Went to the range this morning to figure out why I've been chunking a lot of my wedge shots. During the process I realized that in all my years of golfing that I always have focused my eyes just behind the ball during my swing, not sure why? So I tried focusing on the "ball" during my swing and it made a ton of difference, at least during this range session.

Question is: Where do you focus your eyes during your swing?

It's not as bizarre as it sounds. Look up The Golfing Machine and aim(ing) point.

i actually don't focus on the ball at all. my eyes are looking at the ball but i'm not thinking about hitting the ball. when i'm thinking about finishing at my target and the rest is really a blur i hit my best shots. thing is, once you get down to a lowish handicap, you know how to hit a good shot with each club in your bag, and generally you pull it off. so your fundamentals are pretty sound, the only thing is whether or not you are swinging with good rhythm, keeping balanced, etc. so i try not to think about any of that at all, not even hitting the ball. just finishing with my right shoulder pointed at my target.

At first i focused on the ball, and my results very. Now i am working on getting used to looking at the spot in front of the ball. When i focus, i can usually see a small puff of dirt fly up right at that spot in front of the ball.

I focus on my balance and tempo. I don't see the ball when I swing. but I remember hitting a large bucket of ball well looking at the back of the ball.

While hitting - nothing.

I think I focus on the backside of the ball (side the clubface impacts) during the swing, but I've never really put thought into where I should look. Now I'm off to find resources/advice on that.

I want to hit the ground in front of the ball and only have the ball be in the way.

That was the mentality I adopted for chipping that really helped me. I aim for where the ball touches the ground, so the clubhead has to hit the ball first.

I think what he means is that he's sort of "in the zone" to the point where he doesn't see the ball. He's looking at it obviously, but just not "seeing" it. It's really quite hard to explain unless you've been there.

Kind of like what's her name hitting a putt while a train roars by at 80 MPH and not even hearing the train.

I don't really focus on the ball that much....just kind of see the whole picture down there if it that makes sense. For me, when I laser like focused on the ball I would have contact issues. Seeing the big picture makes it easier for me to let the ball get in the way of the swing and keeps me from having a resurgence of a issue I had when I first started playing of trying to smack the dang thing. works for me anyway. good luck.
