Simply fantastic I would be estatic if I ever achieved the level of success you did, especially that quick.

now if I told you, it wouldn't be a secret now would it

it was a culmination of several things really, not one specific thing. Yes, putting was key, but for me, a lot of it was mental. BTW, how can you be a 5.2 index if your lowest round is 82... do you play off the back tees at PGA West Stadium Course?

Cheers, Allan

It's been about 20 years for me so far (Off and on - more off than on actually but the last 2 years I've been more focused dropping from 18.0 to 9.5) and after leaving a putt on the last hole yesterday 3 inches short, it'll be just one more week until I reach singles - hopefully. I shot a +7 79 to come into 9.504, had the putt dropped I'd have been 9.4 and playing off 9 next week. (Incidentally that's what I consider single figures, playing off 9. Not a 9.5 like I am which means I'm still off 10)

I have been playing golf for 12 years. Most of that has been on and off again. I really only started playing golf seriously about 6 years ago, so I will say that it took me roughly 6 years to get down to single digits. The last 3 years I have been focusing on my short game and I have noticed that this is what lead to my shaving off a couple of digits a year.

Sounds more like a 9 hole handicap.

If you put in a few consective forty-ish nine hole rounds, they'll be grouped together as good 18s. He said 82 was his lowest 18 hole round, but the software may think otherwise. So 5.2 could be for 18, but I think you're onto something. Either way, he sounds like a truly gifted individual.

On another note, it took me 7 years to get to an 8.4 index. Then I plateaued, then I took "a break" for a while, then it took me until this season to get back there. BTW, if I continue to putt like I did yesterday, pretty soon I'll be a 26.3.

Indeed. I'm going through the same issue from playing slow pitch softball as well :P

why would you want to get rid of that move? that's exactly how you should be hitting your driver. it's just like trying to hit a ball in the dirt and put a line drive over second.

Sean, think I chuckle every time I read one of your posts. Love it!!

Not saying that exactly, but with my only golfing experience since HS being the short par 3 course I played at last week, needless to say the driver's not something I've hit for years still. ;) I'll get to that eventually...

I played for around 8 months back in New Zealand when I was 17, then stopped until last September ( 6 years!!! ) . Recently got into single digits, so adding it all up. It has taken me 10 months of actual playing time. ( Calgary weather restricts golf to 5-6 months MAX )

I am pretty happy with it, seeing as I only get to play max twice a week, usually once. But I spend atleast 3 hours a week at the range.

The season is about the same here. In 08 I stopped playing from November to April 09 and from November to April 10. To speak the truth, I have only really played on the course for 10 or so months.

Makes no sense... 82 is lowest and you're a 5.7 handicap? I think you may have the wrong understanding of what your handicap is...?

Consider me impressed by the fact that you've been golfing for 2 months and you've already dropped down to low-mid 80's. Took me a while to do that...

Took me about a 8 months. I was playing in tournaments about a year and a half ago, and I couldn't break 100 in any of them. I'd go out on my home course and shoot like 82 and I was getting really frustrated. Went to one of the golf pro's down there and he worked with me for a bit, and I got down to shooting in the high 70's consistently. Played some tournaments shooting those scores. He got me down to around a 6 handicap, and I've self-taught myself down to almost a scratch. Lots of practice got me to where I am now.

    • Day 85 - 2026-03-17 30 minutes of putting work, 15 chipping. Getting reacquainted with the Scottsdale green and greenside terrain. Really freaking hot here.
    • Day 9 (17 Mar 26) - Worked with alignment today to work on getting properly lined up with target point using alignment rods.  Worked on getting takeaway parallel to alignment line.  Solid session.
    • Day 212 3-17 Flow work and arching. Hit some foam balls. Recorded
    • Im struggling to hit a 3 wood any distance. Im 67 now and used to use a 3 wood all the time. My swing speed with the 3 woods is between 80-84. I am only 5'5" tall. I currently have 4- 3 woods in my used club selection. I have an old Titliest 910FD, a Taylormade Sim2, a PXG gen 4 and a Ping G430. None of these can i hit more than 180 yards and often much shorter. My driver which is a Ping G430 I hit about 210-225. Heres the crazy thing, I carry a Taylormade Sim2- 7 wood that I hit 175-185. I carry an older titliest H1 Hybrid 23* that i hit 165-175. All yardages are with carry. When i hit both the Hybrid and the 7 wood they feel like very solid strikes yet I never feel like i hit any of these 3 woods solid. All of these clubs have regular shafts of different manufacturers. I would like to be able to hit a 3 wood 200 yards. Im thinking I need to start playing with shafts, Maybe even shorten them some. I have equipment to pull shafts and set swingweights and reglue. I have a bunch of reg flex old driver shafts that i could shorten. My driver, 7 wood and Hybrid are all D3 Swingweight. The 3 woods are D3 as well.  Where would you start? Thanks Rod
    • This was a great read from start to finish. Ive been watching the LAB putters for 3 or 4 years now. Ive never been a good putter and Ive worked at putting but i just dont seem to get better at it. I play at least 3 times a week with a 11.6 Hdcp and i have owned probably 20+ putters over my last 10 years. Ive even tried the broomstick putters which at first I thought helped but as time went on i missed just as many putts. For me it comes down to nerves which i struggle to control when putting. I always feel like i have someone leaning over me watching my every move when i putt. I had a friend I play with this fall go get fitted for a LAB and he came back all excited, he bought one and he was already a player that probably averages 32 putts a round. So i think I would say hes a good putter. I used his putter a few times and the feeling i get compared to my putter which right now is a Ping Vault 2.0 Piper and just before that an Evnroll ER5v and before that Spyder Ghost........anyway the feeling I notice was that i can take the putter back without it twisting some. At least thats the feeling i get. I dont know if i would be a better putter with a LAB putter but after this year i will know as I went and was fitted and have one on the way. I can only hope it makes a differnce. If not ive got plenty of putters to fall back on!  Rod
