i have a few clubs that i truly dont wanna get rid of..

Wilson "Staff" blades. Good ole' diggers. Might be some of the first blade irons they ever produced. The chrome is wearing down at the leading edge enough to notice a slight color change. and i know if i tried the refinishing process that with a modern chroming  they might hold up better, and look remarkable.

Ram Tom Watson Scoring System 60/14 wedge.

when i first "found" this wedge it was rusting on the bottom 4 or so grooves and the sole was turning black or a smudge brown. i use it out of the sand now and again and that kindve grinds off the unwanted worn down parts and bits of rust of the club like the face and sole.

Anybody try refinishing old blades or wedges?

Also anybody try "tumbling" copper clubs? like the ping eye2 Beryllium Copper irons for example.

I had a very old putter head (1930s) refinished by The Iron Factory.

http://www.theironfactory.com/

It came out beautiful, like new looking.

i have looked into their work, but i was skeptical. RE-chrome is something i hear is done only recently to keep those old blade irons alive. Most people consider their blades more important then their kids! haha just kidding but they do love their blades. so obviously giving them up to someone else is a bit risky. But as long as you like their work, then i have a good word to stand by.

I would suggest trying one club and seeing how it comes out.  They claim the new chrome is as durable as the original.

I used The GolfWorks to refurbish my first set of blades (PowerBilt Scotch Blades 2-PW).  They did a great job including painting back in the original colors the symbol and name on the back of the iron heads.  I now have them on display (still keeping the plastic on the heads).  I got them in 1967.  Wilson Staff blades were in high demand back in the day.  I got to hit a 5 iron back in the early 90's from a teaching pro.  Aren't they small compared to the newer blades of today?  I looked at my PowerBilt 2 iron the other day and it looked like a 2" butter knife.

well i noticed theironfactory has shaft options. i cut down my 7 iron for my nephew who loved it but later found a 7,9,putter and driver in his size in a freee bin at the course i play. im also quite a bit taller. about an inch over standard. so id like to reshaft them with something newer but not too light.

in terms of dimensions...your ABSOLUTELY right. they are quite strange actually. i compared them to the newer Wilson Staff FG 62 blades which could be the most beautiful blades out in this era. the sole is about an 1/8 to 1/4 inch thinner in the 76s vs the NEW 62s. the leading edge is quite sharp and you notice the second you touch the turf..they throw turf in yard sizes haha.

the blade from heel-to-toe its it about slightly smaller. it also has something different to what i see even in todays forgings. it looks to have a slight offset thats the same throughout the set.

each blade gets shorter from bottom leading edge to the topline.

EX. the 2 iron you notice the topline towards the hosel is considerably smaller (leading edge to topline) than the 9 iron or p-wedge in the identical spot. I'm not sure if its because the lost is less so it appears to be smaller.

i'll try to post some pictures

the 2 iron looks even harder to hit considering this.

the biggest thing that surprised me was the grooves are not only MASSIVE and boxy but they go to the VERY EDGES of the toe and heel. you couldnt fit anymore groove onto each line. this is weird in comparison to todays forgings where the center of the club is more focused with the grooves cut off a bit before you get to the toe end of the club.

I've considered it, but when all is said and done no set of irons has every had enough sentimental value for me to spend money refurbishing them. Especially when a different set of similar irons in better condition can be had on ebay. Who am I kiddin?!? I never get to play enough golf to "wear out" a set of irons. And I like the way wedges look and feel once they're all ratty and scuffed, so "no" there as well.

I was visiting a club maker and he pointed to a box with a set of old Titleist heads. "I told the guy for the price of refinishing and shafting he could have a new set of Miuras. That's why that box has been sitting in that corner for two years."

The Iron Factory .... hmmm. brought back some memories -- in 2006, the owner Kronus had some environmental issues when they were in California.

in most cases the cost is still less than the FG tours i bought last year.\

most people who want it done have played their irons for 15+ years...thats much less than buying 2 or 3 sets in that same time period. so in short...they pay for a new set just to play them for another 15 years

cant seem to find miuras for less than 1500 bucks! i'll take my chances at rechroming my old blades for half that in comparison to buying tourney blades from miura...especially when i cant see them in the flesh anywhere in a tri-state area over in the east coast

I really want to refinish a set of my Dad's '99 Hogan Apex Blades, get them in a satin chrome finish.  These guys are within 30 minutes of me http://www.bosgolf.com/finishes.html but I don't see satin chrome as an option
