Yea, I don't want to mess up my $150 sneakers on the golf range, matts, or practice greens. And i hate tracking the dirt from the range back into my car. But then again my golf sneakers look like i can go and do 100yd sprints in them, so they are as comfortable and light as my sneakers.

I used to only wear tennis shoes on the mats. I go to the range a lot straight from work, and one day I didn't have my tennis shoes. Tried hitting balls in my dress shoes and lost my balance on almost every shot. That was the last time I had something on at the range other than my spikes! Grass, mats, whatever, the golf shoes go on.

Yes. My golf spikes have mush more rigid soles than my sneakers, and my sneakers and golf shoes are different heights.

The only reason I wear golf shoes on mats (e.g. indoor golf, during lessons, when warming up before a round somewhere) is the height difference. If I'm wearing shoes with the same sole thickness as golf shoes I keep them on. I picked up a cheaper pair of FJs (Green Joys) just for the range but I wear them for the occasional round. Good shoe for the money.

I'll wear golf shoes if hitting of grass, but they're not necessary off mats. Sometimes I hit off mats with my shoes off.

I used to hit off mats with bare feet (something I saw Faldo do in the early 90s) occasionally in an effort to cure "over-active feet". It worked.

Thanks, that sounds like a great deal, i see those are water resistant as well, most of the less expensive shoes are not.

I can't say how many seasons they'll last (maybe 2) but I played in the rain with them and my feet were still dry. End threadjack/

Yes, I always wear spikes to the range when I practice.

Why else would you go to the range?

Just ordered a pair of the brown/black/white footjoys(10 med), 15 pinnacle gold balls and 100 2 3/4" tees for just over $50. Was afraid to wait too long on the shoes since they're a closeout item and might not last long. They'll be a big improvement over what he has, his old shoes are worn out.

I usually wear my golf shoes to the range. They feel different than my tennies and the soles are probably an inch thinner. It may or may not make a difference, but I'm just going for the "practice like you play" thing. I see a lot of guys wearing tennies at the range, so there's obviously no one right answer.

I never wear my golf shoes to the range. And I always found it a bit perplexing why guys would wear their full golf kit to the range. After reading this thread, I see there is method to their madness. I might start wearing my shoes from now on.

Mats in general tennis shoes. Grass always golf shoes.

Never slipped on mats. In fact you can almost argue tennis shoes on mats have a similar feel as golf spike on grass. Grass/turf gives some. Mats with spikes doesn't.
