I've been putting with a Taylormade Rossa Monte Carlo that's center shafted for about a year now, and switching to a center shafted putter has really improved me hitting putts where I'm aiming.  The problem I've been having with it lately is that I've been having a lot of problems with my speed with the insert.  I just don't seem to get a consistent distance.  When I switch to one of my non-insert putters, my distance is great, but I tend to push them to the right.

I've been trying out a few other center shafted putters, and I seem to be drawn to the Scotty Cameron Newport 2.6.  Without the insert, my distance control is much better, and I don't seem to push them like I do with a heel shafted putter.

Are there any other center shafted putters worth trying out to sway me away from the Newport 2.6?

i'm a big fan of Yes! putters for consistent/pure roll (and no inserts).  I think the Natalie and Hanna models are center-shafted mallets if you wanted something somewhat similar to your Monte Carlo.

Although I've not actually gamed them, the Cleveland classic putters alway seem nice to me and won't break the bank.  the model 5.5 is a center shafted mallet (with no insert).

I'm also a big Yes! fan.  I don't think they make them anymore but I love my Yes! Carolyne.

I have the Scotty Cameron studio 2.6 and it is very nice.  I also have a YES Hanna which is still probably my favourite.  Also have a Ping C67 which is, in my opinion, a real sleeper which should get moe attention.  Also have future lmallet 2 but just cannot make it sing.

And yes, I really like CS putters

Just to be up front, I'm a huge Scotty Cameron homer, while I don't yet own a Studio Select Newport 2.6, my brother does and I think it is one of the best of the Scotty Cameron line.  I've used his putter for several rounds and will be getting one before summer starts.

Love my Ping Wack-E 1/2. Nice weight, consistent pace off the face and easy to start the ball on the correct line.

Just a shame it resembles a ridiculous star trek weapon or something...

I tried one of those at Golf Town. I made almost everthing but couldn't get past the appearance. A couple more successful practice/demo sessions ought to do it.

That's why I posted this thread.  I have to drive quite a ways to Pinehurst/Southern Pines or Raleigh to get custom fitted.  I don't have 4 days to go hit every putter at 4 different shops in the area, so I was wondering if there's any that I should make a concerted effort to make sure I try them before I pay the money and get fitted.  I can get the Scotty at the shop that I buy most of my stuff at, I have hit it and like it a lot.  They only sell Scotty Cameron, Ping, Bettanardi and TaylorMade putters.  So that's all I can go hit on short notice and hit a lot.  Out of those, I preferred the Scotty.  But I am willing to make the hour drive to Raleigh or Pinehurst if there's one of those "must try" putters before spending the money.

Have you looked at SeeMore putters?  They will not win a style contest but they do not have inserts.  I just bought an SB1 and it is a pretty nice putter, though I prefer the TM Ghost Spider.

I noticed the Cleveland Classics are currently on sale at rockbottomgolf.com for $39...almost worth the gas money if you wanted to try a blind internet purchase (which as a lefty, i unfortunately have to do a lot).

No kidding?  Did the players use the putters from the tee, through the fairway, and onto the green?

Just being a smart***...I am always amused when I hear a "club" won a tournament with no mention or regard for the player that actually used the club.  If I were to kill a bird with a stone, would the stone get credit or would I for being precise enough to hit a flying bird with a small stone?

i can't say anything to sway you away from the 2.6. i've tried tons of putters but my 2.6 is by far my favorite and has at the very least a sentimental spot in my 'permanent bag'...i'll always have that thing lol good luck tho!

Guess I could state, "they were used to win a..."

But then, most members know what is meant without being a smartass and detracting from the thread.

Here's a putterzone review that raves about the pickemup . I just ordered it. It's a center-shafted face-balanced putter. I have the Anser 2 but it's toe weighted, more conducive to an arc stroke. My new stroke is straight. At least I think it is!
