Golfing in cold, wet, windy, soft conditions isn't very fun

Its all a matter of atittude--mind over matter; if you don't mind, it don't matter. Persoanlly I really like the bad weather for money games and tournaments cuz the conditions usually really bum most players out and subsequently they don't play well. Since I golf year round, live in the Northwest and fly fish for steelhead in the winter I've found ways of dealing with the bad weather. IMO, the most important things are to stay dry & warm. I also admit that bad weather isn't for everyone.

come out to the Hoh River this winter season and you'll find me with my spey rod. I usually hang my clubs up for a couple months and bring my spey rod out. :)

I know we are not noted for bad weather in AZ but unknown to most non-desert rats is we large mountains and pine forests at high altitude. With that come some bad weather at times. So I've been there and done that, but still think is it better than working for a living.

I sooo agree to all those lists. Amazes me how well tour pros can play in that kind of inclement weather conditions.

I've spent a lot of time in AZ, but it was at a time in my life where I wasn't playing golf...

I'd trade some of your bad weather for the 2/3 of the year where the weather is dry and flying far as hell at altitiude. I'd be cool to put it out over 300 yards comfortably. BTW folks - I shot 69 in soft, windy conditions today. It was no peach, but I shot -3 on the front and 'held serve' on the back. Yessuh.

At one point in June, I believe, I played back-to-back 18 hole rounds Saturday-Sunday in a constant rain. My golfaholism forced me to, but I think I've learned a lesson. Never, ever, ever, golf in the rain more than once a month. It's just not fun, and a waste of money. If you haven't gotten out in a few weeks, be my guest, but otherwise, stay away from the rain.

Wet courses, on the other hand, don't quite bother me as much. The only thing that annoys me is that the rough feels like hitting a ball through a pillow when it's wet, and that's a score-killer.

LOL, I said, "I like it when the weather is bad....", I didn't say "I hope for bad weather to make others play poorly". However the fact of the matter is that many ppl don't relate well to bad weather and learning how to play in bad weather can be a plus, which was my point.

I got to play for the first time in a month since getting back to school, and even though it was raining and windy, I loved it. Maybe because I had just got back from class and my friend just randomly asked me to play 9 and I've been dying to play for so long and it made me appreciate playing more. The course though was near empty so we got 9 in in under an hour and a half and I think I like putting on slow wet greens better than fast greens.

It wasn't that cold here today, but it was drizzly and capital W-indy -- I saw a spurwing goose attempt a graceful take-off, get caught by a gust and slammed sideways into a tree trunk. It looked embarrassed. On one Par 3, 170 yards to the flag, I hit a driver straight into the teeth of the wind and ended up about 30 feet above the hole. Gave the ball just enough of a tap to get it rolling down the hill and then watched with interest as it got slowly but relentlessly blown straight off the green. At that point, you just have to laugh.

Don't remind me. But I am moving to SoCal in January...so maybe remind me. haha. We've got about a week left. I've been pleasantly suprised at the lack of rain as of late though. I probably just jynxed it however.

Gotta admit, it's the most beautiful place in the world...during the months of July to September. Then it turns into the least beautiful place in the world. :(

Oh and OP, this is the exact reason why handicaps in the northern part of the U.S. aren't allowed to be posted during the late fall and winter. Bad scoring conditions and no fun = terrible scores

I'll take the rain in the NW any day over So Cal. IMO So Cal is boring and out of touch with reality, not to mentioned way over priced. Hey, but they are about to be annexed by Mexico.

I believe it was Mark Twain who said, "If the US was stood up, with Maine at the top and California at the bottom, everything that is loose in this country would end up in California", and indeed it seems it has, AND that was back when Mark Twain was alive!
