Like I said, it was great that Rory won after what happened to him, but there was absolutely no competition, no drama whatsoever. That makes it a tad boring to most people. At least a few people were in with a shout of winning the Open until the back 9. But it's all opinion eh!

Fair young there, wasn't he? Probably a GUI event from a few years ago.

I thought you'd 'moved on' deasy? seems you're unable to.

2007 Walker Cup. Seems to have no qualms about hoisting the tricolour.

I just saw my friend post it on facebook and decided I felt like proving you wrong.

And now I've moved on

You didn't prove him wrong. You showed him a picture of Rory hoisting the tri color flag. He probably wouldn't say no. Rory is pretty quiet in regards to what he considers himself - but most of the time I have seen it ( apart from your one picture ) he calls himself Northern Irish.

He was hardly going to refuse to hoist it was he? It's a team event. 'Great Britain & Ireland'. i.e, there was no Northern Ireland flag there to raise. He could have ended up raising the Union Jack even. Has absolutely nothing to do with the 'debate' we're having. But you can feel like you've proven me wrong if you like, I don't mind, I'm not taking it as personally as you seem to be. Keep on moving on!

People from Quebec salute the Canadian flag and stand at attention when our national anthem is being sung (especially when they're on the podium). They appear proud to don the maple leaf when they make national teams too, yet they typically see themselves as Quebecers first and as Canadians a distant second. This doesn't add to one side of this debate or the other, but at least it opens up the possibility of photos of the Canadian synchronized swim team.

Tiger Spuds said he had never played under the tricolour as he is from Northern Ireland. I showed him 2 cases where he did play under it...The 2007 Walker Cup and the 2009 World Cup. Hence the proving him wrong.

Like I said, i'm done. Have a nice evening.

Twisting my words. I said he doesn't play under the tricolour. As in, now.. present tense etc. Individual competition, he plays under the Northern Ireland flag. As he did for the U.S. Open.. so It's a Northern Irish victory, it's as simple as that. He played under the Tricolour in those team events ONLY because there was no Northern Irish team to play under. Again, has nothing to do with what we're actually discussing. Just had to correct you on that.

But I don’t set it up. It’s not my job. It’s my job to find an effective way to play it. But the way it’s set up means it will lead to par, par, par, par.”

Seems like a fair point to make.

The only thing I really find intriguing about Open Championships is the weather.  I can't really explain it, but the impact the weather has on the players isn't exactly what I'm talking about.   It's like the weather is it's own character during the Open.  It seems to make things boring because there typically aren't many late charges when weather is brutal, but I still pretty much tune in expecting to see shots of empty greens with wind-flapped flagsticks and people looking around as if to wonder when mother nature is going to press the "pause" button.

Well, that and the other people setting records who still had no chance of catching him pretty much made for an uneventful and drama-free Open.  That major paled in comparison to the Masters.

I agree it is a funny picture.

But the headline really gets under my skin.

As a proud Irish man I feel it's time we moved on from this stereotype that we are all a bunch of alcoholics.

Also I hate the term "Paddie" as a reference to a Irish man.

And yes I do realise my forum name is Paddy Harrington but Paddy is an acceptable abbreviation of Patrick or Padraigh that I don't have a problem with, but my name is not Patrick so I hate it when someone from another country calls me a Paddie because I am Irish.

A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks that others throw at him

I'm Irish also and have no problem with it. There's no harm meant by it. Like calling Americans Yanks or Australians calling all women Sheila.
