For my game, I use a 50, 56, and 60 deg wedge.  I use my 50 deg for normal chipping to the green, unless I have alot of height or limited green, then I use the 56.  I also use the 60 from the greenside sand or extreme lob situations.  The 60 tends to work best for the type of sand I have on my home course.

The thing I really want to bring up, because it's improved my game, is that while I hit my 50 deg quite often at full swing because it is my 100yd club, I seldom use the 56 and 60 for anything other than half swings.  In other words, when I am about 35-40 yards out, I will use my 56 and only swing at 50%, instead of using the 60 and taking a full swing.  When I take a half swing (hands at 9:00), I find that I have much better control than trying to swing less or swing more, and my yardage is more consistent.

Having 3 wedges impacts my options on the other side of my yardage range, but being more accurate in the short game is more important to me.

But, several months into this experiement I have found I have developed a much better feel and speed control that I never had with the touch shots. I can understand the recommendations to get proficient with multiple clubs around the green, but, I think I'm going to stick with the 56 for a while and see just how good I can get with it.

I have a 52 and 60 that seem to be working out well.

I still prefer my 9 iron most shots around the green. Probably because its all I used for months and got used to hitting every shot within 135 yards or so with.

I have read on other forums guys swearing by just using ONE wedge. Im not sure I buy into it...and Im wondering how they score...but it does seem like since I can make pretty much any shot around the green with a 9 iron, that one would do the job too. Id gotten really good at opening up the 9 iron and hitting even lob shots with it before I bought the wedges I have now.

I use different clubs, depending on the lie. Most of the time I will use my 52º wedge, sometimes the 58º and sometimes 8-PW. Technique makes the difference, regardless og what club you use. I will agree that it is easier to apply the proper technique to one club all the time, but I really want the versatility of being able to use different clubs. In the end, experiment and do whatever works for you. There are no rules here.

I have 4 wedges 62, SW, PW and 48 very low bounce

Wedges around the green for me always depends on the lie

having more wedges gives you options and thats what its about

To be really good, you need to be good with all your clubs in a variety of situations.  Having a "standard" shot with a certain club is really all about creating a comfort zone.  This game is tough.  Some days you will not be able to hit anything and you just won't know why.  Having something you can fall back on is key.  Tour pros do it because they have to if they want to survive the athleticism, touch, feel and timing droughts.

There are Tour players (and a few low single digit players) who basically use one wedge. They don't "need to" be good with all their clubs in a variety of situations. They could do that, because they're awesome, but many of them use one or two clubs then focus on controlling the spin.

I carry SW, GW, PW . I like to pitch and run so I 'll use the 7i ans 8i also.  If' i can't get it done with those I bring out the Wi.....yep, Wonder iron..... the same one that Corey Pavin used last week.   A game of skill with lucky out comes.

I agree and that is my preferred route as well. I use my 60 Miura wedge exclusively around the green. Well, I use a 56 SW for the bunkers, but it has the bounce I desire from the beach. My wife was reading in Annika Sorenstam's book the other day and Annika said she got a tip from Tiger about using only one wedge around the green for all the different shots. She took his advice and had some of the best years of her career afterwards. If the worlds best male and female golfer use one wedge, I think it is safe to say it is worth considering.

I tend to use my standard PW as much as possible and keep it low. I'll use my sand wedge for bunkers, bad lies or if I need some height. Rarely use the Lob wedge, situational club for me.

I carry a 50*, 56* and a 60*. The 50 is my perfect 100-110yd club. The 56* is the workhorse on short approaches and around the green. And the 60* is the specialty club. When I use the 60* I am always glad to have that option.
