Using a high speed camera to analyze golf swing?

Hi all,

I average between 100 and 110 for a round of golf, and I'm trying to improve. My swing is pretty inconsistent. I'll chunk the ball on the course about 15% of the time, and I can only hit the fairway with a drive about 30% of the time.

As someone who doesn't know what angles to be looking for, will purchasing a high speed camera to analyze my golf swing be worthwhile? I know the golfing instructors use them, but they also know what to look for.

I was considering buying the Casio EX-FS10 (records at 1000 fps), which only costs around $150.

1000 fps at 224x64 resolution. You should do some research when it sounds too good to be true.

I belive a camera is the best training aid one can have. If you don't see what to fix yourself, you can upload the video here, or to an online instructor, like Evolvr.

There is no point in using 1000 FPS at 224x64, it becomes too grainy. The FS10 got 420 @ 224x168, but if I had the camera, I would probably use 210 FPS @ 480x360, that is a good resolution. I know some in here got the Casio FC100, but it's a bit more pricey, I haven't delved into the details to see why. It got 210 FPS @ 480x360 also, so I assume the FS10 is OK.

I paid under $200 for a tiny Casio that does 210 FPS. The EX-FC100. Well worth the investment.

I have thought about doing this as well, trying to find somewhere in Calgary is hard, rather than buying a camera

I have this model. 210fps works for me fine and it has been very useful considering 2 lessons pay for it.

There are also videos in the sidebar that show the same camera doing full speed, 420fps, and 1000fps.

I'm almost definitely buying this camera as it's only about $150 on amazon. This equates to about 1hr in golf lessons as far as price!

I have gone to Leadbetter school and using a high speed camera is a must.  I have researched the best camera for the money.  The Casio EX-FC100 as stated by an earlier responder is what I chose.  The newer version EX-FC150 is much more expensive plus bigger.  I purchased mine for under $200 where the FC150 is nearly $300; no additional benefits other than being bigger.  I have also made some big gains by going back to basics by reading Hogan's Five Secrets and some other books regarding the great Ben.

I agree. The best way to know more about it to visit an expert about cameras. They will help you in assemble and what type of camera is  appropriate for that.
