It's okay for you to be in love with the Nike and all, but read my post carefully and you'd know that I didn't bash you. I'm just here to talk equipment.

What is wrong with you? I don't like Nike. I really don't appreciate their buisness practices, but all major companies are pretty much the same, and I'm not about to get hung up on a name. I got the Nikes because they were cheap, and they

fit me . Tiger plays clubs that fit him . Starting to see a pattern? Bottom line, the difference is forged vs cast. The Japanese are obsessed with forging metal. That's really what it boils down to, as well as the other points about how golf in Japan is so expensive. Only 30% of the entire nation's land is useful for building on. It's a small, but very tightly packed nation with a powerhouse economy, despite being about 1/3rd the size of the U.S.'s, is still the second largest on earth.

Technically Japan was passed by China the other day and now sits as the 3rd largest economy.

It seems most of the american public are weekend golfers and love huge cast irons, although there definitly is a market for the forged ones here. Dont know why they dont offer them here?

The Callaway Diablo Forged is identical to the Legacy Forged iron they released in Japan a year ago (garish paint job excepted). If those are selling, and the Ping Ansers sell when they reach America, then other companies probably will follow suit.

All the good stuff? I googled around a bit today and there just as much fugly looking junk in Japan as we get, just more of it is forged. Gimme a vintage forged blade over that gaudy glitzy stuff any day.

PS. And get off my lawn!!

The Japanese just know how to put the right finishing touches on their clubs, be they forged or not. When you look at a Japanese club, it commands your attention, rather than it screams out for someone to notice.

Some of that Tour Stage stuff is pretty GD ugly, that's what I know. Not USA ugly (Cleveland CG7 Tours I'm talking to you!) but still ugly.

I think the CG7 Tours look worlds better than the Diablos and Diablo Forged, but to each his own. I guess if cavity backs were never invented we wouldn't be in this mess...

Yeah, that's true - some people almost have an embarassing accident whent they see shiny Nike irons, but when I see that pointless waffle print on the back all I can think of is having breakfast while wearing thermal long underwear (a Canadian thing).

The Japanese only dominate the forged market because Jack Hamm has focused all of his attention on drivers and putters that look like tack hammers.

They've targeted the market, but can't make the move until Jack learns how to properly yell "Banzaaaaaaaai!" for the Japanese-language infomercial, which will feature him smashing a ball over Mt. Fuji using the new Honorable Forged Hammer.

In addition, Japanese whisky is clearly tastier.

To illustrate:

Riding the local success of the VG3 driver, Titleist will introduce "Japan only" VG3 irons : http://www.golfdigest.co.jp/magazine...002058401.html
(sorry, Japanese only)
Thick topline, but "forged". Lofts stronger than the AP1 (VG3 5i = 24º / AP1 = 25º)
Clearly aimed at the rich retired salaryman (retail apparently will be 113,400 yen for 5~P set). Hits the shelves in end of September.
Looks fugly if you ask me… But it says "forged" on the club so people will by them.

    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
