Ok folks, here is your chance to share some tour highlights that might not have been picked up by the cameras.

I went to the 3rd round of the U.S. Open up in Chicago a handful of years back, and I remember Freddy Couples hooking his drive into some weeds. Well, it wasn't until he got there that he realized it was O.B. So he heads back to the tee, fuming mad, and some fan yells "Go get em Freddy" and he yells back "F*ck You!"

LMAO

My cousin told me he was following Tiger at some event in Florida probably in the early 2000's, and there was a par 3 that he narrowly missed birdie on, tapped in for par, and he had to walk on a path in a heavily wooded area that not many people could walk on at once, but my cousin had the opportunity to be in the area and said Tiger pulled out his drive from the bag, and slammed it super hard on the cart path making sparks shoot everywhere. lmao.

Anyways, explain some tour anger you have personally witnessed that the cameras might not have picked up on.

a couple years back, can't remember the tournament. but i'll never forget what happened. craig stadler's caddie apparently forgot to pack his lunch; so craig, foaming at the mouth, picks up a small child nearby and eats it whole.

Couch laugh!

My first job was a Sea World, and they used to keep Craig Stadler in special pen with high walls, so guests couldn't see him touching himself...

Hubert Green, the defending champ at the Greater Hartford Open ......it was the 2nd round in 1982. Some big jackass was making fun of Hubert's putting stance after he had putted out on hole 7 and kept zinging Hubert as he was walking to hole 8. Hubert finallly turned around and climbed under the ropes and went right up to this (huge) guy and offered to beat his ass right in front of everyone in the gallery. I was standing about 6 feet away from the confrontation, and Hubert looked to be about 1/2 the size of the jerk.

Saw a couple instances at the US Open this year. On Sunday saw Garcia hit a so-so sand shot on, IIRC, 15. Apparently it wasn't up to his standards because he vented pretty harshly. I don't recall exactly, but I think he pounded the sand or ground with the club and then threw it down. The main thing I remember was thinking it was a bizarre tantrum to throw after what wasn't a blown shot, he was on the green just not as close as he thought he should be.

On Saturday at the 18th, someone hit into the bunker along the sea wall just up at the very end of it. Tried and failed to get out, then hit again, and 3-putted or something. He was fuming, throwing his club around, etc, and after he holed out decided to throw the ball into the ocean. Apparently the ocean didn't want it, because it came up short, bounced off the rock lining the sea wall and landed in the bunker again. What a day---the poor guy couldn't put the ball in the OCEAN, let alone the cup... wish I remember who it was (or the details a bit better) because it was hilarious.

I worked for 4 years at the International at Castle Pines before the tournament was canceled by the PGA Tour. The notable one I remember is Aaron Baddeley throwing a tantrum on the 14th tee and ripping huge chunks out of the tee box with his driver (I didn't see this one, but got it over the radio from one of the other volunteers). Then after his 2nd on the par 5 17th was bunkered, he snapped his 4I over his knee. The second incident happened 20 feet from me.

Several years ago when the Greater Milwaukee Open was still here (and I managed to win free tickets from a grocery store :D), I wasn't really following anyone but happened to watch Stadler (yes, another Stadler outburst) try to hit out of the rough with a tree nearby... After a failed attempt to get the ball into a good position, he slammed the club against the tree. :P

At the 2008 US Open, I saw Vijay walking down a fairway. As he passed by a little girl (maybe 4 years old) she yelled and waved "Vijay! Vijay! That's Vijay!" He hears her and looks over, then walks to the edge of the fairway right up to her and hands her a golf ball and pats her on the head with a big smile.

Oh wait, wrong thread...

Stadler is one of the few who knew how to let out his anger. He was always liked by the players and fans regardless.

I was that child, and let me tell you - it wasn't a nice experience. I was stuck in there for three days and you won't believe the crap I had to fight through to get out. It isn't kind to laugh at others' misfortunes.

Many years ago when the Phoenix Open was played at the Phoenix CC I saw Don January wrap a 9 iron around a tree after hitting a poor shot out of the rough. He then proceeded to use some non-family language that might even cause Tiger to blush.

    • Day 27 (7 Dec 25) - Got in a few swings with 9i and hard foam balls in backyard.  Setup weight fwd (rebuilt left foot really lets me feel the weight in a slightly painful way) - kept the backswing to around 9 o’clock focusing on contact and resulting divot pattern.  Like how the hard foam balls come off the face (almost like real balls in sound).  A good abbreviated session as I only able to hit about a dozen balls in the fading light.
    • Day 117 12-7 A bit of chipping practice today. Full swing- hit some real balls to see where Im at.
    • Not the part I was replying to: Handicaps did not go down much (like 0.14 on average IIRC?) when we went from 10/20*0.96 to 8/20. And a good chunk of that was from the +s.
    • I think he meant in the UK. The old system was completely different from the new one. 10/20 x 0.96 vs 8/20 would really only impact very low handicaps I think. The 0.96 serves to increase differentials for plus differentials, where 8/20 vs 10/20 works to lower differentials for all. I don't know many plus golfers who would be upset that their index got lower. A lot of really good players don't even really keep their handicaps up-to-date. They're much more interested in their WAGR rankings which get them entries to certain events.
    • Day 433 - 2025-12-07 Got some work in after Junior Elite before a night of sports (and the return of my wife!). Backswing work. Similar to what a lot of my juniors are doing.
