Good to hear!

Yeah, I actually have time to stand there and watch it hang there before dropping to the target. I feel like a pro staring it down! Start lines are still a bit shaky but keeping my arms very passive feeling in the downswing seems to give the best results, any attempt to control the face leads to inconsistency there. The good news is that when I start the ball left of the target I get a big hook and when I start it too far right I get a straight push so I feel like I'm doing well with the path. I think I'm getting close to being able to set up with the face pointing slightly to the right to avoid the hooks and I think that will also help me keep the path rightward as I have a subliminal cue that the path has to farther right than the face is pointing. In any case, I'm not going to worry too much about that stuff for now, just going to keep working on snapping the left shoulder UP and OPEN as the first move coming down.

Also, prior to the Erie trip I had lost all ability to get my long irons and hybrids up in the air, that's no longer the case as I have been getting almost as much height with my 4H as I am with my 8 iron.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

Ugh. Not that well. Hit some really great shots but too many big ass pushes absolutely killed my score. Way too many OB and way too many water balls. Had one total blow up hole were I just couldn't get over the god damn water. 8 over on that hole. :bugout: Hit some REALLY solid pitches and got a decent amount of pars but just could not string anything together. All in all, it is coming along and there is improvement but until I can stop leaving the face wide open on every third freakin shot I'm going to struggle. I have a piece to work on that will help eliminate that push but I'm mostly focusing on another piece first as I have a hard time working on both at the same time. I need to start working that piece into my practice routine though because high and long is NO good when the face is 17* open at impact. However, with all the penalties and blowups I only shot 3 strokes higher than last time I played this course on the simulator, so as weird as it sounds, I believe that does represent some improvement because my better holes were better-er if you know what I mean...and there were more if them, almost enough to completely off-set the ridiculous amount of penalty strokes I incurred. Actually, I was pleasantly surprised at my score, which I never tally until the end of the round. As bad as it was, it was considerably lower than I expected it to be. Take away just a few of my biggest errors and bam, just broke 100 on a Championship course...of course, if frogs had wings they wouldn't bump their ass when they hopped either...

Oh, I know about pushes, very frustrating. It's taken me about 4 months to get where I can hit 150 balls, and only have a few pushes, mainly with wedges and shorter clubs now. Now if could just figure out how to hit a dang fade...lol

Anywho, I'm sure you'll eliminate the push shots shortly..have fun. :-D

It would be nice to have a nice push-draw shot on your normal shot, though. I would guess that his draw is just a little too light?

Can't you just rotate the club a little to the left at address?  Maybe it would start a little less right, and draw back a little more?

For me personally, I wouldn't want that shot. I'd rather have a Controlled draw. My pushes aren't hit on purpose, but rather because of my swing flaw...meh.

I realize we are kind of taking over Ernies thread here (I hope he doesn't mind), but what exactly do you mean by a "controlled draw"?  IMO a push draw is the only good one.  All other draws do not end up on target.

Check out the ball flight laws, they are here somewhere..lol  A push draw starts left, a draw starts off straight. My definition of a controlled draw is a shot that draws about 3 or 4 yds tops, unless a shot is required to get around trees or something. Anyways, that's just how I look at it, whatever shot works for you is what you should hit. Like I said, I can't hit a push on purpose, so it's Not a shot I want to learn how to hit consistently..

Pull draw starts left and curves more left.  Straight draw starts straight and draws left of target.  Push draw starts right and draws back to target.

I agree with the 3 to 4 yards curvature, just think you had the terminology mixed up.  You know how most TST members feel about using the proper terminology. ;-)

Technically those aren't right either. That's relative to your stance. You can hit a pull-draw at the target just fine.

True. I should have been clearer. After all, I have read enough on here about Nicklaus and Trevino hitting "push fades" to the target.

    • For someone with a very consistent swing speed and ball strike, upgrades may improve performance. For everyday golfers, probably not. I'm a rather odd player. I usually get best performance from basic pro or tour heads, but with lighter stock shaft from the model's standard driver set up. (Yes, current EXS is an exception.) When I get a full driver fitting, I usually try a couple of modest upgrade  (not super magic) shafts. Most of the time upgrade gives a couple of extra yards, or 10 yards less. Remember this about stock shafts: They are matched to a particular driver model to fit the type of player likely to adopt that model. Also, most OEMs offer a variety of stock shafts in their drivers. Test for which one works best. And, the final decider...
    • Uh, seeing you're having trouble with hit-and-miss performance from inherited clubs... Get Fitted! IF the 910H pair don't work, swap them out. Also, only two degrees separation in loft is not much. You might consider a 4W (much more reliable than a 3W) plus hybrid. This would give more distance separation than two Hs. For hybrid, get one you can hit... Maybe a more benevolent 4H. Quite often I try to brand match my bridge clubs (FWs and Hs), and my irons and wedges... but not always. Whatever works!
    • Like others have said, get fitted. Since 2011, I have played some combination of 4W + 7W. I had a Cobra 3H and 4H a couple of years back, and would swap out the 7W for a 3H in cold months (keep out of cold wind, and rough thinner for wayward drives.) The 7W matched up with yardage often with 3H; the current 4H goes almost as long as 7W, but has a lower trajectory. 4H also bumped out 4i in last bag redo; I learned to hit stinger with 4H so that's my driving iron on tight holes with shallow landing area. Again, a side-by-side test will tell you which way to go. If 5W or 3H is meh, keep the 7W. Also, are you looking to replace the 7W with a 5W or 3H, or add a second bridge club (5W or 3H) to your bag?
    • Makes sense and aligns with other literature. Static stretching, especially for longer durations, can impede performance in strength and power activities. I would not want to do like hamstring, quad, and calf stretches then go immediately sprint. To me that sounds like a terrible Idea. I would rather start off walking, then jogging, then running, then ramp up to sprinting.  To me, static stretching isn't even a warmup activity. I like the term warmup; you want to get some exertion going before the activity.      a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; }
    • Going to Florida for the usual February golf trip, and with our current weather, that date won't get here soon enough. Heading to Augusta GA for the Tuesday Master's practice round, will definitely get some golf in while I'm in the area for a few days. Hope to be able to catch up with @coachjimsc if he's around. Then it's back to Scotland first of July.  Playing 7 new courses, can't wait for that.  Then somewhere after that is the Rhode Island CC Member-Guest and then my normal October golf trip to Myrtle Beach.
