I used to do the same thing. It's sort of counter-intuitive: you'd think that if a person was playing by themselves, they'd be playing as slow as possible, right? But I find that I want to play the first hole as fast as possible, so that if a twosome or threesome end up teeing off behind me, I get clear of them and (if wanted) I can hit multiple tee shots or approach shots or chip shots on the next hole. Then I find myself rushing if I see a marshal or somebody around so that I can get back to a spot on the course where nobody is at. Then you end up catching up to a foursome who lets you play through...then I rush to try and get out of the fairway for them to tee off as a courtesy for them allowing me to play through. They always say "take your time," but I am rarely able to do that.

What you described here is exactly how I felt when I played that round alone. I caught a twosome on #10 and was never happeir.....

I like to go out here late in the evening on my own and just play/practice until it gets too dark to follow the ball flight. Have yet to come across another golfer, just occasional pensioners walking their dogs or kids fishing balls out of the hazards. It's like having your own private course!

Stretch.

He Guys

I am deff going to start doing this more often, Just realized boss is out today and nothing to do in afternoon. Sneaking out for a quick 9 today!

My question to you guys is do you think if I go to the Range once a week and hit 60-120 balls, play 9 by myself once a week, and probably play 1x a week with friends. If that would be enough golf to see marked improvement. Or is that a crazy amount of golf to play haha.

I do it once in a while but I don't actually "play" a round. I usually hit a few balls of each tee if nobody is behind me. I'd much rather play in a group, playing alone is boring to me.

I play most of my golf solo, as well. I play most of my golf after work, and it can be tough to get through 18 before dark with somebody else playing with me. I can play 18 on most courses in 3 hours or less if im by myself.

I play alone sometimes when I all of a sudden find I have some extra time and I don't feel like I can find somebody to play with on the spur of the moment. It's OK. Gives me some time to work on my game. I usually play some extra shots when I hit one bad just so I can figure out what I did wrong. It's a much better way to work on my game than going to the range. I hate going to the range anymore unless I just can't hit anything solid.

After I got out of school, the apartment complex I was living at had a 18-hole par 4 course. The fees were built into my rent so I could basically play whenever I wanted. I worked at a local BWW so my hours were crazy. I play a lot by myself before I had to go into work. It was nice and relaxing.

I would say that I go out by myself on a consistent basis. There is a course maybe 5 minutes from me so if I'm home bored, I'll go to the course. I have been paired with a few people a few times and I've caught up to groups and ended up playing with them. Believe it or not, I actually like to walk the course. I only use a cart if I'm with other people, but if I'm alone...I'm walking.

Now that's extremely odd for a teenager.

None of my friends really play golf. In fact only one other person in my entire graduating class played on the golf team, and very few others play golf at all. But I guess the main reason is that in my town (a rich town, though my family is by no means wealthy) if you play golf you belong to the country club. I am not a member there. So it's either friends of mine pay to go to other courses when they could play the country club for free, or I pay $70 to play the country club. It just doesn't work out.

played Solo today. Teed off the first hole with a 3some and a 2some in front of me. I played through the 2some on the tee of the 5th hole and played the last half of the 5th with the 3some and then moved through them. Caught another 2some on the 7th tee and joined them for the final 3 holes of my first 9. They were cool guys, both much older than me and coaches at the local university. They stopped at the clubhouse at the turn and I went on ahead to the next tee...a 4some waved me through there and I got waved through by another 4some on the 12th tee. Caught up to another group on the 16th but since no one was really behind me anymore, I didn't push them and just waited til they finished the hole and teed off on the next one. But..when I hit my drive on the 17th, I had the worst "uh oh" pain in my stomach...tried to hit my second shot and had a REAL BIG "uh oh" pain in my stomach..so I drove straight to the clubhouse and got to my car as quickly as possible...shew, crisis averted!

Think thats the first time I've ever played through that many groups in a round.

My philosophy on golf "We're not doing rocket science, here."

Until recently I golfed almost exclusively by myself. I actually didn't know anyone who golfed until recetnly I found out a coworker of mine is actually a single handicap. Now he kicks me around the course.

I didn't even realize jamo was a teen. By his posts I assumed mid-twenties or older.

Really? Not a lot of teens golf. .

Not the case in North Carolina!!!

In fact, during the week the courses are filled with Middle School and High Schoolers practicing and playing. On the weekends at the nicer Clubs their are more than enought over-pampered teenagers running around with high dollar clubs and clothes. Often on Saturday the ranges have more pre-20's than they do over 30's.

Most of the $70 and over Clubs around here are now $46 since the recession. Seriously.

Memberships at the some of the Private & Semi-private clubs dropped from $14,000 to $600. Times have changed. I just call it re-adjustment.

It also depends on the time of day you play.

Retirees play in the morning while the un-retired are working.

    • Day 3: about 20 minutes of putting on the practice green. Focused on putts within 10 feet.
    • I don't have enough details to know what to tell you, man. If they were walking across, to play devil's advocate, maybe just wait another 10 seconds next time.
    • Day 11: Putts with a metronome and worked on some feels for greenside shots.
    • I realize the frame cuts off my tail but wanted to specifically see my hand path and club shaft and head travel from A5 to A7 with the grip and posture work I have been doing . This might be the shallowest I have managed to get the club head to enter into impact. I like the finish much more as well.
    • Context:  I used to play golf very regularly (and when I'm playing regularly, I'm on TST regularly).  In summer 2022, I got my handicap down to a personal-best 11.9.  Unfortunately, in the three years since then, I've had far less time to play, and didn't really make the time to practice.  I've played a bit more the past few months, and I anticipate having a lot more time to practice starting in about two months, at which point I'm hoping to go back to my old practice habits (practicing daily, Evolvr lessons, spending more time on TST (come to think of it, I can do that important last part now)).   But it was thinking about how different my nines have been a few times in the past month or so that made me wonder if there was a thread here about it, and sure enough, there was.  In the past month or so, I've had a 38-46 and a 45-39.
