Is it possible that Tiger's poor play is an effort to run the ship into the ground, lose sponsors and decrease his net worth so that he doesn't give up more dough to his soon to be ex-wife? Showing how is image is hurt and he is not worth as much?

I worked in a office with a guy that did that, wanted me to falsify documents for him and lie about the portion of business that was mine coming into the office. He lost a ton of business and the office was barely making it. He had a bunch of cash that would never hit the banks and owned a ton of expensive guns as well that suddenly disappeared. I am somewhat surprised she didn't "disappear".

Opinions?

I don't see it. Florida is a community property state and she already gets half of the marital assets. The only way Tiger's earning potential would come into play might be with regard to alimony, which I doubt any court would award her given (1) her share of the divorce settlement and (2) the fact that she had a fairly promising career prior to marrying Tiger which she can probably resume without much difficulty.

Quite ridiculous.

She was a nanny. Hardly a promising career.

I think it's just a mental problem that he's chasing with physical fixes. He needs to stop being a prima-donna and play every (or nearly every) week. His short game looks like a bogey golfer's and he's missing three footers by six inches. If he doesn't play week in and week out, this isn't going to get better.

My idea? A psychiatrist has prescribed him drugs that have him numbed. He looked mentally and physically numb last week.

You'd look that way too if you just shot the worst round of your life and realized "wow I haven't hit rockbottom yet?" I'd be numb in his shoes, because how else could you deal with everything?

This may sound all well and good, but you don't know how much time he needs for legal issues such as the divorce and custody battles, as well as whatever else is going on.

I think this is a real possibility. This or pain killers. He was taking prescription drugs to heighten his sex with porn stars. He's had the operations and the neck pain.

My guess is he's struggling with an addiction to pain killers that he probably hasn't got the will to confront yet, what with all the other BS in his life right now. Also, coming off HGH probably leaves you feeling a little vulnerable, too. Do you believe him when he says he has never taken a PED?

Check your facts. She was a model prior to becoming a nanny for Jesper Parnevik.

Wow, and I thought my opening paragraph for this thread was loopy.

Wow, I haven't put much thought in Tiger's poor play, other than it must really be hard for him. But these statements certainly seem like a logical explanation.

And probably need to check your reality a bit.

As bwdial pointed out, the fact was that her job before marrying TW was as a nanny, and she wasn't modeling anymore. The modeling was a very part time thing along with working as a supermarket checkout girl and salesgirl in a clothing store before working for Parnevik. If the modeling was so lucrative and working out so well, why give all that up to work as a nanny? And now that she's ten years past her short modeling experience, what is the reality that is a career she could pick up again? Not many modeling opportunities for 30+ year old mommies.

Since it so much fun speculating, I'll add that I give the painkiller aspect some credence here, and I'm speaking from some experience. Following a spinal cord injury last fall with back surgery in December (and another in two weeks) I've been unfortunately relying on Percocets to get through the day-to-day pain. In general I'm fully functional with the pills but sometimes feel just slightly "off"; I've gone to the practice range a few times and found my timing just wasn't there. Although my full swings were OK, I really noticed it on the shots that need touch like pitching, chipping and putting. I thought that the lingering problems from surgery would impact my full swing more and I'd be able to work the short game, but it has been the opposite. And I also have a bit of a "give up" feeling when dealing with problems on my job or around the house. I just feel mentally less sharp, but in my job I can kind of veg for 15 minutes and get it back on track - I don't think one could do this playing on Tour for a living.

Watching Tiger in person at the US Open, my wife and I both noticed some quirkly strokes in his putting and that his chipping rythmn didn't look as smooth as it used to. Although he whined about the greens at Pebble, we observed that his practice strokes looked different from hitting the ball. Who know if the drugs are part of a cause, but his short game struggles looked similar to the ones I'm feeling. In the world of professional athletics, the difference between the best in the world and just the other athletes is often miniscule. And from my experience with painkillers, I can certainly understand those negating that difference.

    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
