I like the bag chatter that even well cared for set of forged irons develops over time. Some people hate it.

Most forged irons don't have a bunch of crap glued and welded on the back. Coincidentally many cast irons with these "extra details" are advertized as feeling more like forged irons.

I wouldn't begin to consider the x-forged a GI iron. It is very good looking, however.

You could be right. However, I wouldn't lump this club in with thicker soled, high MOI cavity back irons as discussed earlier in the thread.

do you think you'l buy a gamer set of cavity back irons in the future? After having my mp-32's for awhile and even for years to come with them, Im not sure if Il buy a set thats not a blade style, especially since Il be so use to playing with that style.

"Cavity back"? Maybe if I find a set of S57s or FG Tours for dirt cheap, but probably not.

Compared to the MP-11s I was using for > 15 years, my Cleveland TA1s feel like Game Improvement irons, so I'll see how that plays out next year.

I really do think people have to forget the "GI" term.
The vast majority of clubs these day have features which are designed to improve one's game. Thank goodness for that. Just because an iron has perimeter weighting doesn't mean your balls have been sliced off.
Unfortunatey, there are a lot of golfers who aren't really interested in golf, but are interested in golf equipment and having clubs that they think will either impres other people or are worried about what people will think of their "GI"clubs. Who cares? You hit what works. The R9 TP irons are as much a cavity back as almost everything else out there. As for the forged v cast BS, when are poeople going to learn that the diffference is essentially no difference when it comes to performance?

All this talk about "blades" is also complete BS. People need to move on, as club designers clearly have.
As for asking which ones are good looking, surely that is individual preference.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

All this talk? I think you're in the wrong thread.

But since you mention it - the blades and club designers having moved on - a lot of club designers like to make something that looks edgy. Eventually edgy becomes gaudy. Then they come out with something more simple and uniformed looking, without the useless decals and "vibration dampeners", and the fanboys get all melty over a club that was already on the market 20 years ago. Look at all the hype Scratch is getting for aping a bunch of irons that MacGregor had in their lineup in the 70s and 80s. Whatever. Look at all the mileage Titleist got out of a very simple and traditional looking MB and CB lineup. The MBs from a distance could be confused with any number of no-name entry level blades from the 1960s though 1980s. Whether it's an USMGI monstrosity like the original Callaway BB or a super ugly pure blade like a Pinseeker, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For some guys, it's all about moving the ball from point A to B with maximum efficiency and minimal effort. Other people get something more out of this hobby and - brace yourself - actually enjoy this hobby. Some people feel a sense of accomplishment after making a par with sticks Golf Digest considers well past its expiration date. You do know this is a hobby, right? Whether we shoot in the low 70s with one club or in the low 80s with another, you know it really doesn't matter - right?!?!?

you liked the tommy armour 845s oversize irons? I had those for like 10 years, I thought they were ok. The titleist DCI's are way better IMO but they seemed more players club than the 845s. Im going to have to vote for the mizuno jpx pro's , maybe the R9's if they were forged.

Actually, I was talking about the original 845s that I carried around for 16 years! Back when they came out Freddy and Davis were playing them with Duval on the DCIs. They were a little ahead of the times.

I don't hate the older Mizuno MX-300 or the new JPX-800 Pro.

I agree, that was one of the reasons I first looked at my CI-6s, as someone who prefers a simpler esthetic a lot of the GI, especially SGI irons are over the top. I would blame it on my advanced age but I have always been this way, everything form furniture to clothes and cars. My ex considered it boring I of course responded that I just prefer a classy elegant look.

I agree with the GI term being crappy, but I do think it all comes down to personal preference. So, whatever club gets it done, gets it done. For some people a blade may instill confidence or just match their swing better, so I don't think blades are BS.

X-forged I consider to be a more of a player's irons like the Titleist AP2's and MP-58's.

      I dont know if I really have a favorite, but there are two that have stuck in my mind for a very long time. #15 at Erie Golf course during the Finals of the EDGA Matchplay. Was up early and then lost a few holes in row so the match was close again. My opponent had a short putt for birdie. I hit past hole high, but 35 feet right. I drained the putt and looked over at my opponent who was in disbelief.   #8 at Whispering Woods during another year of the EDGA Matchplay. Was playing a very cocky opponent who made sure to mention on the first tee how many times he won the club championship at this course. I hammered this 30 footer that clanked off of the pin and dropped. My opponent was disgusted and that made me weirdly happy. I went on to win 5&3 or something like that, so that entire day has stayed in my memory.

      Day 20: Did 30 minutes after getting home from work, before kid's baseball practice. This session was piecing out the new hip move in transition, doing 2-3 rehearsals from the top, and then hitting a ball from between P5/P6. Did another 45 minutes after baseball practice and dinner. Did 30 more minutes of what I did earlier, and then about 15 minutes of full swings trying to incorporate athletically.
