haha, that's a pretty clever analogy

I'd fancy Rory's chances against Tiger too.

A great shot is when you go for it and pull it off. A smart shot is when you don't have the guts to try it. ~ Phil Mickelson.

Nothing wrong with his opinion. Rory has the confidence to play anyone, TW has struggled all year and could be primed for a loss but you never know. I am looking forward to watching the Ryder Cup this year as always.

No, there's nothing wrong with his opinion. But it will undoubtedly fire Tiger up just that little bit more. He's already shown a bit of improvement and there's plenty enough time for him to get grooved before the Ryder Cup.

If Tiger gets turned around, this quote won't be the sole reason why. But there was more to lose than gain by saying it.

I think that has yet to be determined. Woods has been very beatable this year, he isn't a real "team" player, doesn't or at least hasn't considered the Ryder Cup to be really important, (which it isn't when you are chasing majors), and doesn't have a very good Ryder Cup record on top of that. Personally I'd like nothing more than to see the Euro's beat him, especially Rory, but as the post started out, "that has yet to be determined".

I think it was pretty clever of him to say it. People will now compare the two and maybe even call it a rivalry, not bad for a guy who at this point is nothing but hype.

From an old ESPN Article:

Talking trash to Tiger Woods is nothing new. But it rarely pays dividends. Some examples: "I'm respectful of his game and his persona. But we're just two human beings trying to put a little ball in the hole." -- Sergio Garcia after shooting 67 in third round at 2002 U.S. Open at Bethpage. The next day, Woods shot 72 to win. Garcia shot 74 and finished fourth. "Anything can happen. Especially where he's hitting the ball." -- Stephen Ames said it with a smile prior to 2006 Accenture Match Play Championship first-round meeting. Woods won every hole on the front nine and took a 9-and-8 victory. "Tiger who?" -- Lettering on the back of a cap worn by Vijay Singh's caddie Paul Tesori during a 2000 Presidents Cup match, the day after Singh and Retief Goosen had beaten Woods and Notah Begay III. Woods defeated Singh 2 and 1 in a match marked by an absence of conceded putts. "The funny thing is, after watching him play last Sunday, I think he's more beatable than ever. I think there's a few fortuitous occasions out there that really changed the round for him at Wachovia. And realizing that gives me even more confidence to go in and play with him on Sunday again." -- Rory Sabbatini less than a week after Woods shot 69 to win at Wachovia Championship while Sabbatini shot 74. Paired with Woods again at the Bridgestone Invitational, Woods shot 65 to win; Sabbatini shot 74 to finish tied for second.

Wrong thing to say - the last thing guys on tour should be doing is giving Tiger motivation.

I bet by the time it comes around the media will have hyped the crap out of it--to the point most of us will just want it to be over.

I really don't know who the biggest prostitutes are, the media or politicians. I do know that when you are compared to politicians you are not very highly thought of.

I'd have to hear the quote in context but saying this at a low point in someone's golf game isn't very impressive ...

I was thinking the same thing.

But I guess the reporter said something along the lines of "How would you feel if you were paired against tiger" hopefully this will get tiger playing better again.

Generally, this is very good for the Ryder Cup. Especially now, that Tiger is more vulnerable than ever. He needs something or someone to fire him up. Can't wait to watch it.

If tiger was back to his best Id still fancy rory to be honest, better swing, hits it further, better iron player, however tiger is better around and on the greens, rory would wipe the floor with him at the moment

    • That’s totally fair. I have my chipping issues which make my putter more playable in that situation. Really just confirming that while not optimal there comes a point where if you need to use a putter (for whatever reason) then the optimal mechanics breaks down. I know I’m a sample of one. 😂
    • Day 329 - 2025-08-26 Hit 24 balls before lessons and JEP Summer Session. With the MP-33. 🙂 Put an undersized grip on my VR Pro accidentally.
    • Well, that's not really a putt at that point. You could easily choose to putt that up the slope with a hybrid or something.
    • Day 15 (August 26).  I missed practice yesterday, but otherwise had a 14-day streak going into it.  Somehow, some of my posts for this appear in my profile but I can't seem to see them (I hope I didn't break any rules that would cause them to be removed).  I am hoping I'll be able to keep doing some practice while I'm out to regain the red text.  Context:  am on vacation, this week with friends.  What was today's actual practice? Today, a friend and I decided to go to TopGolf;  it was kind of like being at the range with someone else's clubs.  And that's ultimately how I was able to use it for practice:  I don't practice choosing a target, lining up to it, and then hitting often enough;  that's what this place seems to be about.  In any case, we were there for 90 minutes, I was hitting for maybe 35-40 minutes of that time, and I did pick a target each time.
    • Day 2 - (26 Aug 25) - Church men’s golf nine hole Captains choice.  Had grandson as part of our group - was a blast watching him drill the putts.  Love these no pressure sessions - great for going outside the norm on club selection.
