I'm around a 15 (haven't gotten enough scores to post an official) and I've been playing golf since late may early june..

So everyone just say their current handicap and how long it took to get there.

Also, this website has been mainly the sole reason my handicap has improved!

I'm 33, and I've been an off and on player since 12. But I'm currently on a streak where I've played the most golf I've ever played in a 6 month span.

I still don't have an official one, although I should.

But really I didn't keep an accurate score until just this past year. And boy when I did, it was humbling but enlightening. I also cut my scores by nearly 15 strokes when I started playing honest john golf. And that took a couple weeks. It's amazing how much you improve when you actually realize how bad you are.

Golf course management is huge i've discovered.

My swing is my swing. It's not great but it's consistent. I know that I'm going to push most shots right, so I aim at left targets. I'm still improving and I can't wait to play tomorrow.

I started playing golf when I was 7 years old. I've played golf seriously for about 2 years now. Since I'm still young, I have the chance to play golf almost every day, and have the privilage of living on a golf course.

I've been playing golf for three years and play about 10 rounds per year (nowhere near enough!!!). It wasn't until this year that my handicap started to drop mostly because I now work at a driving range and get to practice for free! My swing has gotten MUCH better within the past few months but I haven't had a chance to go play golf recently to see how it has effected my game.

I would be very surprised if a person with this level of on-course experience could play to a handicap of 12,

but I am sure your abilty to practise for free has improved your game.

started playing when i was 13. i was a single handicap in three years. but in that three years i played at least 18 holes a day during the summer, went to youth clinics, and received instruction from some of the pro's from time to time pro bono. by the time i left college i was a + handicap. after school i lived in france for a spell so i put down my sticks for a while and didn't play for a few years. started again 3 years ago, trying to get back to scratch.

took roughly 3 years to get down to 2 handicap.

Well along with having a teaching pro as a friend I'd say I'm pretty far behind where my handicap should be

. There are few people who have gotten to be scratch golfers within the first year of playing. There was an African America pro that the golf channel had on playing lessons that said he was a scratch golfer after his first year of playing.

Yes, but given your limited experience on the golf course you wouldn't have any idea what your handicap would be. Four poor swings in a round plus a couple of 3 putts can add 10 shots to your score and make someone who thinks he plays off 12 unable to break 90. You say that you have played (on average) less than once a month for three years. Someone who plays twice a week plays 30 rounds in 4 and a half months. You may well be benefitting from your teaching pro friend, but handicaps are determined by scoring over 18 hole of golf, where everything counts, not ballstriking ability on the range.

You don't simply decide what you think your handicap should be.

I bought my first club 2 years ago (r7 draw) but only played month or so, went to the course and stopped scoring after 140 or so lol. I picked up my clubs again about late may this year, and got my x-24 month later. I usually shoot around high 90s to low 100s. Never took a single lesson, just learning on my own and getting tips from whomever willing to help out. I always ask them to tell me what Im doing wrong. We do have same club, i love mine how's yours?

Form the white tee haha, got swing speed of 85-95 mph ( Im only 5' 7" and 130 lbs) with my driver and the guy at the dicks said my swing speed is very usuall with my handicap. He told me as I lower my score, my swing speed will go up. Hopefully he's right, I only hit about 220- 240 with my driver lol. Also should I take a lesson? Is it too late or too early? Or just don't take it because Bubba never took one? What you guys think?

This summer I went to the course 3 times a week (Saturday and 36 holes on Sunday) and went to range 5 times a week. Also worked on my short game And putting at least 2 hrs a day. Jeez. I didn't even go to our VT football game ( we lost to Sub division team!) today, instead, I went to the green and practiced for 2 hrs in the rain. Talk about addiction lol

Been playing since I was 7...in high school (1996-1999) the best I got to was about a 1 or 2. Then in college got it to a +2 or +3 at one point...and I don't have an active handicap right now but I am willing to bet I am between 2 and 4.

You sound like me, golf is the only hobby of mine other than working out.. Yes usually people over swing initially but your swing speed doesnt seem slow or unrealistically fast, it might just stay the same all together. I love my x-24's though they are so nice. They are great, you like yours I suppose?

Gee, it took me all my freakin' life to get to my current handicap. Seriously, though, I was just a hacker for many years, played only a couple times a month, shooting mostly in the 80's, never consistent from one week to the next. Then discovered Dave Pelz. Changed my outlook on the short game. Dropped my handicap a couple of strokes every year as I got better at up and downs and putting. The last three years or so has seen much better ball striking as I've had time to practice and play much more, and with a group of better players. Learned how to save pars after bad shots, scruff it around when not having my "A" game, etc. so that I finally consider myself a semi-decent player. Always trying to learn more, though.
