There may have been.

I won't argue the point, though I got a different impression - I was on the course and didn't have access to the instant replays you saw so I can only go with what I was told at the time. I thought it was Furyk pointed it out - that was what Sky Sports were saying.

Anyway, there was no 'hiding' the ball by spectators - if it couldn't be found, for whatever reason, it would be declared lost and the appropriate penalty taken. The whole event had a great spirit and I, for one, would hate it if it had been marred by cheating - I don't think it was and I think what you report indicates there was none - it was relief he got so the ball MUST have been found.

True did anyone see rorys 3 wood to 18? I know it went in the bunker but the actually swing itself WOW it truly is poetry in motion

Uh, Johnny Miller or someone called it "a big flare way right." So not very good poetry.

I didn't say anything like that.

Does anyone have a link to any of the press conferences? Normally they post them on PGA.com, but they're not there or rydercup.com. ESPN.com had some immediate reaction interviews, but I can't find any video or audio links to the post event press conferences. Thanks!

When Overton was yelling and screaming after his holeout from the fairway on Monday, it was just flat embarrassing. I realize that the following is a very oldskool attitude that represents the opposite end of the sporting continuum, but still, does anyone else remember the vibe of the great Joe DiMaggio? No bullshit. No yelling and screaming and making a big racket. Just immortally sublime performance. And a legacy as very possibly the greatest centerfielder of all time (and a damn good amateur golfer).

I've seen this same thing mentioned a few times......

The ONLY differences between what Overton did and what the "Beloved" GMac, McIlroy, Molinari, and Poulter did was hole out while WATCHING it for an Eagle from the Fairway, the mics were trained on HIM and Bubba ALONE, he was NOT in a crazy crowd like the others when it happened on the greens. The "Beloved" ones listed above ALL screamed at the top of their lungs, but were drowned out by the din of the crowd for the most part. Tiger didn't even know his went in because he didn't see it, someone told him afterward. He may have been a lil over the top, but a Eagle from the FW, while watching it, in competition on rival soil, must be very very exciting....... I saw the Molinaris screaming like they did something big after a measley typical 5' putt, they would scream and pump their fists and whip the crowd into a frenzy, the golden boy Rory was screaming so loud I could hear him above the raucous crowd, then he went on a stampede on the green just about tearing GMacs arm off- at LEAST once. Same with GMac. Everyone is acting like he's a loser and the "Classy" Euros were perfect, get real I heard folks laughing and clapping on misses, and I saw a women on the back of 17 even imploring a ball of the Americans to roll off the back of the green.

I think Poulter probably goes bonkers the most of any I've seen. The double chicken wing thing after making a putt reminds of little scrawny rooster strutting around the yard thinking he's some kind of Fog Horn Leghorn Jr. He couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag is what makes it comical. When he gets a little older, we can call him Rod Stewart lite.

I thought Medina was a short course? Isn't that why they don't host Opens anymore?

It is originally Spanish, but the Irish use it now most of the time.

I wonder how hard it would be on the 1st tee when the crowd are going "woah!!", "Woah!!!" "Woah!!!" when you take a practise swing. Why do you American's hate Poulter so much?

An excellent example of the use of CAPITALS instead of sensible arguments.

Anyone could see from his celebration that Overton was an American. Looked like he thought he was in combat and had just landed a grenade on an enemy placement. He is a good golfer, but I think he lacks something that the great players have.

What's that? Letters in his postal code? ;)

And really, if Overton was on the European team he wouldn't have done that? There were class-acts, douchebaggery, and over-the-top celebrations on both teams. I cringed at Overton's celebration (actually even more so at Watson's on the same shot), just like I got a annoyed by Poulter's, Rory's and Molinari's celebrations. It seems to me that the behavior is dictated much more by the individual personalities and who is at home rather than where they're from. If you're surrounded by tens of thousands of homeys you're just going to be a bit braver with the celebrations and get caught up in it all. In the end, it is all pretty understandable. Is there any event so emotionally charged as the Ryder cup? Look at how many of these guys can be brought to tears in interviews afterwards. Hell, I get pumped up in a local 4 man scramble when we birdie a par 4. I may even have said, "Boom baby!" before, but I'm not entirely sure about that. They usually don't televise our matches. thankfully :) BTW, can someone explain "mash potatoes" to me?

Not really. His celebration wasn't all that different from Poulter's. He clenched his fists and yelled. In the Tiger era that's kinda the stock golf celebration.

I had no problem with his celebration at all - in fact, I'm storing it in my mental locker to be whipped out on the course at the right moment!

Anyway - how can any European have an issue with it, given that we loved Ian Poulter's on-fire fist-pumping, Graeme McDwoell's fist-pumping, Rory's yells, etc, etc? I loved seeing all of them!

I don't have an issue with either sides celebrations, it's good to see a good deal of passion showed and that is what the Ryder cup is all about, as long as it does not effect the shot of their opponent (aka Brookline).

Well, he dresses like a douchebag on the tour.

I would say that Mr Poulter always looks sharp and smart on tour in his savile row, tailored clothing, puts many of the other US tour players who shop at walmart to shame

Poulter certainly dresses different than the average guy but i think he looks great. sometimes he looks a bit over the top and i prefer the clean athletic looks of Tiger and some of the guys wearing Adidas.

as for his personality, I prefer that over the emotionless robots that golfers sometimes get portrayed as. its not so much because its entertaining but they're human...its only natural to have emotions during an event. Wait til you get someone like Ron Artest in the PGA Tour. :) Brawl on the fairway?!

Coming from the guy who called Poulter a "poor ball striker" at a recent event, I think I'll choose to ignore his nonsense.

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
    • So, Brendan Sorsby, Texas Tech transfer QB, was found guilty of sports betting by the NCAA. He admitted to it. He placed thousands of bets over multiple years while at Indiana and Cincinnati. This included betting on his own teams.  The NCAA rules ban athletes from betting on any sport (college or pro).  A retired visiting judge from Tarrant County, Texas has put an injunction on the NCAA ruling. He is a visiting judge because the first judge was a graduate and big fan of Texas Tech, and he recused himself. The judged ruled the following... "Under Curry's order, Sorsby is permitted to play for Texas Tech's 2026 season on the condition that he continues his treatment for a gambling and anxiety disorder and serves a two-game suspension (missing games against Abilene Christian and Oregon State)."  Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly care for the NCAA. That still doesn't mean that a college can choose when or where to say, "Yea we agree to these rules for all our sports, well except in this case." Here is a breakdown from S&W. The Hidden Weapon in Sorsby’s Injunction: How a Lubbock County Court Order Quietly Neutralized the NCAA’s Most Powerful Enforcement Tool - Law Offices of Snell & Wilmer By Ryan J. Regula On June 8, 2026, Lubbock County District Court Judge Ken Curry issued a temporary injunction in Brendan Sorsby v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, Cause No. DC-2026-CV-0791 (99th Judicial District... The main judgement made sense. Sorsby, I am going to have all this harm done to me if I don't get to play. The Judge, I agree. The penalty for gambling is too harsh, so here are all these things you must do, and I will grant this injunction against the NCAA. Basically, an analogy would be when a person goes into court for a DUI and they agree to all these other things to not end up in jail.  What sucks for the NCAA is the NCAA has appealed to Texas’ Seventh Court of Appeals, based in Amarillo. All four justices that preside over the court are graduates of Texas Tech University School of Law. It would be hilarious if all four of them had to recuse themselves 🤣. For those who like to read legal rulings...
