I just wrapped up my first week of school at the Golf Academy of America in San Diego. So far it's everything I'd hoped it would be. My classes range from: golf history, mechanics of the short game, Monday tournament play, rules of golf, computer apps, motivation and positive thinking, and business of golf.

The facilities are pretty nice, with large indoor putting/chipping green, four hitting bays with video and K1 analysis software with vest, TOMI putting analysis, and Trackman.

I'll post some pics later and give an update as we get to tour some of the local golf manufacturers in the area and any other good stuff.

Hit 'em straight!

Whoever came up with the saying, "A bad day of golf is better than a good day at work", is a moron.

I also was looking into this program. 31k a year for the 2 year program right?

also, how demanding is the work load? and what are the hours?

is it possible to work AND be in school at the same time?

I am going to PGCC in Temecula, CA in January. I looked into the school you are attending but didn't like it as much. I go to class from 8 to noonish and then play golf as late as I want. Unlimited range and green fees are included with tuition. As well as instruction and tournaments.

The classes are all right up my alley. 1365 hours, 16 months. 240 total tournament hours. I believe 8 championship courses and you can play them every single day! 250 dollars off apartment housing through the school. beautiful place too. I am very excited. Glad to see someone else is enjoying there golf career school so far!

Seems a bit steep. 62k total??? PGCC is 35k for 2 years (including the housing).

Wow, jealous of you guys. As a 34 year old guy who is married with kids, and a full time job, this is not an option for me. Enjoy the freedom and take advantage of it!

Wow, that's alot of money

Seems a pretty ridiculous price if you ask me. University isn't even that expensive.

Most universities can get up to that price if you include housing and everything. These guys are also getting free greens fees, personal instruction, etc the list goes on. I would expect them to be somewhat pricey

Ditto.....plus I work at a golf course and all but one of the many golf pros I know are starving to death. It seems like all golf and fun until you can't pay the bills. In fact a good friend of mine who is a Class A PGA Pro gave it up because he just couldn't make ends meet. Its sad really.

    • We had a member of our senior club who developed a mental block on pulling the trigger. I played with him to see what the membership was talking about. I timed him a few times when he would get over the ball. 45 seconds. He knew he had a mental block and would chide himself, “Just hit it!” Once on the green he was okay and chipping was a bit better. It was painful to watch him struggle. Our “bandaid” was to put him in the last tournament  tee time with two understanding players. We should have suggested to him to take a break from our tournaments. I agree with the idea that when a player realizes they have a problem, the answer is to go fix it and not return until they are able to play at an acceptable pace.
