It blew my wig back. Thanks to Jeff Shaw in Seattle... Is it true you no longer get the student manual? I'm pretty bummed out because the class is pretty action packed and I didn't get a chance to jot down notes and document all the terms... Is there a PDF of the manual for students?

Short answer: correct, no longer get the manual. Longer answer involves things I think some folks prefer we don't talk about.

What did you want to know? There's not a ton of stuff in it.

I was hoping to get the terminology down better... anchors, the different name of the lines, etc... The process for reading the green. I glanced through the "last copy" of the student manual Jeff had and it had a nice list of dos and don'ts. The main thing that drew me to the class is that is a scientific method, but then presumes I can't handle too much information in a manual? WTFrack? A huge letdown... Either they feel students are too stupid to handle it after the class, are afraid of copies getting on the internet, or they are trying to save more for later to get people to come back to the advanced class. I'm not sure which is worse.

I REALLY wish we got one homework item: 6 inches of capture speed. I've been so used to running the ball 18-24 inches past the hole I missed everything high side...

To anyone considering taking an AimPoint class: practice running the ball only 6 inches past the hole for a few weeks before you take the class.

I got a manual, and just about everything that is in it (and much, much more) is available on the AimPoint forum. If you haven't already, you should talk to you instructor about getting approved.

Solid Jamo. My instructor just emailed Mark. Once I get access, where in the forum are the goodies?

None of those things are the case, and I don't think it's appropriate for you to speculate. Additionally, the book has very little information in it.

I find the "very little information" to be extremely useful. Many times have I wanted to clarify something and found it detailed excellently in the manual complete with photographs and clear descriptions; a far better immediate resource than the forum and a great resource to hammer things home from the class.

To me the forum already has a wealth of information although it takes a bit of searching to find what you need. Any questions not already on there will be answered in far more detail than the manual, however it takes a little time for the information to be given.

I found the book helpful, but not essential.  Very curious as to the secret reason for dumping the book.

I played a casual round last weekend with my brother. I was worried it would slow down play, but it wasn't until the 5th hole he noticed I was using the flip charts. 3 one-putts in a row from 12'-24' on stimp 11 greens!

Nice! AimPoint is faster, yep, and it'll get even faster the more you use it.

I once read a guy's putt from the tee box of the par three. A few holes earlier he'd had a 20-footer from 90 degrees on a 2% slope. I think it was 22 inches. So he hits a shot on a 200-yard par three to about 20 feet, looked to be pin high with the green sloping back to front, and I guessed 2%. So from the tee box I said "that putt breaks 22 inches to the left." We got up there and, lo and behold, the putt broke 22 inches because he was 20 feet away on a 2% slope at 90 degrees.

So there you go: AimPoint is so fast, you can read the green from the tee. ;-)

Haha that's awesome. If that's not a selling point, i'm not sure what is.

    • Its way past time both tours  have  major  penalties for  slow  play. I  hate  it when they say" This group is  on the  clock". Big damn deal. Issue  penalties. Maybe Hull is a  bit too harsh but  its time a slew  of  2 stroke  penalties start  being  issued.     Charley Hull is fed up with slow play on the LPGA, so she offered a ‘ruthless’ solution “I’m quite ruthless, but I said, ‘Listen, if you get three bad timings, every time it’s a tee shot penalty; if you have three of them, you lose your Tour card instantly.’ I’m sure that would hurry a lot of people up, and they won’t want to lose their Tour card. That would kill the slow play, but they would never do that.” Who knows if that will work. But if it does not, maybe the PGA Tour should adopt Hull’s idea. The LPGA should, too, or at least assess penalty strokes for slow play. Five-hour rounds for a final group on Sunday is unacceptable and a quick way to lose interest and engagement from fans.

    • A hair under 190. It was pretty downhill, though, so I think we were playing between 180-185 to the pin. My 6 iron went 187 according to shot scope and ended up 18 feet away.
    • That's a tough pin on 14 at TR, had to make the hole play much longer, how far was that shot? I've only played that hole with a front pin.
    • No, but I spent (marginally) less time in the trees at Southern Pines, so it definitely played wider for me 😆. It definitely felt wider.
