A question on which push or pull carts would be good for a man that is getting a little older and no longer wants to carry his clubs for 18 holes, but still wants to walk the course. Any suggestions on what to look for? Thanks!!!

I bought a Clicgear 2 at Dick's last week for $159. It is awesome and collapses to a small size that easily fits in the trunk of my Saturn. I like how quickly it expands and folds up too.

3 things:

1.)Take your bag with you to the store and put it on the cart. 2.)Test folding/unfolding in the store. 3.) Push over pull any day.

I really love my BagBoy Automatic ! It's built well, rolls nice and folds up simply and compact. I also like the fact that the tires are solid and there is no worry about a flat (I had issues with my last cart).

I choose to walk except when forced to ride in best ball tourneys. It is a great way to stay in shape!!

Last year I bought a push cart because the pull carts you rent at courses where bothering my wrist and shoulder. I felt using a pull cart placed too much constant strain on my wrist and shoulder and it was an unnatural position for them. Since using a push cart for 2 seasons I have had no issues with discomfort.

I looked at the clicgear and sun mountain carts and chose the sun mountain due to ease of pushing. The sun mountain seemed lighter to me, had less bulky wheels which allow it to move through the rough easier and folded and unfolded very quickly. Do a comparison search on the net for more detailed information and also try pushing the some models around and fold and unfold them to find your personal preference.

What are you doing in the rough?

I bought the Linksman X7 push cart a couple of seasons ago, and it has been great. Priced more reasonably than the other brand name carts, and with pretty much the same feature set. Got it new for <$100 via eBay auction (through the company's portal store).

I have ~15 rounds on it this year, and it works like a champ.

+1 I recently bought a Clicgear 2.0 at D-sports at that price point as well. It's a great cart, I've used it enough to know I'd buy it again.

clicgear is the only cart I would buy. I've used both Sun Mountain and Bag Boy carts, but the clicgear still wins my vote every time! I really don't think you can beat it.

I went the cheaper route and got the BagBoy M-330 Pull Cart. I didn't want to spend a lot, but didn't want a piece of junk either. The 330 is a nice cart for the money, and has the features I wanted. I would recommend it if you didn't want to spend a lot of money.

I picked up a pull cart 2 years ago from Play it Again sports for $30. It's really light and plastic, clearly it was pretty cheap when it was new. But it's held up really well despite being used often and in and out of the trunk, and it's not hard to pull.

I have owned the Clicgear 2.0 for two years, great cart. My club uses Sun Mountains. IMHO, the only advantage that Suns have is the mesh baskets, which are useful to hold a towel, sweater, etc. Clicgear seems much more solid, built to last a long long time.

    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
