My game is always changing. A Month ago I had some decent driving going on, hooks and worm burning and maybe 2 hazards every 14 drives were the worst I see a round. The best I have ever had was 14 drives avg of 245 with one or two going 100 yards but safe. My drives dont slice but will hook a little. The best balls will go to 350 --stinger type drives on fairways, any solid drive will always go 275 or more. In the past 2 weeks, drives have been totally unreliable, topspin ducks, tops and then maybe 8 decent drives, but the bad will add 6 to 12 strokes per round easy.

Recent new club is a Nike Sumo 6 iron xstiff shaft. All my irons are wetnoodle shaft walmart brand. My wedges are good from 150 and in.(no help needed there)

The new 6iron is a huge success. Today i played a par 5 and topped to the front of ladies tee. Had a decent lie in the rough and hit a huge power draw with the 6 down the fairway to the 150. I judge the ball to have gone 220 to 250 but no way less than 220. The ladies par 5 was 475...yea the math is screwy, I havent google earthed the yardage yet, but no way it went 300. Made par.

The next 3 par 4's I tee'd off with the 6 and hit drives of 200 to 230 all fairway.(shot even par)only played nine tonight. Shot a 44.

If I had played the 6iron the entire 9 holes I would have shot a 40 or 41 since the 4 xtra strokes came from poor driver shots. I rarely 3 putt. I chip decent. I land greens usually from 140 in.

Off the tee on par 4's and 5's:
Should I just put the driver away? Or play the 6iron?

I cant hit a 3 wood and cant seem to hit a low lofted club well.
I deloft and have serious power, im 36.

If I drove 250-270 straight every long hole, I would be a single digit HC. Naturally 200 to 230 on some holes with my 6 iron will put me at a disadvantage.

off to google to see this 6iron shot

Here's my advice: if you wanna lie like this, go to a fishing forum. Yeah, your good drives go 350 but your bad ones are tops. Ha (x 10000).

Cut the crap. And nobody's going to give you a serious answer because they know you're full of crap.

The best advice you'll get:
1) learn to make a swing with your driver that reliably hits the ball in the air
2) stop fibbin'.

"The expert golfer has maximum time to make minimal compensations. The poorer player has minimal time to make maximum compensations." - And no, I'm not Mac. Please do not PM me about it. I just think he is a crazy MFer and we could all use a little more crazy sometimes.

And if you're not fibbing, then why wouldn't you use the 6 iron? If you can really hit the 6 iron that far, you shouldn't be at a disadvantage. Anything but the hardest of par 4's would only be 6 iron-6 iron according to your numbers.

I'd be pretty close to scratch if I didn't have to swing more than a 6 iron all day.

S.N., can you explain how it is that you're hitting the 6i a good 30-40yds longer then the longer guys on Tour? A big 6i is 190yds by all accounts, I'd say a "standard" 6i for the majority of humans is 170ish. I think Mickelson and a few others, at full freakiness, can hit a 6i around 200yds.

Please don't use the "deloft" argument, the pros are the best in the world at holding lag and delofting the club.

So, you can see why many guys will want to call BS on your statements, plain and simple. I could maybe buy 205-210, but what you're claiming doesn't really seem feasible.

What exactly was the purpose of this thread? To ask about your driver problem, or to gloat on how far you claim to hit a 6 iron? It sounds like you are in love with distance, at the expense of your golf score, else you wouldn't even bring up the question. If you can't hit your driver, either work it out or take it out of your bag (shame to give up those 350 yarders, though).

Harmonious, the course I played last night was tight in thick woods. The 6 iron was used more or less for the majority of the latter holes off the tee and it worked. It brought me to ponder the question of working out the kinks of the driver or just rely on the 6iron.

If I rely on the 6 off the tee, I think I will be shooting close to 82. Maybe even break 80, but I doubt it. My driver accounts for at least 10 extra strokes a round. Yea 350 was/is the longest Ive hit, its a one out of 50 drive for me. I played friday night and with driver hit the following: 220 worm burner 150 snap hook 50 yard top 200 yard hook 50 yard come back off a tree(tried to cut a dog leg) 270 downhill into another fairway 300 down the middle 100 yard worm burn 310 yard left fairway 150 snap hook 270 yard fairway uphill(skied it kinda) Then i quit due to light. The potential is there,if you had a round of drives like this.but could swap the uncertainty out for a 200 yard tee shot everytime what would you choose? I repeat my 6 iron is your 3 iron, my hands are way out in front of the ball. Until you witness a player that hits that much deloft, I guess its hard to picture I am unable to use a 5 iron, 4 iron, or a fairway wood. My 7wood is all I carry and I worm burn. So maybe the 6 iron is really your 1 iron. FYI im over 6-3 and weigh 225 lbs, with a wingspan of 6-4" it isnt very hard to hit a ball far for me. It is however, hard to hit it with consistency. Bottom line, put your doubts aside and ask whether to take the high reward? or see how well I can play with 200 yards off the tee.

I google earthed it and came back from the 240 it was posted above...fairways dry, its drawing left so the spin is running down etc....

well Im not hitting it that far every time, maybe one out of 50?

Learn to swing properly. Don't deloft 5 clubs worth, and don't overswing so one drive is an uncontrollable 300 yd bomb and the other is a 50 yd top. Find a good tempo that allows you to hit the ball consistently every time and go from there.

Waiting for summer...

I still wonder why its even a question - the minute a club regularly gets you into more trouble than it gets you out of, it's time to put it back in your bag.

200 yards with an 80% chance of having an acceptable outcome vs. 350 yards with a 10% chance of an acceptable outcome shouldn't even be a debate. Probability adjusted you're looking at 160 yards guaranteed vs. 35.

I think Devo has it right. You don't have a good swing but you can swing hard and fast. I play regularly with a guy who swings wild. Hits a 3i 200 to 260 yds but has to aim so far right that when he pures a shot it's 2 fairways over. Can't hit a driver or any wood in the FW to save his life. So he tees off with the 3i and then works on getting to the green from wherever the ball lands. He absolutely refuses to work on developing a good swing and has no chance of breaking 105. But he's happy so we leave him alone.

The point to all this is if you're happy then go for it. If not, you're in need of some personal instruction the forum guys can't help, much.

It ain't bragging if you can do it.
