Hi guys
my divot wit S, P, 9, 8, is straight and aiming like 10 degrees right. Ball is a push that will either hit the right side of the green or be off the green to the right (no slice, just push). I try and bring my arms through faster, thinking I might block out, but can't get a consistent fix. Any advice?

Hi guys

Check your alignment (both your stance and your clubface). Check your grip.

Divots shouldnt be aiming straight, for a right hander they should be aiming slightly left, are you left handed?

thats a new one on me. when a divot is aimed left for a righty doesnt that usually point to being slightly over the top and cutting the ball..? whenever i try and cut a shot i am looking for my divot to be pointing right of the target (lefty golfer)

That's 10 times better than your divot aiming left! You are obviously coming into the ball from the inside slot which ain't all that bad. that's what I am actually trying to do. you may be aligned right, that's worth checking, but if I were you;I'd just close the face a tad at address,& the ball should draw slightly from the right side of the green to the middle. should't take much.

Ball position? Do you play it too far back?

Have you seen the tee box at a professional event? all aim slightly left because after the ball it hit the club is beginning to turn over as it hits the turf, causing a divot aiming slightly left

The club turning over does not have much or perhaps anything to do with that.

The Golf Swing should be a circle around your body, there aren't any straight lines in a curve, so if you're right handed it's probably going to be a few degrees left. It shouldn't be drastically left, but a touch

I was struggling with the divots point left myself lol... Thinking I was coming outside in, yet the ball flew straight, finally clued into why they should point slightly left of target :)...

On the divots topic, may I steer this into a thickness discussion? Ive been throwing footlong and half inch thick divots off my vokey wedges (though they do have a somewhat sharper leading edge) losing clubhead speed to the point where I can't finish in a complete finish position...

I'm hitting too steep into the ball the shorter the iron I think, I've also been told I dip my head down on the downswing... Any tips on widening the swing arc, naturally I think extend the arms on the backswing, is that a good cue for widening the arc or is there a better way?

Thanks!

Divot thickness is a completely different topic, worthy of it's own thread.

Yeah the divots should be aiming left

yes i have, i also believe that pros work the ball on a vast majority of shots because they can. which to me explains the divots going left or right.

i believe divots should aim at the target on a straight shot. considering the blade should be square through the hitting area and the club would ideally be online. when the divots are pointing in either direction i think it speaks to the path of the club. whenever i hit a cut shot my divots are going right (cuz im lefty at golf); which to me makes sense. But i know people are going to disagree. Regardless of what the 'correct' answer is. the point is to get the ball in the hole.. Bubba watsons divots are all over the place because he never hits a straight ball.. the divot discrepancy is almost a non issue.

no.....no it shouldnt

yes, yes they should? I don't understand, Iacas chime in here if you could. If I play with a inside out swing path *which I do* how could my divots not point to the right? Mine actually point way right, maybe to far but I play a pretty big push draw a lot of the time.

When I started golf I would swing over the top and my divots pointed to the left and I would slice/fade the ball and pushing or push drawing the ball was impossible for me.

Divot Pointing Right

==> If your clubface is square to the divot you’ll produce a straight push.

==> If your clubface is open to the divot you’ll produce a shot going to the right and then fading/slicing.

==> If your clubface is closed to the divot you’ll produce a shot starting to the right and then drawing/hooking.

Divot Pointing Straight

==> If your clubface is square to the divot you’ll produce a straight shot.

==> If your clubface is open to the divot you’ll produce a shot going straight to the right.

==> If your clubface is closed to the divot you’ll produce a shot going straight to the left.

Divot Pointing Left

==> If your clubface is square to the divot you’ll produce a straight pull.

==> If your clubface is open to the divot you’ll produce a shot starting left and then fading/slicing.

==> If your clubface is closed to the divot you’ll produce a shot starting to the left and then drawing/hooking.

I agree with this V

Maybe. It'll start where the clubface is pointing, which could be anywhere from right of the target to left of the target.

Divot Pointing Straight

The last two are wrong. Open = push fade, closed = pull-draw for a divot pointing straight at the target.

Divot Pointing Left

Depends on how open. Like the closed one in the first example it could start left or right. But it will fade since it's open relative to the path, just as the first one above will draw because it's closed to the path..

[QUOTE=Williamevanl;518581]==> If your clubface is closed to the divot you’ll produce a shot starting to the left and then drawing/hooking. Sure. Ball flight laws, people. Look, a divot pointing slightly right is indicative of a path going to the right. But since the swing is on an arc you can contact a ball while the club is traveling in to out (to the right for a righty) and the club can exit the ground while it's traveling back in (to the left) enough that the overall divot looks like it's pointing left, yet when the ball was struck, it will have draw spin.
