Hello everyone! First of all, i'm new on this forum, but I've been reading a lot recently. So as the title says, I want to purchase some new clubs, and I've been interested in clones clubs (I don't want to start a debate about should I or not buy clones, I made up my mind), so I can change my old wood clubs and 1970's something irons. I shoot about 100 each round, but I want to break that next season. So couple of questions for you : 1) Which clone irons - woods would you recommand for the type of player that I am ?? (I'm a lefty BTW, so I'm limited in terme of choices) 2) which website would you recommant the most (Gigagolf, Pinemeadow, Diamondtour, etc..) ?? 3) What king of grip do you recommand if I tell you my palms sweat a little, and that I don't play with glove ?? 4) Are the stock shafts on these websites are any good or you recommand something else ?? thanks for your time Once again, I Know I could buy used clubs, but I like the fact that I can customize the clones clubs! and they're CHEAP! I played Pinemeadow clubs for a couple years and they honestly were pretty decent clubs for what I paid for them.  I got a bag and a full set of clubs for $300, which nowdays is a steal.

Another option would be to go to Target, Walmart or a sporting goods store and buy a set of Top-Flite or a cheap set of Wilsons.  You can usually get them for $300-$400 and get a good starter set.

I played my friend's top flite that he bought from Costco, but I don't like them so much! How about the Acer XF from Hireko?? I believe they're based on the new callaways Razr, am I wrong?!

I play GigaGolf Cavity backs for my 4, 5, and 6 irons.  I also use a GigaGolf Putter and Wedge.

GigaGolf is coming out with some new designs and branding this spring.  They are trying for a more unique and individualized look to their clubs.

one of my playing partners just got some clones for 200 total including shafts and grips. through a catalog, golf world or something like that. today was the first time I saw them, but he has played them for a few rounds so far and likes them a lot. and he gained a few yards.

golf is a lot like life. the more you enjoy it, the better off you are. a3_biggrin.gif

how about checking out the full sets made by PowerBilt? They are available on eBay and are not expensive. I got a set for a friend of mine last year and he absolutely loves them.....bag, irons driver, hybrid and putter for $180......

And to answer your grip question, I would always recommend an interlock grip. I feel like your control over the club is unmatched over a 10 finger grip. There are multiple interlock grips. As long as you are comfortable interlocking (and even if you're not, give it a shot!). golf-grip.jpg

Another vote for Gigagolf. I love my set, only my putter is not from them.

As for grips take a look at what the sites offer then go to a dicks/golf galaxy or someplace and try them for youself. Get what is comfortable.

I have the stock true temper steel shafts that Giga offers with the irons and am happy with them. I did upgrade the wood shafts.

Typically most new players cant tell the difference from cheap clones to top of the line clubs and for $200-$300 you cant expect much.

A word of caution to the OP:

There isn't anything wrong with learning on clones, and you're right, it does provide you the chance to get new custom clubs for a relatively cheap price ($200 - $300).  A set that fits you will be much better than a set that doesn't.

Here is the caveat:  the price for clones can climb if you want a good quality grip and shaft... and you want good quality here.  They are the most important parts of the golf club.  For instance, adding a Golf Pride grip and Dynamic Gold shaft to a set of irons from Giga Golf tacks on well over $100 onto the build price.  Now we are looking at a set that is nearing $300.

What if the 2* flat set from a clone company doesn't fit you in a year or after a few lessons?  Most club makers would hesitate to bend a lesser-quality cast club, even a few degrees.  What if the cheap shafts that you opted (instead of the dynamic golds) for aren't right?  Expect to pay $150 for a new set from your local club maker.

What if it's time to move onto something else?  A used set of Titleist, Callaway, Taylormade or other clubs that you purchased for $200 will still be worth nearly as much.  You'll be able to sell these quickly, because people want affordable, quality clubs.  The $300 clones that are bent to fit you will sit in the buy/sell/trade forum at $75 for months on end.

Again, there is nothing wrong with starting on a set of clones.  However, the 'value' you perceive now may shift in a few short months.

Ask Nuck81, he bought a full set of Giga Golf clubs that came with fishing poles for shafts, and less than a year later he's using 3 of the 8 he bought.

I don't know of the extent of his club fidelities, or lack thereof.  I'll let him reply here.  Hopefully he hasn't spent too much time with Enis.

I don't know if I should be flattered or pissed?

For what it's worth out of the 12 clubs in my bag, my putter, 56* wedge, 4, 5, 6, iron are GigaGolf.  my 7-pw are Titleist 990's that used to be my dad's.  My dad passed away and I just like to use them cause they were his, and to be honest I probably hit the GigaGolf Cavity Backs a little better, but I love my Poppa so it is what it is.

The only clubs I have bought from GigaGolf I didn't like where the Hybrids.  And it's not cause they are bad quality or anything, it's just I like hitting a 5 and 4 iron better than a 6 and 5 hybrid.

And the Shafts are all TruTemper Feather Flight Premiums on my clubs, and I payed another $2 per club to get Golf Pride Tour Velvet Grips...
