How do you think Tiger will be treated at the British Open?

The British tabloids will have a field day. The galleries will be respectful, and many will be curious to see how a player so dominant a few years ago can be struggling so badly today. Obviously, they will be comparing his scoring, putting, and shots to how he did when he won there in 2000. If some of the Euros do well, then they will attract the largest galleries. If a Euro can win our Open for the first time since 1970, they will expect some of their lads to give it a go.

It depends if he is in contention or not. If he is mid pack, the press will probably be pretty abrasive because they wont have anything else to talk about.
THE WEAPONS CACHE..

Titleist 909 D2 9.5 Degree Driver| Titleist 906f4 13.5 degree 3-Wood | Titleist 909 17 & 21 degree hybrid | Titleist AP2 irons
Titleist Vokey Wedges - 52 & 58 | Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2 Putter | ProV1 Ball

it all matters how he plays thursday...

If he plays well it sets up for a good week where all they will talk about is his game.

If his game is off the reports wont have a lot to talk about so they will try and blame his struggles on his marital affairs.

IMHO he comes out and shoots under par on thursday leading to his first victory of 2010

Tiger is Tiger!! I think the fans will be supportive but the press, not so much.

There is currently a gagging order on the UK press so they are not able to publish stories relating to his 'extra curricular' activities. For this reason they are being very careful about the stories that they do publish. They will be kind to him as he is not a British sports star!

Another reason I'm glad we broke from mother England, freedom of speech is priceless, censorship sucks

Are you serious? Is gagging order a legal injunction forbidding the press from reporting things that are TRUE? I know that British libel laws have it backwards, but can the press really be restrained in this way as well in the UK?

the tabloids are terrible in england though.

You don't have that kind of a problem in the U.S (well I doubt you have it as bad)

Apparently he played well in his practice round yesterday (he also used a Method putter). If he plays well he will be well received. If he plays poorly he will not.

don't bundle the irish in with the british!

What could be wrong with that. In Northern Ireland they got on like peas in a pod.

I originally thought he would be accepted well. But now that I see he is paired with Justin Rose, I think it will be rough. He is practically a hometown boy, and he won recently.

Well regardless of who is winning, I am sure the spotlight will be on him no matter what, just like it always is. It kills me to see someone win and then have them go interview Tiger first. Tiger is a great golfer but he is not the only one out there.

No I meant the British Open as it was written, by the way there is a Canadian Open, etc. To me it would be the Open if I were British maybe. I still call the US open the US Open. Because the British call the British Open the "Open" doesn't mean that I should have to.

    • Day 133: did a stack session.
    • You can pre-order an R50 here for pretty rapid shipping (these are back-ordered almost everywhere): https://www.playbetter.com/products/garmin-approach-r50-golf-launch-monitor-simulator?ghref=2301%3A700794. This is an affiliate purchase, and I'm willing to kick back lifetime ad-free Supporter membership here on TST or a 90-minute GEARS session for the cost of a regular member lesson (about 1/3 the cost). Also, I'll record a video myself soon when I get an R50.

    • Day 209 (27 Nov 24) - Easy session with the LW - short pitches replicating greens side up and downs. Finished up with the 7i and hard foam balls - making 1/2 to 3/4 swings with deliberately slowed tempo…from varied lies.
    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
