1. gear changes
Maybe but no changes are planned. I am very happy with what I have in my bag. I will probably change out wedges but I will go with the same type and loft.

2. workout routines
Ummmmm, I try not to workout. I am pretty good without working out. the only bad season I have had in the last 4 years was the season when I lost 30lbs.

3. lessons
I am self taught so no lessons. I do have a pro friend of mine look at my set-up etc at the beginning of the season each year but that's it.

4. personal goals to reach?
Well I had a pretty good year this year winning the club championship, the best ball championship, the member guest, and a couple others at my club. I guess I would just like another year like this one.

What are you all doing to get ready for the 2011 Season?

1. GEAR CHANGES - No major gear changes. I'm trying to learn to use the gear I have first. However.....I'm considering temporarily removing my driver from the bag and temporarily replacing it with a 2h (17 or 18 degrees). I'm awful with the driver and not all that great with my 3W. I'm thinking a 2h will give me more flexibility with some distance off the T, fairway, and rough.

2. WORKOUT ROUTINES - No major changes. I'll ramp-up my boxing and kickboxing training during the winter which is a lot of core strength. Plus it's fun. I'll be able to go to the driving range in the Spring and hit 150-200 balls with no soreness (assuming that I can avoid chipped teeth, broken noses, dislocated knees, or rib fractures while sparring). 3. LESSONS. I'll probably take a lesson or two...probably at the local Golf Galaxy which does video tape sessons. In the Spring, I might look at lessons from a golf pro in a nearby city courtesy of a recommendation from Iacas. I am also seriously considering getting a season pass to the golf dome at Turningstone Casino...but I'm not sure yet. 4. PERSONAL GOALS - Improve my consistency off the T with Driver, 3W, and hybrids....especially driver and 3W. More consistent ball striking which means fewer topped shots.

Driver:  Callaway Diablo Octane iMix 11.5*
Fairway: Cobra Baffler Rail F 3W & 7W
Irons:  Wilson Ci
Wedges:  Acer XB (52* & 56*)
Putter:  Cleveland Classic #10 with Winn Jumbo Pistol Grip

1. Gear Changes - can't see anything on the horizon. I keep trying to find a driver to outperform the one I have but every time I am in the store the new products don't give me any noticeable advantage. I have everything dialed in iron wise and have the lofts/lie set to my personal specs.

2. Workout Routine - maybe add some yoga and stretching to loosen up. I definitely need to finish my turn and some more flexibility will help me with that.

3. Lessons - I just came off a series of 12 lessons and reworked everything from the total swing, to chipping, and putting. More of the same to keep the momentum going. I went from a multi-year layoff and started back as an 8.5 and today I am a solid 6.

4. Personal goals - My goal for last year was to be a 5 by next summer, so I would like to be a mid 4. I think that would be significant seeing that for the most part I am a weekend warrior. If I get to mid 4 then I would like to play in a couple of amateur events.

1. Gear changes - Nothing planned here. Found a very good set up and I'm happy with my ball as well. Ordering the Limited Edition DryJoys and changing cleats to Softspikes Black Widow Tour. I know, what a massive change.
2. Nothing planned. Football season is over in a couple of weeks. Will continue aerobics/conditioning once a week at school. Might go out running sometimes.
3. Lessons - Work on my swing with the club pro. I want to get rid of the draw that's bothering me with my mid/long irons/hybrid and achieve the straight flight that accompanies me on a decent ball striking day. I feel like having a "stocK" straight shot allows me to work the ball both ways easier. Hopefully go to Spain with the club's Norwegian juniors for a week.
4. Personal goals. Get down to a 1 or 2. Increase my GIR percentage from 55% to about 65%. Average 30 putts per round, currently around 33/34.

If my hand heals

Gear Changes - regrip my irons. Maybe look into a hybrid to replace my 3i

Workout Routine - walk 4-5 mi 3x a week, lift weights, stretch 2x a week and continue my tai chi practice

Lessons - maybe get a lesson to establish a pre-shot routine, need to work on my targeting

Goals - short term: Play 2-3 times a month, hit the range once a week
long term: get to a 9 handicap

I plan on playing through the winter as much as possible but when it gets real cold here are my plans.

1. gear changes
Will probably add a 3 wood as my 14th club but thats about it. I am happy with all my gear.
2. workout routines
I want to start going to the gym but I really don't have anything planned out.
3. lessons
I will probably get one or two indoor lessons at golf galaxy in December sometime.
4. personal goals to reach?
Shoot somewhere in the low 90s by the end of next season.

Oops - goals. Work on consistency so I can play to my index in a Men's Open or two. A 7.0 index feels about right. If I eliminated 3-putts my tee-to-green game would put me in the 3-5 range, but I don't see that happening. Putting has always been my nemesis and pressure putts are that much harder. I just don't want enter a tournament as a 7.0 and then choke my way to an 85.

I'm in the same boat as you. I feel like my putting is really holding me back from breaking 80 more often.

  • 3 weeks later...
Packed up the clubs for the winter so I am looking forward to really restocking my bag for next season. My second season as a golfer is coming to a close and I'm looking to make my first big investment in some new clubs. Started out with a boxed set, got a new set of wedges, hybrids, driver, and 3 wood, none of which really broke the bank. Just tried to get a set that I felt like I could compete with and improve my game with before really dropping the dime on new clubs.

This off-season I'm looking to get fit for a new set of irons(Cobra S2 Max~$297.44 or GigaGolf PowerMax GX922~$199.50), and possibly a new set of wedges. I'm really trying to focus on lifting this winter and adding some distance for next season

Career Bests:

9 Holes--37 @ The Fairways at Arrowhead-Front(+2)

18 Holes--80 @ Carroll Meadows Golf Course(+9)

Home Course:

1) The Fairways at Arrowhead

2) Mayfair Country Club

Only thing I am changing for next year is the putter. Not to fond of the 2 ball srt i have and just purchased a Slotline putter. On the exercise I am starting P90x lean program this coming Monday to tone up and trim the fat off and My main goal next year since I didn't accomplish it yet(not done) this year is to break 90 (shot 91).
