Do they exist anymore? Lately GI irons designs are very busy and quite ugly. I think the only GI irons that looks decent are the Taylormade R9. My Ben Hogan Apex Edge irons were GI irons and very nice looking. Nike makes some of the ugliest GI/SGI irons. Those Slingshot OSS while back and SQ Machspeed recently. Don't think functional always has to coincide with ugly.

I was browsing through the irons department today while waiting for a repair. I was impressed by a few irons that I'd never have considered. Almost every brand had at least one set I'd consider playing. There was a players version of the R9 that didn't make me want to vomit. To be honest, I didn't look at the Nike, Cleveland, or Callaway stuff, but I suspect that other than one set of blades (or near blades) they're all even uglier than last year. I sort of glanced at the Callways but their silouhettes were displeasing so I quickly moved onto TM - that's probably why the R9s looked OK.

Check out the Callaway Preowned site. "like new" is brand new stuff there in my experience (5+ orders). They got all kinds of Big Berthas (various years), X20's, etc.. Great way to score new clubs on the cheap.

I don't hate the older Mizuno MX-300 or the new JPX-800 Pro.

I think the Nike full cavitys are one of the better looking GI irons out there. Also, the X18 and X22's as well.

Lately? Ever since the TA 845s and Titleist DCIs left the scene it's been tough getting something to fit the eye. Of course these clubs were the GIs of their day.

you liked the tommy armour 845s oversize irons? I had those for like 10 years, I thought they were ok. The titleist DCI's are way better IMO but they seemed more players club than the 845s. Im going to have to vote for the mizuno jpx pro's , maybe the R9's if they were forged.

I played with two members at a local course today. The lefty had AP2s and the righty had Nike Slingshots (I think that's what they were).

Sitting in the bag the Titleist looked much better. After a few holes, the Nike guy had hit some of the most beautiful iron shots I've seen this year. Those Nike's kept looking better. The AP2s btw were getting uglier by the minute. I know it's not rocket science, but if they work, hit 'em.

What exactly does this have to do with appearance?

i guess not much, but I retract my vote for them. They are too big to me. The taylormade R9 tp's look good but arent GI

Nike full cavities are pretty ugly to me. The split cavity are so so looking. The Callaway X-series irons are nice irons but not a big fan of how they look. Just look a bit clunky.

Not looking to buy new irons just a statement on how ugly GI irons are lately.

If it says "forged" on the club it makes you look like a pro.

Mizunos are for the most part pretty good with their designs. Although I think they went a little overboard with the 53/63's. AP1's are not that pleasing to look at, just too busy in there. I love the look of Titleist 710 CB's and would mix them up with their MB's if I had the cash. Very simple and clean. Do the masses like the look of something like a Nike Machspeed or a Callaway Diablo?

These Cleveland CG7's don't look too bad:

I wouldn't care if my clubs looked like Mimi Bobeck as long as they work good.

I doubt it, I personally don't. The Callaways are nice clubs though, very easy to hit. I just don't like that they look more like a fishing lure than a golf club.

Can't believe I missed this. "Not much?" How does forging have

anything to do with appearance?
