I purchased a set of Taylormade TP MC with project X 6.0 shafts about three months ago and I seemed to have lost distance even though it appears I'm hitting the sweet spot. They feel great and I can work the ball when i need to, but my distance isn't there anymore. I've never been a long ball hitter (though it would be nice), but my lack of consistent ball striking is getting frustrating. I've messed with my swing, my grip and even thought about re-shafting the clubs. I'm new to this site, but have seen a lot of helpful tips. I was just wondering if ther were any thoughts?

6.0 shafts are very stiff.  If you say you were not a long hitter to begin with, it's possible they are too stiff for you.  For example, my driver swing speed is 103-105, and I use Rifle (not Project X) 5.5. What shafts did you have before these?

I believe that is a big change to a much stiffer shaft with a different profile

I'm assuming your previous set was the R7's because of the T-step 90 shafts,  not the R7 Tp's

First off, different lofts, R7's are about 2* stronger throughout the bag.  Softer forged material compared to a cast iron with their inverted cone design in the face of the iron.  6.0 shafts are an X flex, 5.5 is stiff.  T-step 90 shafts is 90 grams compared to Project X which is 120 grams, 30 grams is huge.  Would be surprised if you hadn't lost distance.  If you want to hit it further but keep the same heads, I'd change the shafts, won't be as long as the R7's, I'm assuming because I don't know your swing swing, etc.

I appreciate the info, do you have any suggestions on a replacement shaft? I like the way the irons feel, but GIR would be nice. I wouldn't have to rely on my short game so much!

If you want the same weight as your old irons, you could try the KBS Tour 90 in regular or stiff shaft.  Don't discount the loft differences, 2* is pretty significant.  That's a problem with some of these iron manufacturers that are pushing "longer distances".  They make you think it's some new technology they invented when in reality they are turning your PW into a 9i.

I went from X100's in my taylormade tour burners to rifle flighted 6.5's and noticed the same. after hitting the range for about a month, i got my distances back...it takes getting used to i think.

Some of my friends had great success with the Dynamic Gold Lite shafts.  They're 109 grams, so while they're not quite as light as the T-step 90 shafts, they're a heckuva lot lighter than the standard weight DG shafts (127-130, R300-S300, respectively).  Also, they're about half the price of the Project X shafts (@ $18 compared to Project X's $34 per shaft).  Just another suggestion.

Yes I agree with Tomboys and Newtogolf.  Couple links to check out.  Where are you in California, I might know a good club fitter to go to

As mentioned, the irons are aren't as strong as your old ones and the shaft isn't right for you. A lighter shaft with a softer flex would work better. You could try the KBS and Dynamic Gold mentioned so far, or since you said you like the feel, check out the PXi, Project X's new lightweight version (http://www.golfsmith.com/product/30075980/project-x-pxi-355-tapered-iron-shaft) in a 5.0 (R+ flex) or 5.5 (S flex).
