I was excited to play in my first Stableford competition until I read this...

July 29, 2010 - Stableford Tournament at Paradise Valley

* Regular and senior division (55+)
* 9:00 tee time start
* Price includes green fee, cart, lunch and great prizes including a 3 day 2 night vacation package for two!
* Stableford format. Net score. Note: If you do not have a handicap, please include your average score on registration form.
* Stableford scoring: Par =0 pts., Birdie = 2 pts., Eagle = 5 pts., Bogey = lose 1 pt., Double bogey or more = lose 2 pts.

WTF? How about "You must have a established verifiable handicap to enter?"

I see no point in entering this tournament. Am I being too sensitive here?

Average score will be lower than Handicap but competition is good fun in itself. If you get beaten by someone who specifies an average score, so what. Would be unlucky to miss out on a prize but doing well is what counts.

Way I look at it, if they allow a player to pick his own handicap, then it's not a competition, it's a sandbagger convention. Any honest golfer who thinks he has a chance in such a tournament is delusional. The only way it could come close to being fair is if they require that a player shoot within a certain number of his professed handicap. Anything lower than say 5 strokes below and he gets adjusted. I wouldn't touch this one.

I've never seen someone's average score lower than their handicap.

Guys, I've removed three posts already from people who are acting as if kpaulhus is disagreeing. HE IS AGREEING, hence his use of the word "This" and then an example thereof.

If someone says "this" in reference to a post, that means basically "I agree." Update: No need to talk about it - let's just get back to the topic, please.
