How often do you use the 60 degree wedge?

I think this poll might get a bit skewed because the lower handicaps aren't going to find themselves in situations where they need to use this club as often as the higher handicaps. That said, I use mine quite frequently. It's my flop shot tool, my hop and stopper, and I use it from specific distances. I can hit it from up to 85 yards out with a full swing. I will usually hit it from specific distances such as 85-75 yds, 60 yds, 45 yds, and 30yds and in. I use my 56 from 100-90, 75, 50, the sand, and occasionally from the rough if my ball is sitting up in a fluffy lie. I would say in my round today I used it 13 or 14 times. I almost holed out a 30 yarder on the 2nd hole, a 220yd Par 3 which I missed pin high to the left. Hit the flag and it bounced out.

I use it depending on what type of shot I'm trying to hit around the green. I don't usually hit it from the fairways, but there's always the occasional exception when I want to hit that very high approach to a pin tucked just over a trap. It's a usefull club, but the 52 & 56 get a lot more work...

6+ would be normal for me I think. Probably depends on how many greens I miss. I use my 56º and 60º exclusively for shots around the green and they get split about 50/50. Plus I will use it for most shots inside of 70 yards or so.

Several years ago I jumped on the 60 band wagon, but it didn't last long. Wedges are the strengh of my game, but a few skulled shots and a couple 40 yard shots that only flew 20 was all it took for my to put it and never resort to it again.

I found that my minds eye doesn't see shots around the green that fly high, 95% of all of my pitches and chips are with a 52* wedge. In heavy rough I will use a 56*, but that is very seldom. My minds eye sees me tossing a ball underhand, so the 52* works best for me.

I voted "never" because I rarely leave myself in a position where I need all the loft. When I do, I'll use it. It's once every few rounds or, on an unfamiliar course, it might be three times in one round. Average is still less than one per round.

My 54 is my workhorse.

I use my 60* 4-6 times a round. I like it from both flop shots around the green and 70 yards and in approach shots.

I never knew less loft created more spin. This guy doesn't know that either.

it's my favorite club in my bag, i use it more than 6 times a round, usually to pitch over a bunker. it's my club of choice when getting out of a bunker as well.

last round i played i knocked it in the hole on the fly from about 30 yards out. no bounce, no roll, just up and... doink! i love that freaking club.

it is my 100 - 110 yard club........ I love to use it as my approaching club if I can.

I use my lob webge for every shot 90 yards in.. including all pitches,bump and runs, etc...

60°? I can hit a 58° straight up in the air. And I use it frequently. But rarely for full shots. It's my creative club.

Agreed. I frequently use my 56* for flop shots...the 60* is really reserved for those tricky creative shots that require to get some high air.

I NEVER use my 60* for full wedge shots...its just inconsistent for me. The ball jsut goes too high for me to get any consisten distance from it.

I would say I hit 85-90% of my shots inside 100 yards with it. I don't know how many shots a round that is...but it's a lot. I feel like a marxman with it. Practice it all the time. Love it love it love it. It's the instrument of my creativity.

I use mine a lot, in thick rough or everything from 110-50y out... Love the wedge shots..

i only carry a 57 and thats enough. 4 deg bounce i can lay it back and open it up if i have too

high floppys in Australian conditions are not ideal, high winds influencing the ball, greens like trampolenes. Bump and runs are often the go - get it on the ground asap.
hard old topsoils here too make it hard not to blade the wedge.

I think if i played in the US, with fluffy fairways and elevated greens i would carry a 60 deg.

Don't keep the stats but in an average round of golf I clearly hit the putter most often, the driver next, then comes the 60 degree wedge.

For all of you that have a hard time regulating the ball flight (height) - do you have a hard time with your other clubs as it relates to trajectory??!?!

I think it's easier to manipulate height and spin with my LW because it's the shortest club (besides the putter) in the bag. The cool thing about 60 degrees of loft is that you can hit a ball 20 yards that never gets higher than eye level and checks up really well. This is the reason that some folks don't like to chip with a high-lofted club because, for them, they don't want to rely on the spin. I don't agree with this most of the time, but in certain conditions I don't like to chip with my 60 degree either.

I think once you learn to hit the ball low with your high lofted clubs (everything underneath your 8 iron) golf gets a lot easier because you have so many more options into greens. It's not a fun shot to practice on the range...hitting a club 70% or whatever of the distance you normally would...but when you're trying to eliminate the influence of wind or lower the margin of error because of a hazard or your lie is odd or whatever...it's nice to be able to trap your 9/PW/SW/LW and watch it sit down fast. As long as you can strike an iron reasonably well without flipping the club before impact, and you don't play a 2-piece distance rock golf ball, I think anybody can do it.
