Yesterday I teed up at 7:20am & it was already 82 degrees. The temp was up to 94 as we walked off the green at 18 at approximately 11:30am. Later in the day the temps got up to 103. The course is has moderate hills. I walked & used my clic-gear cart. My playing partners said it was too hot to walk & they had electric carts.

My question is....How HOT is too HOT for you to walk?

Well hello fellow Hoodbridger. I played up in Potomac on Saturday, tee time was 1127, so it was 103 from the start. It was rough to say the least. But, having spent a couple years in the middle east, it would have to be pretty hot for me to consider playing out of the question. I just avoid any beet on the course, and bring a ton of gatorade with me.

It's always really hot in Kansas City so I've kind of just got used to it, but I play in the morning whenever possible.

I can't remember it ever being too hot

in Los Angeles for me to walk. However, when I go to Palm Springs in August, I use a cart. However, I think part of the difference in CA vs VA is the humidity.

True...it is very humid on the east coast. I use to live in Tampa, FL & the heat/humidity was almost unbearable int the summer months.

I spent 4 month in Iraq during the summer of 2003 where it was 125-135 during the day & 100 at night....so I know the feeling of extreme heat.

A lot of your decision has to do with humidity. That's what will drain the energy out of you. At least with humidity, you can tell if you're getting tired.

If normal humidity then I'll usually walk if I'm playing a course with plenty of shade. If no shade, I'll get a cart once it crosses the high 90's/low 100's.

If high humidity (like we've had in the NE for the past month or so), then I'll ride once it hits 95 regardless of the course I'm playing.

Once it gets up to 98, I'm done. Down here in Naples, the 100% humidity kills. During counties last year on the High School Golf Team, the temp was a record 99º with 100% humidity. Suffice to say, I shot a 92 haha. Everyone was drained by the second hole. It was horrible.

This past weekend in the north east was pretty brutal. Both days had heat indexes approaching 110. I played mornings both days, and it was 90 degrees already 9am. I walk 99% of the time, but i bit the bullet and rode in a cart. If i have a heat limit, i think i found it last weekend.

I've walked in 100 degree weather before here in Sacramento. I'd prefer to ride, but I can definitely do that hot. Above 105 may be too much for me. The good thing about most California weather is that there is very little humidity, and sometimes a breeze can make it very bearable.

Played down here in Dallas on Saturday and it was about 100*. I ended up drinking about a gallon of water, and while in the cart I kept an ice towel around my neck. We teed off at 1:00 and played behind a slow foursome. Ended up with a 5 1/2 hour round.

In boston with the humidity always very high. Anything 90* in the sun is brutal to hot to play without provisions abundant like cold water, sunblock, shaded cart

Sorry - let me add a quick public service announcement.

The need for sunblock has nothing to do with how hot it is. Use it whenever you plan on being in the sun for an extended period of time, regardless of the season or temperature.

The thing about a cart if it is really hot it makes it easier to carry enough water. I can handle anything under 100 as long as I get enough water, and I am middle aged. Part of it is courses don't offer as much water as they used to, since they can sell bottled these days.

thank god for the Pacific Northwest. 90 degree + is a rarity here. Summers months are usually hovering somewhere in the 80's and Seattles had jsut about the best weather I've seen in years for the past month. Perfect golf weather. 75-80 degrees, partly cloudy, slight summer breeze in the afternoon.

I've golfed in 100+ weather before and my shirt was soaked.

I dont find it to bad out, the worst would be on a golf course with limited trees. I am a huge fan of putting trees near tee boxes so you have shade. A few holes were i play the tee boxes are like sauna's especially the ones that sit in a bit of a valley with no wind, there is not hope there.

But, i played in 95° before, its not to bad, walking

I can take heat alot better than cold. Compared to winter, I'll play in this heat, no problemo.

Steve

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.
