The bottom line is that unless you can provide some form of validity to your statements, then you have no reason to even post in this thread. Without that, you might as well be arguing if dragons are scarier than zombies. Anyone can just talk and throw out opinions if there is no proof to your side of the argument. This thread should be a debate between intelligent adults. I personally do not smoke while on the course or before playing a round. To me it's the most beneficial post-round when you're feeling worn out and your back/legs are sore. There is no better remedy for back pain without a prescription for pain killers. The argument for the opposition of cannabis usually means you've never tried it (due to stereotypes or possible lack of availability). Do your homework and don't believe everything you hear. And if you're just trolling...well played.

BTW you know they randomly drug test on the PGA tour and yes they even hit up the stars.  So I doubt the validity of this string of statements.

by the way...Nicotine is not added to tabacco, it is naturally occuring in tabacco.  As for weed, here is a little info on some current research on the effects of weed.

As in every statement, I preface it by saying I am for its legalization.

The following where taken from a Science Journal last year.  It is the result of a study from a DNA and Cancer causing effects of weed.

"... Cannabis smoke contains 400 compounds including 60 cannabinoids. However, because of its lower combustibility it contains 50% more carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons including naphthalene, benzanthracene, and benzopyrene, than tobacco smoke " Dr. Raj Singh

Reasearchers go on to add "...ability of cannabis smoke to damage DNA has significant human health implications especially as users tend to inhale more deeply than cigarette smokers, which increases respiratory burden. "The smoking of 3-4 cannabis cigarettes a day is associated with the same degree of damage to bronchial mucus membranes as 20 or more tobacco cigarettes a day"

The conclusion of the major study said "The data obtained from this study suggesting the DNA damaging potential of cannabis smoke highlight the need for stringent regulation of the consumption of cannabis cigarettes, thus limiting the development of adverse health effects such as cancer"

Good luck finding it. People like you are part of the problem. I hope you don't consider someone like Carl Sagan (famous astrophysicist who smoked weed every day) to be dumb considering you claim it kills brain cells. Don't worry, I used to be like you until I took it upon myself to actually research things before ignorantly stating "facts".

It may not make you dumb....but it has major effect on the brain such as a greater risk for Schizophrenia or Psychosis.  Prolonged use can have impacts on the areas of the brain such as the hippocampus and amygdala, this controls memory, emotion, fear and aggression.  I would be happy to provide you the links to the studies performed by the Melbourne Neuropsychiatry Centre?

Yes, me too, although not necessarily just because they do tests.

Although I know pot effects everybody differently it is hard to think that an athlete that needs to perform always at the top of his or her mental and physical abilities would take a chance by playing stoned.  Maybe for a recreational round they would, but I doubt anybody plays pro tournaments blazed.

I don't know if they still do, but the cigarette companies did indeed add nicotine to their cigarettes. What we have found out about nicotine is that it is more addictive than heroin. That is why the cigarette companies added nicotine, to get more smokers. That worked very effectively.

In my mind the cigarette companies have committed worse crimes than many drug pushers b/c they knew cigarette smoking was addictive, knowingly added more nicotine to pump up the bottom line and generally added to a unhealthy life style,  but kept saying that there weren't any health problems associated with smoking. Now if one wasn't around before the 80's I can see how this paragraph would be questionable.

Having been a respiratory therapist for the last 34 years I can say without a doubt that I've seen a lot more damage from cigaettes than marijuana, that isn't to say that there isn't any damage done from marijuana. This is the 3rd demension and a demension of attrition; everything and I mean everything comes with a price/consequences. So it seems to me that its more of a question of, "are you willing to deal with the consequences"?

As a "kid" i smoked a lot of pot. Now a days every few months i'll do it with friends. Last season i went out to play alone. Met up with some younger guy. Asked if i wanted to take a hit. I did. And par'd the next two holes. Just saying.

I occasionally smoke on the course.

It will do either one of 3 things;

Turn a real bad round good

Turn a good round REAL bad

Or just turn a bad round into a fun round

All of the above are fine with me

Of course you've seem more damage from cigarettes.  There are many, many more cigarette smokers than there are potheads, and most of those that you've been treating have been smoking those cigarettes since long before pot became popular.  That's a no brainer.

Anyone who has smoked pot for as long as most of those have smoked cigarettes will show the same sort of respiratory symptoms.

You guys are funny...

Live and let live.  If one guys thinks it's great so be it. If another guys thinks you're an idiot for smoking it so be it.  Who cares.  All I remember is if you were high right now reading this stuff you would be laughing your a$$ off right now.

Life is good.

BTW,  I work for a drug testing lab and know way more about most of this stuff than any of you guys.  It's just not worth the time.  There have been some good points and some inaccurate points made in all these pages but the bottom line is most opinions are not going to change.

I wish they would legalize it, it would double my business.

My buddy once brought a joint to the golf course for us to smoke quickly while we waited for the slow foursome ahead of us to finish up on the green (it was a par 3), and after having a few puffs i set up to the ball (obviously pretty high LOL) and the shot could not have been better, landed 3 feet form the hole pin high.

the affects of marijuana dont really effect the way you play but it differs greatly depending on the person.

but to the point, i dont think the pot had any effect on your game the following day.

Went out today.............. guy i was paired with pulled out a joint on the second hole. Offered me a hit and after that i hit my shot of the day. Worst day of golf ever by the way. I wasnt in the mindset going into it and it never got better than the few shots i took after hitting the joint.

fourputt

I've done PFT's (pulmonary function test) on ppl who smoked cigarettes, (which as you pointed out there are a lot of) and ppl who just smoked pot, or at least the ones who would admit it. The PFT's of the smokers were noticablly worse than the other group; IMO b/c ppl who smoke cigarettes smoke way more than ppl who smoke marijuana. They both have there malidies, but from what I've seen so far the ciagette malidies far out weigh the malidies of marijuana. One thing all of the "experts" do agree on is that there needs to be more studies done and I would add to that OBJECTIVE studies.

    • Went to a PING fitting day today. Going to be ordering a G430 Max 3w with a 75g x-stiff shaft at 5w length and a 3h. I forget what my fitter did with the shaft on that but she told me she’s going to email the club the specs of everything. The 3w combination we found pretty quickly. As for the hybrid, we tried a bunch of different head and shaft combinations for that distance with mixed results. Then she handed me the 3h and I took three swings with it and knew it was the one.
    • Yeah, this isn't sandbagging. It's outright cheating. He should be banned.
    • That’s quite a generalization. It’s clear that you don’t like water but there are plenty of us that drink it just fine. My daily intake is usually about 20oz of black coffee, 16oz of soda, 8oz of milk mixed into a protein shake, and anywhere between 30-60oz of water. It doesn’t even need to be cold and I kind of prefer it closer to room temperature than cold. I quite like the taste of tap water, with sole exception being the tap water at Magic Kingdom (it’s terrible). I can’t stand when people bring me tap water with a lemon wedge in it. I didn’t ask for lemon in my water.
    • This is the part I don’t get. He’s not even kind of sandbagging, he’s blatantly doing it and submitting scores that are verified to be incorrect. How he’s not banned from competition is beyond me.
    • He's right in what he's saying.I also have done this experiment with a golf shaft swinging with one arm at a time.one arm at a time is for me very fast but both hands together are very slow ..I got my 17 year old son to do this experiment and he swung very fast with either hand and he swung very fast with both hands together..My conclusion up to now is ; I'm not using my wrists properly but I not a 100 percent sure just yet..I will keep trying to fathom this out .I'm a 12 handicap and my son is 3.9 at Westlancs..
