Tom watson what a man

His farewell pose was about an inch away from being premature.

I'm sorry, but this golf course is a joke.

I can't believe the level of disrespect some here are heaping on St. Andrew. I'd kill to play there, sunny, windy, rainy, whatever, It is the birthplace of golf and fighting the elements is sometimes part of the game. Sounds to me like some here are too used to watching the pros play on the homogonized, generic courses that seem to litter the tour.

A 46 on the back nine will do that to your standing. Doubled 10 and 11, tripled 13, then took a snowman on the Road hole. Birdied 18, if that's any consolation.

I thought it was a tad long. No disrespect to Tom, but it was a little much for me. The beginning when he put his hands in the air was great, but then he went on for what seemed like a few more minutes. They did have to finish before darkness, after all.

I'm just wondering who out there is going to scrap together a 69 or 70 in this weather and be in good position for tomorrow.

Out of those who have played in the worst of the weather, Darren Clarke has been having a fantastic round. Currently 2 under after 15.

Jimenez was outstanding as well - 67, as the wind was picking up. Currently T6. Poulter and Daly both ahd rounds that deserved better scores. They really played the conditions well, tee to green. But I must say - I have never seen Woods play better in the wind. His 3 British Opens have all come in good conditions; whenever the breeze has picked up it has seemed that he simply couldn't cope with it. But his round today was something else - 73, through the worst of the weather. I am seriously impressed.

True. But if you did, you'd hardly ever get 18 holes in, especially where you live ...

Correct!

The course was closed for three weeks in February because of snow - 2nd year in succession that happened. But frost, rain and wind? Just wrap up warm and get out there, ya girly!

Anyone under par after 36 holes needs to go into tomorrow's round under the mindset that the final pairing doesn't exist. Calcavecchia isn't in the shape to play four rounds of exacting golf; he's in the same spot now as he was last year, and he shot a 77 in the third round then. Oosthiuzen has never been on this stage before, and he's likely to fall well back as Calc struggles with him. Additionally, the wind has been much worse later in the day during the first two rounds, and the later groups will get the worst of it if that trend continues. 2-, 3-under is a great place to be right now.

You know, I sort of enjoyed watching him struggle today. No, not because I'm rooting against him. I actually like the kid and want him to be in contention. But, on some level, it was a vicarious experience for me.

It's pretty obvious he had never played that course in those kind of conditions before. It was definitely a learning experience for him. Or for his sake, it had better be. He has a lot of talent and someday could be a consistent contender in major championships, and seeing him struggle like that in his first tough round at St. Andrews could be a pretty interesting reference point if we see him dominate there someday in the future. All in all, I really enjoyed watching the tournament today. Sure, I felt bad for the guys in that rough wind, but it's a part of the tournament and you can truly see who the mentally tough golfers are. This afternoon really separated the men from the boys, and Tiger showed that, while still not the guy he has been over the years yet, he still has a lot left that can keep him in contention at a major right now. I honestly thought it was absurd for him to stand there and put both arms up and then pause to soak in the adulation for what seemed like an eternity. I think a tip of the cap would have been sufficient, maybe waiving to the fans in all directions or something like that.
