They could make him pick out a new driver and putter from the proshop with about 30 limited flight range balls then 10 minutes on the practice green, which of course bears no resemblence to the 18 greens on the course.

I think pro player versus muni course would make for great TV but don't know how many PGA players you could sign up to do it. Would they be embarrassed if they didn't shoot an incredible score?

Don't know if they still do it or not but when I was casting for cash BassMaster magazine used to run a monthly article where they had a professional bass fisherman fish a lake or river that they had never been on before. Made for some incredibly interesting reading. People always wonder "what would a pro do, what lures would they use, what techniques, etc." I beleive they actually had a pro or two who went fishless for the days assignment.

Haha, there's "professional" fishermen? Like, I know about commercial fishing, and charter captains, but... Wow. How do you become a pro fisherman? Does it require courses in waking up early, drinking a 6 pack, ignoring your wife, hanging a corny sign in your house, wearing a felt hat, mastering a southern accent, and growing some type of facial hair? Don't even ask me about what it takes to be a pro bowler...

It takes lots and lots of bowling. Like so much that I'd get sick of it, and I like bowling. I can laugh at the fishing comment, but that's exactly how most non-golfers feel about golf. I blame Craig Stadler.

I love bowling, play pretty well, average like 130-150 or so.

Yeah, but to be a bowler, you also need to drink domestic beer, have a gut, wear a bad collared shirt, have a receding hairline with a comb-over, a 70s porn mustache, sweat profusely, wear large, 80s style glasses, and smoke or at least smell like cigarettes.

Pros vs. Munis is a great, great idea. I don't think you'll get a lot of buy in from any decent pros, though, because it'll ruin their putting and might cause some embarrassment. However, if you offered enough money you might get some fringe players or Champions tour players. You'd probably need players of Tiger/Phil notoriety to get decent ratings.

Well, if it's a Golf Channel show the ratings would never be that huge, and even watching journeyman pros or newcomers would make much better viewing than about 75% of what they broadcast.

There's a show called "Day on the Lake" which is exactly that, a pro fisherman tackling a new body of water - one of my favorites although haven't seen it in a while.

I agree that "pro's vs Muni's" would be great. I think it would even be cool if they prepped a little . .ie, freshly mown and greens as good as they can get them. Our muni hosts a big "County Open" every summer and they set up the golf course as hard as they can and prep it as nice as they can - that level of prep, I think, would not take away from the "Muni" aspect of it . . .I actually don't want to see Tiger put over weeds, lol. EDIT - oh wow, I just thought of the PERFECT Golf Channel Show . . . Have pga pros sign up for local tournaments at munis under fake names. The Open I mentioned above is open to anybody with a $100 entry fee and an official handicap. Tell me you wouldn't watch that?

I agree....sure they would be more than capable of dismantling most any course from the tees that us mere mortals play from but the percentages are still the same as far as putting goes.  They still have to get the ball inside of 5 feet to have better than a 50% chance to make  and that is still a tough task no matter what course you are playing on.  And they still have to make putts.  9 or 10 birdies on any course is tough to do day in and day out so there is absolutely no way in my opinion that an pro is routinely shooting in the 50's on any course.

Some people are way off here, tour standard greens would save even the most terrible putter at least 4 shots a round (if they could work the pace out).. And to put it bluntly, tiger woods would not be off +12 if he were to play am ranks, +7.. yes very much so, but +12?! that is a huge ask for anyone, in the UK anyway.

They wouldn't even play any of the really bad courses around here for any amount of money for the same reasons I don't play some of them (anymore). Totally unputtable greens and totally un-maintained.

The last time I made the mistake of going to one course close to my house the longest putt my wife or I made was less than a foot (and we are both good putters). Since nobody else was playing the lady said we could play another round for free...We never even considered taking her up on the offer.

To play some of those courses and shoot a good score they would have to leave the driver in the bag most of the time. Especially if they were playing the course without spotters. Any ball slightly in the un-mowed Bermuda rough has about an 80% chance of never being found until a month later when they finally decide to mow it. Any ball more off line than that has a 100% chance of belonging to the snakes forever.

So we have the best players in the world playing where they can't take advantage of their length and hitting into overgrown fairways with as much rock as dirt and grass, and hitting onto "greens" that nobody can putt on. Then to really make it more realistic we'll put a few carts full of drunks out there acting like total idiots.

Would they shoot a good score? Not a chance in Hell.
