Around the forums i've been reading about how terrible top flight balls are. Some references to them as rocks and such. Just wondering whats wrong with them or anything else anyone wants to add.

Very durable ball. You can't hurt them, but in turn they don't have much feel. I played them years ago when I started playing. I've heard the new Gamers are pretty good, so play what you like! Usually you can get a dozen for $15 or so, so you're not out much if you don't like them.

The newer Top-Flites are actually pretty decent. Granted, they wont spin like a tour ball but they are as good as any other ball in the $20 a dozen range.

They are the world standard for cheap, durable, distance balls. They earned the reputation Rock Flite years ago, and are just starting to finally shed it with some new and innovative products.

I agree with this post. I have some old Top Flight balls laying around and have compared them to the new Top Flight. Granted this is a ball that is $15-20/ dozen instead of $35-50. You usually get what you pay for. I don't mind the the newer Top Flight balls, but I will not play the older balls.

It's "Top Flite".

There are a lot of haters who haven't hit a Top Flite recently - in any form. Are they all poser douchebags? No. Just misinformed.

Coincidently, its usually the poser 25+ handicappers who only play ProV1's and talk about how Top Flites feel like rocks and they can't stand them because it lacks spin control.

I barely notice any difference at all between balls since I'm not at that level yet where I'm worried about spin control..so I'll use just about any ball.

I really like the D2 Feel for fall/winter play. I get plenty of distance, greens are soft so no problem with spin and I picked up four boxes (15 balls each) for under $40 last fall. For well under a dollar per ball, I play these until it's time to break out the TM Reds. I had the "Rock Flight" bias until trying these a couple of years ago.

I found a D2 Feel and put it in my bag and played it as a provisional once. It played nicely until I lost it.

D2 Feel is the absolute best ball you can buy for $1/ball, and the Gamer is probably the best ball available for $20/dozen.

Not sure where your from but if you play on hard greens you would want to play a softer ball for sure since it will be very hard for you to stay on the green if you land on it with a harder ball.

D2 Feel is definitely a very good ball to be playing for $1/ball. I also like Precept Laddie X if you are on a budget.

I notice they go dead pretty fast too.
If I find a top flight I always test it by bouncing it on my wedge. Around half of the ones I find have something wrong with them.

There's nothing wrong with a good top flite, but a bad one flies a bit shorter and feels terrible off the clubface.

Buffalo, soft greens at most courses.

I'm with ya-I played the last year and a half in and around Buffalo, and high spin balls weren't needed 85% of the time. I might break out some TP Blacks if/when things were occasionally dried up, but the soft greens and fairways around led me to normally use the D2 Feel and Straight, AD333, Gamer, NXT, NXT Tour, HX Hot/Bite, E7, Maxfli VT3, etc.

My father in law shot a 74 with a topflite a couple of seasons back. Par 72 course, back tees.

Every ball is a good one with a good swing. & i've proven that i can sink a prov1 as fast as a TF but for a fraction of the price. Neither float especially well.
