So basically it's like this: the hands get so far in (they need a lot more ascent - you could feel like your left arm is going up and staying out toward your toe line), they never get up and the clubhead has to tip out, and you have to stay closed so long to keep the path from going out to in.

You're doing all you can with the drill, but the drill worked well because your backswing wasn't where it is in these videos - it was pretty much up the BS plane you use, while this video has you going well under the BS plane. Then the club tips out and your drill tries to force it back under again so you can swing out, not quite succeeding.

Thanks @iacas . I went to the course today before reading your post and actually had the best round of ball striking in weeks. I'm pretty sure I know what I need to do to get the BS back to a decent place, although I have always been a bit of an inside take-away guy...  I'll try to get some video up this week of what I'm doing to address this but basically I think I tend to get too "armsy" for the first foot or so of the backswing and don't really get any upper-body rotation started till around A2 (although I'm definitely 90* at A3, just way too flat) which leads to a really inside A3. This is a bit of a by product from the Evolvr work I did last year when I was straightening my trail knee WAY TOO SOON and getting all out of whack with my sequencing. I've probably taken this to too much of an extreme (or as Penick would say "taking the whole bottle of aspirin") but I won't really know till I take some video.

Took some dry run practice swings, after seeing your post, with this thought (get the upper body rotating sooner instead of being armsy) and from my POV it seemed like my A3 was MUCH better but I'll reserve judgement until I get some actual DTL video on it.

Regardless, I really did have a pretty good day today contact wise, lots of those beautiful, high lofted irons that just climb forever and land as sweet and softly as a swan on the green. Not a single worm burner, crapola shot which has been the bane of my existence lately "so I got that going for me."

Hitting some ugly pulls here and there but my main concern right now is just getting good clean contact and that has been improving greatly.

I'm reshuffling my priorities to get more practice time and less course time for the next few weeks to see if I can get things back on track. I'll post new video of me working on the BS soon.

Cheers  and thanks for the help.

OK. I just wanted to post some feels I'm working on to clean this up more. Feeling a lot more shoulder rotation to start the take away and thinking "steep" and then at transition just driving that lead shoulder above "the plane" to get everything moving into extension. Long arms, but not as much of an "active thought."

These are just a couple of practice swings with no ball but I think it's a good reference for me.

Good practice session this morning. Didn't get anywhere near as nice as those practice swings from above but it's reassuring to know that I don't need to add or do anything different than what I'm doing now. If it can produce those alignments in a practice swing, it can create those alignments in a real swing. I just need to keep at it.

Backswing is looking good, club head covers the hands or is even a touch outside them at A2 DTL instead of getting yanked way inside, but I'm coming OTT on the way backdown. I know from the practice swing video that getting the shoulder piece to be more immediate and explosive will get the path coming from the inside.

Less yanking to the inside.

This is were you can see I'm not getting my priority piece enough nor fast enough. I can see from the practice swing on the left that it WILL work, I just need to keep rep-ing it until it's natural.

Question for @iacas , is there any significance to the direction the shaft is leaning at this point in my swing?

No.

Pair those backswings with your priority piece and you're good to go.

This is going quite well! A couple days working on my backswing and I am very much back on track. Shot a 42 today. Matches my best round of the season and I left a lot of shots out there. Thanks Erik for getting me back on track. I feel like I'm back in control of my destiny again after feeling very much adrift over the past few weeks. Hooray 5SK! Not liking my Pure Grips though. They're great when dry but the minute I get a bit sweaty or it starts raining the slip factor is huge. Might redo my woods and hybrids in Crosslines to match my irons. I would love to go with NDMCs but holy cannoli, those suckers are expensive. :bugout: Might go that way anyway though, I only need to do 3 clubs.

That's fantastic!  Now, where's the damn vlog?!?!?! :-P

I have no experience with rain (not just golfing, but like, what is it?? ;)) but this is why there is no chance I could ever play golf without a glove, no matter which grip I had on there.  But with a quick wipedown and a glove, I'm having no problems with the Pures.  Except ... I also finally noticed a bit of wear on one of them.  My driver where my right thumb sits, the rubber is a little torn.  If it starts to bother me too much, I'll just break out the neon Niions. :)

I use Pures. And no gloves (unless it's pouring and I have to play, then, two rain gloves).

I guess I'm just not a sweaty pig like some people… ;)

Hey!  I resemble that remark!  But I don't wear a glove unless it is raining or really hot and humid and I become a perspiring porker.  I also wear wrist bands, so I look like I am going to play tennis. :)

A little better. I really have to watch that backswing or I start to get under plane, this one was so-so. A5 looks like crap but I seem to be more or less recovered by A6. I'm terrible at dividing my attention between two pieces so I expect to get my priority piece much better once I can stop worrying about the backswing plane. I can get really good positions through A6 and impact when there's no ball but I really fight tipping out once there's a ball. :yucky:

Doesn't help that my stupid right heel wants to come up so soon.
