sorry for the quality and frame rates, this was filmed on my cell phone.

I am hitting a 7i here and hit this particular ball about 160-165.

two things i want to work at:

1. my sister is a pro and told me i am hanging back with my shoulders causing me to dip and with a driver i get a lovely slice.

2. i sway more than i want to on my downswing.

if you have any tips on how I can fix those two things i would appreciate it. and if you notice anything else of course.

Really nice swing. Difficult to see the arms going into impact (blurry), but it looks like arms could be straighter (I'm seeing some bent elbows at impact). Right leg could straighten more going into impact. I see a touch of upper body sway on the backswing. Please post a DTL--to see swing plane, etc.

Ok here's my take, good swing overall though.

threejack swing 1.jpg

Have someone hold a shaft against the left side of your head and don't lose contact with the shaft.  Almost feel like the head is leaning into it.  Will feel it in the abs.

thanks a lot for that analysis, appreciate the time and feedback. I was wondering about that hip sliding forward into impact, is that good or not? I watch rory's swing and he doesn't seem to have any lateral movement. I laughed when I read about the grip on my head because she actually was doing that drill with me yesterday. I am also working really hard to start extending those arms at follow through that Zach depicts so nicely, I think this is the reason for my occasional misses and probably my slice with woods because I don't finish at my target, is that correct? How can i work on getting that finish correct

This would be a great thread to check out for the hip stuff http://thesandtrap.com/t/29616/the-biggest-secret-slide-your-hips

Everyone who hits the ball first moves the hips forward, that is how we move low point forward.  "Slide" is a bad word for some golf instructors, to concerned with how Hogan said he felt than what he actually did

Rory P4-P7 caddy.jpg

To get the arms more extended on the followthrough, this would be a good drill to do http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GLY-5VXpFM     This drill really exaggerates the followthrough pieces, also note how I "stop" the finish.  This will help get rid of those slices.

And just doing a lot of repetitions of hips forward, arms straight, tuck the butt

Hard to really tell alot without hitting a ball but, your driver swing is for sure steep on the downswing which is why you are slicing the ball.

Yeah, you really need to be hitting a ball.

You may also need to learn to square the clubface, but you won't do that by rotating your forearms.

Okay I'll try to get some new vids this week at the range. How does one square the face iacas? do i just need to get more rotation through my upper body?

I'm not going to tell you, because you may not need to do any "more" of it.

haha okay. I'm watching swing visions of pros on youtube down the line and nearly every pro with the driver drops their hands down at the top of the backswing. sergio does it really well! what is it that they're all doing and how do i mimic that, I'm assuming it causes the inside out swing?

One feeling that has helped me approach the ball in to out: Feel like you are skipping a flat rock (with your right arm) across the pond from the top of the backswing. Another feeling that works for others: Feel like you are side arm karate chopping with your right arm from the top of the backswing:

Work on starting your swing, not as much with your wrists, but with your shoulders. You don't want to start off your swing with breaking your wrists. It only helps the further you get into your swing anyway.

im guessing you're referring to my early wrist break? I seem to have success with it on my irons right now and i am really scared to change it. I noticed Dustin Johnson does the same thing. I do it because I like to see I am setting my wrists the right way, otherwise I tend to have an open face at the top. I will definitely try it out on the range though to see if it makes no difference! Good observation though, I always try to keep my arms shoulders and hands as one unit on the takeaway but sometimes the wrists get away.

Well modeling your swing off of a pro's is hard work, but if you can manage it then go for it.

You said you have an open club face at the top when you don't break your wrists, well you can still break them I was just saying to delay it a bit because that helps with rotation and staying on plane. It also makes for a smoother takeaway and can benefit the whole swing in the end. Experiment though and let us know. It's your swing so do what works for you.

will do. i definitely don't model my swing off DJ, just that aspect has given me success in the past. but I will fool around with it and report back

    • First, it is on free TV. NBC is free to anyone with an antenna, and is on almost any TV in the U.S. with a minimal amount of effort. Charging "a bargain price" would be incredibly dumb. They charged $750 and the event sold out almost immediately. You could better argue they should have charged MORE, not less. What happens if you charge less: ticket scalpers buy up even more of the tickets because they see value: if tickets were $250, they'd clearly have sold for $1k or more on the secondary market. That's tremendous value. Fans would end up paying the same or more, or just not being able to go. Sure, a few who happened to be online at the precise moment on a fast connection and didn't fumble with their credit cards might have gotten tickets for $250, but the secondary market and ticket brokers would have scooped up the vast majority with automated processes and bots and scripts, then re-sold them later on. This way, fans get to purchase the tickets, and the PGA is earning that revenue, not the secondary ticket brokers. Econ 101. Supply and Demand. Nope.
    • Edit - the link has no title, but basically Tiger wants $5 million for each US player to “donate to charity”   They could put the Ryder Cup on free to air tv, and charge the fans a bargain price to get in.  If you have to  give the players $60 million, that’s why the tickets are $750.
