Honestly, I would have thought the same thing until I saw the article in Golf Digest. There are pictures of the fakes beside the genuine clubs. The my spy website link above has a lot of pics of fakes and real clubs as well. After seeing that, I am convinced it would be quite hard to tell the difference by their appearance. I always knew there was lots of fake clubs, namely coming out of China. However, I never realized it was this common. Buyer beware is a bit of an understatement.

I agree that there are a lot of guys there in ebay selling counterfeits. But there are a lot that selll the real thing at excellent prices. As I stated above, I bought a set of irons Nike CCI forged at 1/3 of the original price from Golfetail, I just bought 2 wedged Cleveland CG14 from gppgolf at $65 a piece + shipping. Clubs are great and absolutely genuine. As these two there are several others like dallasgolf, timtheputterman and others. You have to be pretty selective to avoid getting stuck with knockoffs

I was curious if Golfetail was legit so I looked on Callaways approved online sellers and a place called North County Golf Outlet showed up with the same mailing address as Golfetail uses. I called them and asked if there wrre affliated with Golfetail and they said "Yes, Golfetail is our ebay store and we are an authorized dealer with Callaway". I am waiting on my clubs right now and will let you know how it turns out. I am still a little worried but that info did make me feel better.

How did those clubs turn out?  I just bought a set of callaway x20 tour  -left handed.  I won them for 250$  I'm assuming the price was low due to the few lefty golfers out there.  I will see them on Aug. 3rd.

I sent Mike Orton's response to Callaway and asked them if Golfetail was an authorized dealer.  See their response below.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for your recent E-mail. We appreciate your taking the time to contact us with your inquiry.

In response to your inquiry, golfetail.com is not one of Callaway’s authorized online retailers

I'm not buying from them.....good luck if you do.

I am a bit suspicious that this is your first post ever on the forums.

Seems odd to reply to a 2 yr old Golfetail thread. That said I buy stuff from them all the time, never a problem.

Everyone has to have a first posting.  I bet you even had one once.  Contact Callaway yourself it's not that hard.  By the way.....I now have posted twice.

Congrats, lets see if you can go for # 3 on another thread not related to bashing golfetail.

The thing that intrigues me is the people who played these "counterfeit" clubs and said they played fine, but then after finding out they are not "authentic" the clubs become worthless

I am sorry, why all of a sudden does the club not perform like it did before?

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
