Being an Aussie, I am basically neutral - just hoping for some good golf, but if you look at footage from previous Ryder Cups, the behaviour of some of the Americans is just so repulsive that you sort of want them to be beaten. I won't even start on the Barbie clone parade.

As I read in another condescending post: "Are you serious?"

Slow greens - fast greens, rain, sunshine - to hell with it! That was a thrilling day today! Good watch, never boring. Great golf and unsettling errors at times. Loved it every minute. :D

I think he'll be fine in Medinah in 2012 when the course is set up favorably for long hitters..

I thought Medina was a short course? Isn't that why they don't host Opens anymore?

Ole Ole Ole believe it or not is mainly sung by the Irish crowd,it has been a thing we do at international soccer matches for years.

I thought that was a Spanish thing, no? I mean, pretty much everyone now sings it in soccer but I thought it stated in Spain.

No Ryder Cup mentioned on the public broadcasters main news show and just one line on their web site. Autsch, bad, bad. Ryder Cup 2018 in Germany. Hmm.

Think I gotta change my avatar back to super mario soon.

Great days of golf, lots of "ifs" but coming down to the last group on last day makes great watching. Think the best team won just but both sides had their bad players and good players.

As for Medinah, I would not class 7657 yards off the regular Gold tees as short but rather bloody long, 2 par fives over 600 yards help push the yardage up though

Correct - it originated in Spain

years ago....but for some reason, folks think it started with the Ryder Cup 2006 in Ireland.

I hope to see whoever is the captain of the US totally hose the Euros on the course setup - and I'm talking egregious things like thick rough for the first 290 yards and then thin it out like Augusta after that. That way DJ and Watson can just flat bomb it.

There may have been.

I won't argue the point, though I got a different impression - I was on the course and didn't have access to the instant replays you saw so I can only go with what I was told at the time. I thought it was Furyk pointed it out - that was what Sky Sports were saying.

Anyway, there was no 'hiding' the ball by spectators - if it couldn't be found, for whatever reason, it would be declared lost and the appropriate penalty taken. The whole event had a great spirit and I, for one, would hate it if it had been marred by cheating - I don't think it was and I think what you report indicates there was none - it was relief he got so the ball MUST have been found.

True did anyone see rorys 3 wood to 18? I know it went in the bunker but the actually swing itself WOW it truly is poetry in motion

Uh, Johnny Miller or someone called it "a big flare way right." So not very good poetry.

I didn't say anything like that.

Does anyone have a link to any of the press conferences? Normally they post them on PGA.com, but they're not there or rydercup.com. ESPN.com had some immediate reaction interviews, but I can't find any video or audio links to the post event press conferences. Thanks!

When Overton was yelling and screaming after his holeout from the fairway on Monday, it was just flat embarrassing. I realize that the following is a very oldskool attitude that represents the opposite end of the sporting continuum, but still, does anyone else remember the vibe of the great Joe DiMaggio? No bullshit. No yelling and screaming and making a big racket. Just immortally sublime performance. And a legacy as very possibly the greatest centerfielder of all time (and a damn good amateur golfer).

I've seen this same thing mentioned a few times......

The ONLY differences between what Overton did and what the "Beloved" GMac, McIlroy, Molinari, and Poulter did was hole out while WATCHING it for an Eagle from the Fairway, the mics were trained on HIM and Bubba ALONE, he was NOT in a crazy crowd like the others when it happened on the greens. The "Beloved" ones listed above ALL screamed at the top of their lungs, but were drowned out by the din of the crowd for the most part. Tiger didn't even know his went in because he didn't see it, someone told him afterward. He may have been a lil over the top, but a Eagle from the FW, while watching it, in competition on rival soil, must be very very exciting....... I saw the Molinaris screaming like they did something big after a measley typical 5' putt, they would scream and pump their fists and whip the crowd into a frenzy, the golden boy Rory was screaming so loud I could hear him above the raucous crowd, then he went on a stampede on the green just about tearing GMacs arm off- at LEAST once. Same with GMac. Everyone is acting like he's a loser and the "Classy" Euros were perfect, get real I heard folks laughing and clapping on misses, and I saw a women on the back of 17 even imploring a ball of the Americans to roll off the back of the green.

I think Poulter probably goes bonkers the most of any I've seen. The double chicken wing thing after making a putt reminds of little scrawny rooster strutting around the yard thinking he's some kind of Fog Horn Leghorn Jr. He couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag is what makes it comical. When he gets a little older, we can call him Rod Stewart lite.

It is originally Spanish, but the Irish use it now most of the time.

I wonder how hard it would be on the 1st tee when the crowd are going "woah!!", "Woah!!!" "Woah!!!" when you take a practise swing. Why do you American's hate Poulter so much?

    • There's no such thing as the spirit of the rule. And, you do realize how insanely small the time window and the level of water is for water to come up with one person standing there but not another person, right? It's basically never going to actually happen like that. There are lots of rules like this: a 7' tall person's knee height drop is from higher up than a 4' tall junior's drop. Their driver is also longer, so they get a larger relief area. What are you gonna do? Beyond that, my reply to you is the same as @DaveP043's: write a better one. This one is easy to understand and enforce. The penalty for playing from a wrong place is two strokes, so no, it's not significant. In that sense, the potential advantage must be > 2 strokes. No, it's not "irrespective of it." That's why the penalty exists. If it's significant, it's a DQ, which is the ultimate penalty. See above. They don't need to judge that. No, he didn't. He could have taken one stroke to drop in the same place. This was already stated. Instead, he paid two. Of course they do.
    • Yes, a ball going faster will go farther… but it's nearly impossible for "all other parameters" to remain the same. "A ball going faster with the same of everything else will go farther" is pretty rudimentary stuff. The entire swing. The handle moves the whole time. The golf swing is a matter of both translational and rotational forces. And yet it's also kicked out a little, as it's not directly behind the motion of the hand path at that instant.
    • bought a used epic driver 3 years ago treated me well i am 72 bought with senior shaft a friend of bought a brand new  ping 440 claims he hits straighter and added 10 to 15 yards on his drive i know drivers are the most frequent club bought is a new driver that much better
    • It's true that it is not always clear where to draw the line of "significant". But I would argue that saving half a stroke or more is definitely more than significant. According to the common meaning of "significant", which is all we have because the word is not defined elsewhere in the rules.  This is irrespective of the two stroke penalty for playing from a wrong place. That penalty is only for when there was no significant advantage.  And it is possible to tell to some certainty whether a stroke or half a stroke was saved by such tools as strokes-gained, experience of officials, etc. Applying the conditions listed in the definition of serious breach.  In the example in which a player gave themselves free relief from a boundary object, if relief was necessary, then that wrong place gave a significant advantage.  Though apparently there is some sort of verbal tradition that tournament officials have a higher standard of what they consider "significant". Much higher than one stroke. And they like to take into account that the player already received a two-stroke penalty, though that is not in the rules for determining what is a "significant advantage".
