I know i have a problem a many of golfers would love to have but...

I have been working my but off for many a years to get rid of my slice....so a couple of years ago I cured my problem. Now I have nothing but a persistent hook; not a bad one...maybe 10 yards on a 230 yard drive. Now I am so used to swinging inside out that I can't get a fade. I am so scared to adjust my swing in that my slice will come back and it would no longer leave me. I can adjust my driver and straighten my ball path up and get a little fade but that doesnt help my swing; plus I cant do this in the middle of the round. I have tried opening my stance a little but all that gets me is a small hook little more left...

Any suggestions

Tim

Or keep the same grip, but open the clubface a bit. Do this before you grip the club.

Also, just to add to what these two already said, make sure the ball is positioned forward enough in your stance. Too far back and you'll hit too down and out at the ball.

Other causes unrelated to set-up pieces:

1. Standing up too fast, not enough side-tilt. Try to maintain more side-tilt through the shot.

2. Arms coming off the torso on the through swing and swinging too vertical to the finish. The fix is practicing with a tee under each armpit to feel more connected.

3. Too much spine tilt to the right (for righties) on the downswing. The fix is tilting more to the left on the backswing so your hand path isn't too far inward.

4. Early extension: The spine straightening too soon. On the backswing, let your trail knee lose some of its flex and the trail hip to get higher than your lead hip to slow this extension down.

5. Not enough extension: You probably have too much flex in your knees on the through swing, in which case you need to feel like you are jumping off the ground through impact.

6. The hips are moving forward (or the weight is moving forward) too fast and the hands get stuck behind. Feel like you're bringing your arms down faster and your weight isn't going forward.

Orrrrrr you could just post a swing clip of you hitting your miss. Then you wouldn't have to play this guessing game

I am a little scared to weaken my grip any further (I have a neutral grip now)....when I was working with my coach to get rid of my slice I had a very strong grip. We worked together until he got my swing put together with a "Hogan-ess" swing plane and grip and it has been working wonderful for me except my fear of changing anything to accomplish a different ball path.

If you are indeed swinging too far out to the right, the handle needs to go lower and left earlier. A good drill is swinging with tees under your arms, which will straighten out the path. However, without seeing a swing we can only guess...

Squat when I stand back up I lift the kettlebell up over and behind my head and hold then repeat
    • Not sure this is the best thread but, if the rain holds off, today is my 1st round of the year.  Getting ready I can not find my Shot Scope.  I guess I put it away too well for the winter and thus that is may "Winter Depression".  I'm sure I put it somewhere that made sense at the time.
