Good info.  Whether it's the ball or something else, I think distance control is all that's lacking in his ballstriking.  And honestly, I don't know how anyone can putt well with that ball because the cover is so stiff.

We're not talking about Tour players, we're talking about Tiger.  He should be averaging less than six feet.
His website, which is usually pretty up to date, still has Tiger using the One Tour D.
Yeah, i'm pretty sure he is still playing Tour D. I don't think he has ever played the 20Xi in a tournament. I have mixed feelings myself...feels and sounds like you are hitting a ping pong ball...has a hollow feel...feels so light. But it sure does explode off the face...thats for sure.

No wonder Tiger played so bad....he had to watch his playing partner shoot +16. Not easy to score when you have to watch someone hacking it up. I could have shot +16!! ;-) Probably not, but I am going to act confident. I would have just stared at Tiger the whole time and totally forgot I was even playing golf. My caddie would have to slap me in the face to get me to stop watching all his shots. ha

J. Rose on his way to the second lowest round ever recorded on the course, and he played the Bear Trap -2.  What is it that's making the scores so low today?

Today was a good day at the Honda. The weather was pleasant and the wind picked up. I got to see Tiger, Lee, and the poor guy that stood in for Poulter. Woods hit some loose shots today the first one on the short #4 where he hit his 3 iron right and beaned a guy right on the head. He got a good bounce some 20 yards forward and stuck a wedge for the bird. The next hole, a par 3, he doubled with a poor tee shot. On 6 he blew driver right again and hit from the palm trees and managed par. Finally he played 8 text book - fairway, green, bird. Westwood played solid not really making any mistakes. Rory was impressive out driving Bradely and Stanely a few times. He bombed it on 3 and made bird, bombed it on 4 and 6 and then almost hit the pin but missed the 3 footer for bird. Keegan and Stanely looked good but Rory is the deal. The best thing about the Friday groupings is that the groups are really spread out. At one point we walked with Darren Clarke and Paddy and we were part of a gallery of 12! Ricky was tame today and was paired with Boo. We watched Love come around on 16 where he hit a perfect tee shot and missed the green only to chip it in. I saw a lot of golf today and got a major lesson on tempo. Wow. Sunday I am spotting for the Golf Channel somewhere in the Bear Trap, so hopefully I will have some good things to pass along.

When Rory makes impact with his driver, does it sound like large-caliber rifle shot going off?  Because that's what it looks like on TV.

You can hear all those guys bust it. Rory is just so pure and he had so many people rooting for him. Tiger had the bigger gallery, with some some real yahoos (Mashed Potatoes on every tee shot) along with a ton of security and Rory (who played in the PM) had almost as big of a following with a crowd who definitely had more etiquette.

Mashed potatoes is so dumb.  I'd much prefer someone yelled "crawfish etouffee" or "veal scallopini" or even "bacon cheeseburger".  Of all the things to yell, why mashed potatoes?

But if the stats include shots from thick rough or waste areas, then of course they will bring the average up.

They list the details at the bottom of every stats page:

The average distance the ball comes to rest from the hole in feet when a player hits his approach from a distance range from 100 yards up to 125 yards. The approach shot must originate from fairway and must end on or around the green. (074)

I have people for reading the bottom of pages. Whatever, Tiger's wedges sucked today. He had a shot from about five yards off the green, good lie in the fairway, nothing between him and the hole but flat terrain covered by closely mown grass. It seemed like a good candidate for a putt, but for some reason he tried a flop shot, and it went about two yards.

Tiger spent so much time in the woods you would have thought there were Waffle House waitresses hiding out in them.

The most difficult distance in golf is the six inches between your ears.

Those must be some amazing waffles.

Is there such a thing as bad waffles?

Louis O had fun finishing up, dropping 5 shots in the last 5 holes. His ears got so red, I expected steam to start shooting out of them.

Course looks tough, despite the scores. Will probably be in Palm Beach later this year to visit sister-in-law. Might have to call TS and go card a 90 or so.

His wedges are still killing him. On the last two holes, he hit two perfect drives, and two bad wedges from inside 120. Escaped with a par on the first one, cost him a bogey on the second one. From where he was on the fairway, he should have birdied both of them.

Rory ... putting for dough.

How was Tiger's round?....missed it and DVR decided to record my wife's Project Runway marathon instead. It looks like it was pretty windy out there, but how did he putt.

    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
    • So, Brendan Sorsby, Texas Tech transfer QB, was found guilty of sports betting by the NCAA. He admitted to it. He placed thousands of bets over multiple years while at Indiana and Cincinnati. This included betting on his own teams.  The NCAA rules ban athletes from betting on any sport (college or pro).  A retired visiting judge from Tarrant County, Texas has put an injunction on the NCAA ruling. He is a visiting judge because the first judge was a graduate and big fan of Texas Tech, and he recused himself. The judged ruled the following... "Under Curry's order, Sorsby is permitted to play for Texas Tech's 2026 season on the condition that he continues his treatment for a gambling and anxiety disorder and serves a two-game suspension (missing games against Abilene Christian and Oregon State)."  Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly care for the NCAA. That still doesn't mean that a college can choose when or where to say, "Yea we agree to these rules for all our sports, well except in this case." Here is a breakdown from S&W. The Hidden Weapon in Sorsby’s Injunction: How a Lubbock County Court Order Quietly Neutralized the NCAA’s Most Powerful Enforcement Tool - Law Offices of Snell & Wilmer By Ryan J. Regula On June 8, 2026, Lubbock County District Court Judge Ken Curry issued a temporary injunction in Brendan Sorsby v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, Cause No. DC-2026-CV-0791 (99th Judicial District... The main judgement made sense. Sorsby, I am going to have all this harm done to me if I don't get to play. The Judge, I agree. The penalty for gambling is too harsh, so here are all these things you must do, and I will grant this injunction against the NCAA. Basically, an analogy would be when a person goes into court for a DUI and they agree to all these other things to not end up in jail.  What sucks for the NCAA is the NCAA has appealed to Texas’ Seventh Court of Appeals, based in Amarillo. All four justices that preside over the court are graduates of Texas Tech University School of Law. It would be hilarious if all four of them had to recuse themselves 🤣. For those who like to read legal rulings...
    • The chatter in my brain is when the distance is between clubs since I am pretty weak at shortened backswings, etc. I try to simply decide if being long or short is the better outcome and choose my club based on that and simply not even try for the “real” distance.  For me a full normal swing is what I strive for.
