New Cleveland Putters

So I picked up the Cleveland Classic 2 for 65 dollars about 4 months ago and have been impressed. I have always loved their wedges and figured I would give their putter a try. Over the years I have owned five or six scotties and a couple pings. I really feel that these Cleveland Classics putt just as well if not better than any of the previous putters I have owned.
I was just wondering if anyone has tried out these putters and if they think they can compete with Scotty Cameron?

I have a Classic 2. When I got it I loved it - I probably will again one day - solid putter, but I don't think Scotty Cameron is losing any sleep over them.

I have a classic 1 and like it alot. They aren't meant to compete with Scotty's. They cost $70 brand new.

For those of us who realize it is the archer and not the arrow they are a great option.

The classic line has won on tour before too.

I have a three year old Cleveland VP1 milled putter that I love. I like it so much it replaced my Bettinardi for the time being. I think Cleveland is doing a great job at making some great clubs for the short game......which EVERYONE needs work on. Smart company.

What's in my bag:

I have a BRZ 4.5 model. The feel is nearly on par with my Scotty, but I don't really like the insert. I prefer the original one, but I got the putter for free so it doesn't really matter.

I think "better" is a little subjective. But they are fantastic putters. And for $70, it's an exceptional value. When I sent my Scotty in for some work, I was going to get the Classic Series #1 for my temporary club because it had similar feel and weighting to my Scotty.

If anyone is considering a milled face putter, they should definately check out the Cleveland Classic Series. Fantastic putters they are.

What I Play:

4 Wood: G15

Hy: Callaway FT 3Hy

Irons: AP1 4-PW

Wedges: Vokey 52* & 60*, Mizuno MP-T 10 58*

Putter: Newport Studio Select 2.7

Is that the mallet putter? If so, I've got the same one and I love it!! I demo'd every putter golf galaxy and Dick's had available and it was my clear favorite. Granted, they didn't have any scotty cameron putters, but I wouldn't have bought one anyways.

Why have you singled out Scotty Cameron putters here?

Any putter of any brand can compete with any other putter. It is what suits you that matters. I wish that people would stop carrying on about SC putters as if they are some sort of benchmark. They make good putters. So do all other manufacturers. You have found a putter that you like, have said that to you it feels as good if not better than your previous SC putters. You have answered your own question. In any case, the Cleveland putter is cast, not milled, so is therefore a lot cheaper. They don't "compete" based on price, which seems to be the yardstick of quality for many, which is obviously insane, but you read it here time and time again. But there is absolutely no reason why a cast putter (with or without a milled face) should not be as good as a milled one.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

So I'm guessing you haven't tried one? I have a Cleveland Classics BRZ 4.5 and a Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2, and I have to say the feel is close. Not the same, but for the money I recommend the Cleveland to anyone looking for a very very good putter.

I just bought a Cleveland Classic 2 and I love it. Ive owned Camerons and Bettinardis and IMO the Cleveland Classic is every bit as good as either of those putters and a lot more expensive. Its very impressive that Cleveland can make such a great putter and sell it at such a low price.

I went to Golf Galaxy the other day and tried the some putters out and the Cleveland Platinum Black CC2 putter might be one of the best putters I have ever used.. The feel is ridiculous, the look is great, it rolls the ball dead on, but the best part is its only $79.99!!!!!!!!This might be only of the best deals out there right now if it was a sale but it's not it's the regular price....  I dont talk up alot of equipment but I really had to mention these putters do yourself a favor and give these a chance you wont regret it....

I can't wait to go back this week to pick it up.....

I've played the Cleveland Classic 2 - same design as the new Platinum Black you referenced.      This old school mallet design feels good to me ... I just hate that hard rubber grip Cleveland uses on their Classic series (I know, easy enough to change ... but don't get why they use that grip)

Bought a BRZ #5 brand new..... I never buy anything new!   This is a really nice feeling and great looking putter

      Thanks and it already has! Like I said, the last three months of my season were the best golf I've ever played. I'm within the realm of "this is fun for me" now. It was super tough grinding thru that break 90 consistently zone where I just kept hitting the toe, I kept popping up and out of every shot, getting steep. I am one of those guys doomed to shoot 95 forever if I don't really put a lot of work in, and I just wasn't gonna go out like that. My goal is definitely to get to that point of playing lots of courses and stuff like you are, but it's been the right thing for me to focus on developing a better motion. The amount of gym work too I've had to do? I see a DPT with TPI level 2 certification twice a week. I'm in the gym five days a week. The sun zaps the crap out of me for the gym too and I need that energy for all the other things I do on top of this stuff. I'm not really trying to become scratch either tho that would be nice! I'm just enjoying the puzzle that is golf, trying to overcome its challenges in an efficient and smart way. I'm very aware of the physical limitations I'm fighting so this summer has been continuing to address those with a good therapist.  But that's awesome, my goal is to get out there and enjoy new courses, play more rounds, just like you're doing! We'll see how this season goes, but I might be near doing that, if I'm not there already. I was only losing like one ball a round over those last three months or so, which is great for me on these sometimes tricky Florida courses.

      Good luck and I hope it all pays off for you.  I play in 2 year round stroke play tournament leagues.  I enjoy it, love the competitiveness and enjoy both groups and playing different courses every week.  My goals these days is not to be come a scratch player but to shoot under my age.

      😄! I'm not kidding, man! The summers here are pretty rough! I'm not playing at sunrise or sunset though! Seriously, I brought a buddy of mine out for a round in June and he's normally good at handling heat and even he was like "yea this isn't very fun" after about 9 holes.  Keep in mind, I'm not really "playing," either. I'm grinding on the range, making my swing better. It's not nearly so bad if all you are doing is playing and riding a cart, never trying to change your golf swing. But that's not how I experience golf. For me it's like 5 range sessions for every round? It's just how I like doing it, I don't like ingraining my bad move by playing a lot of rounds. And keep in mind, this is a luxury for me. I've played non-stop for three straight years, working on my swing. It's definitely trickier grinding the range in these conditions. And I needed a mental break from it too. My dad for example, he plays thru the hot summer conditions, but he never gets lessons, never works on his game. It's just rounds for him, usually at sunrise. He never gets better. I've decided to take a different path than him in this game. The months away are good for me to do something else because disciplined practice, really thinking about what I'm doing, and trying to change things can be mentally tiring.

      Geez!!! You were born in 1983.  I was born in 1946, live in SE Texas where we have had 105+ head index all summer and I have played at least 3 days a week all summer long.  I have played all over Florida both summer and winter.  The breezes there seem to be much better than the still heat we have.
