If you love golf, you wouldnt have a winter break? i dont get it !

i dont get why you have a winter break? im playing every day over here and its raining then its shining then its pouring down. but i love it so what if my waterproofs get wet?

just noticed this topic on a few threads and thought id ask why you take  a "winter break" your game will decrease everyday you dont play in my opinion.

For me I don't need to worry about it since I live in southern California and play all year long (in fact, winter is our season)... that being said, it's kind of hard to play in the snow and considering many people have to deal with that and sub-freezing temperatures, that's why they take a winter break.

I'm guessing you don't get copious amounts of snow where you are. Also I don't mind the cold at all, but the idea of swinging and impacting the ground with a metal stick at -17C isn't appealing either.

Right now the course is 4 inches deep in snow.  Cold weather is forecast through the weekend, so it's not going to melt off enough for the course to even open, much less for anything resembling decent playing conditions.  Rain is one thing - snow is quite a different problem.

Our local courses closed sometime between Oct 26 and Oct 30. Late for this area. The budgets have been spent, the golf course staff have been laid off for winter and the gates are closed and locked. There are some facilities open for winter activities (skating, Xcountry skiing, etc) but golf is over. Drop the puck!

Actually on our course here in Finland it is forbidden to enter the course if it is in frost. So about now it is the last days of season until May. Tomorrow might be my last round for some time.

I watch those home renovation shows, many of which are made in Canada. You'd be lucky to find the golf course under the amount of snow they get, let alone play golf.

Not every person lives in Florida. Or Australia, or Spain, or Greece.

Here as well.  Once we get the first snowfall (it's amazing we haven't already!) the courses shut down immediately.  We're already having long frost delays in the morning, I don't even bother trying to get a tee time before 9am right now.  I have a suspicion this weekend will be the last for golf until mid-late April, fortunately the weather looks promising!

Ever heard of too much of a good thing!  I personally find a break rewarding, I put my clubs up in late October and by the beginning of the new year I am itching to get back out and play.  By taking a break it renews my interest in the game and gives the drive to go back out and try to continue to improve.  It gives me time to reflect on what I did well the last year and what I need to improve on in the up coming year.

This might not be true for everyone, but I find a short break improves my game.

Thats not really true. If you play everday, but you are playing bad, or swing bad, you will not improve no matter what. To me, i like winter break because i can focus on working out, and working on my swing mechanics. Going back to basics, its always good to a break. It doesn't mean that you love the game any less.. I should take offense to that.

That's true for every course in the world, unless someone's developed a freeze-proof grass I haven't heard about.

Frost delays are a regular occurrence on winter mornings even here in California.

Ok, I thought someone mentioning playing with (light) snowy conditions. On the other hand you can have snow flakes falling without grass being frosted over.

I went out in 40F with cold rain on wednesday. That looks like it would be considered a very good day to golf this winter.

I play all winter barring snow but I also won't go out if it's real windy or very cold. Also I don't play rain golf in the winter I get to play enough golf through out the year that I can handle missing a couple of rounds for bad weather in the winter.
