way of the rest of my life.

My wife, I am sure she would say I am obsessed or addicted

I think I'm addicted and that's about it. Maybe slightly obsessed, but not THAT bad. I don't think I qualify as passionate about golf.

Obsession - the domination of one's thoughts or feelings by a persistent idea, image, desire, etc.

Passion - any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling, as love or hate.

Addiction - Compulsive physiological and psychological need for a habit-forming substance

I would say out of those three, Obsesion fits the best. I spend alot of idle time thinking about golf, my swing, the next time I will get out and play. However, I am very passionate about the game, I love a good session at the range, but loath bad shots on the course. and Finally, I am addicted at times as evidenced by how ancy I get when I can't play during the winter.

either way, placing defined definitions on the words you choose should add something to the thread.

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

Obsession.

When winter rolls around I go into golf obsession hibernation. Its not really in my thoughts, I'm on to some other obsession until the weather changes. It like golf is a 3 season obsession. 4th season? Who knows, varies every year.

Right now, the obsession is at its peak. Club ho, instruction, watching, talking, constant playing and golf store stalking...

      Code of Conduct Not Entered as Local Rule - Still Valid?

      Rule 1.2b refers you to a section in the Committee Procedures (Section 5I) that helps explain what a Code of Conduct may (and may not) do.  Defining acceptable behavior (including smoking) and applying Stroke of DQ penalties are certainly within the Committee's authority. That Code of Conduct certainly should be available, either in written form or in a webpage accessible to all.  It may not show up on the "standard local rules" for an organization, the "hard card", as it sounds like its a policy of this particular golf course. Assuming that's the case it should show up on the Notice to Players for this particular event.  If you can't find it, ask someone, send an email, try to find out.   In summary, yes the Committee can DQ (or withdraw) a Player for smoking, even before or between rounds.  But its up to you to go from there, communication is the key here.

      Hmm... I not sure I completely understand. If the course has a no smoking policy, then he shouldn't smoke at the course.  I'm assuming since you are aware of the policy, it must be written down somewhere.  As far as getting disqualified from the tournament, I would think that would be up to the committee. But it feels like it is within their power to disqualify, so why take the chance?
