...a GPS/Rangefinder.

how cool would that be? you have the GPS when you want it, and in the same unit, a laser rangefinder.

Just be happy they don't make laser rangefinders with a subscription - sorry you didn't pay for this course, no distances for you today!

been down the GPS and laser road....the laser by far won this battle

I JUST LOVE paying for courses and a membership, when the satellite wont pick up the course im on, waiting for the GPS to load, buying the extra gear to attach it to my bag so i dont have to fish it out of a pocket or strap it to me belt

sorry.....i just think a GPS is far less superior to a laser any day of the week

I think it would be good to have a laser with a very simple GPS on it, like the Izzo Swami. I don't have anything, but I find myself most in need of a yardage when I'm way off the beaten path and don't have a flag to shoot at. Some sort of simple GPS would be good for that. That I would actually be tempted to buy.

How does buying gear for carrying the unit only apply to the GPS, and not the lazer?

The smallest la

s er rangefinders I've seen are larger than the smallest GPS. If I was playing a new course and somebody in the group had a GPS, I'd be asking them for info. Based on the numbers coming from the ones on power carts though, I'd double check the yardages with my rangefinder.

I actually would like a GPS with 3G connectivity or some kind of sat download capability. My SG2.5 is not a big deal when I can prepare in advance and download the courses but there are times I've decided to play on spur of the moment and not have the course available. Other than that, GPS has been nothing but fantastic for me, although I have been intrigued by the range finder due to threads on this site.

I have and use both. I find situations on almost every round where I need the advantages of one or the other.

If your handicap is accurate then I can understand some of your reasoning. You rarely need distances which are dead on. However, the laser is especially valuable for getting distances to things which are not included in the GPS programming. Particularly for layup shots, I've made myself a much better course manager by using the laser to help in laying up short of difficulties instead of laying up into them.

Most players tend to bite off too much, to cut the layup too fine, and often get into trouble as a result. I can now shoot a tree or bunker lip or any other feature and then select a club which I know can't possibly reach that hazard. That virtually guarantees me a better, more confident swing in those situations, and no matter what GPS you're using, I've yet to see one that does that job as well as a laser. And for deadly accurate numbers to the flagstick the laser is the only way to go. I use the GPS when I only need approximations, but for true distances I shoot with the laser.

My GPS app doesn't actually have any things that are included. It has a satellite map. You touch a spot on the map and it tells you the exact distance to that spot from where you're standing as well as the distance from that spot to the hole.
