Tough to get shallow on the downswing if you're already shallow on the backswing.

Screen Shot 2016-05-27 at 2.05.26 PM.png

First step would be to allow the arms to gain depth as you turn your body. Put a tee in your left armpit, that will help lessen the amount the arms roll on the backswing. It'll feel like zero rotation of the forearms on the takeaway.

Like this. Compare your club face position at A2 and the orientation of the shaft (hand depth) at A3 to Ko's.

Why does the backswing matter?  I am shallow on the downswing with this current swing video.   I am well outside the ball at A5 and spot on at A6.

Swing sequence today:

Because it does.

If you're too shallow on the backswing you're probably going to steepen it in transition.

 That is an awful answer.

I hit all the key position on the downswing and my Evolvr coach didnt mention my backswing position as a concern.

Please give a detailed explanation why it is sooo bad?  I am plenty shallow on my downswing.

No thanks.

@mvmac gave you an answer, you refuted it, I elaborated it, and you told me that it was a terrible answer.

No, I asked why it matters when I hit the downswing positions just fine.

He never gave any answers, just stated to model another golfer while ignoring my downswing altogether.

You're not hitting good positions.

Why is that a factor?

I am posting my priority piece from a4 to a5.   That shaft angle of my downswing you posted as "not good" is identical to Robert Rock's...  Please give some detailed info as to why it is not a good position.

So far I have hit all of my checklist positions and the angles are identical to a pros.  I'd say that is pretty good...

I watched that Ko clip a couple of times. I found it difficult to spot the learning point, but I think I saw it. To me, she takes the club up and starting the backswing, it droppes ever so slightly on a flatter plane.

Golf. So difficult. Time to for me to just hush, listen, read and watch.:-D

Every golfer has a different backswing, it is silly to copy one golfers like that.  The backswing position of Lydia Ko has no affect on your swing.

Everything in the golf swing is affected by what precedes it.  And @mvmac knows what he's talking about, so him giving you backswing advice doesn't mean he's "ignoring" your downswing.  It means that if you make those changes, you'll see improvement, and it will likely lead to improvement in your downswing as well.

Erik's screenshot with angles shows that you're going shallow to steep and it should be the other way around.  Ideally those two images would just trade places.  It's hard.  I'm working on this as well.

Well I get they are connect but I have yet to hear why it matters when I DO hit my downswing positions.

A5 is pointing outside the ball.

The angle Eric posted is identical in degrees to Robert Rocks at that same position and mirrors my plane from A5.

My clubface is slightly inside my hands and slightly closed at A6.

Not sure how being shallow on my backswing could affect my downswing so terribly when I hit so many positions well.  Why does it have to go from steep to shallow?

Its also odd that two of the instructors here are ignoring that I am working on a priority piece that  my own Evolvr coach said to focus on.  He directly told me my backswing position at A3 was not a concern at this time.

You really aren't.

There is more to the swing than measuring angles.

Your A4 to A5 isn't good either. You do it with hand and arm depth instead of doing it properly.

So why does one angle matter and when I hit that angle it doesn't matter?

Are my hands in a bad spot at a6?

What about my Evolvr priority piece?

There is no "one angle" that matters. I didn't use angles to prove anything other than the fact that you're going shallow to steep. It's only because you're so shallow on the backswing that when you steepen you stay "kinda" shallow, but you're basically faking it. The club is tipping out the entire downswing.

They are at 2, 3, 4, and 5. They look "okay" at 6 but you have to consider where the shaft and sweetspot were and where they're going.

I do see you submitted videos on May 6, May 12, and May 16. That's most likely not an effective use of evolvr.

@pumaAttack, giving people a hard time who are trying to help you and using their spare time to do it is probably not the best way to go about things.

Everything you want to know is on the site somewhere. It's not just about hitting certain positions, but how you got there. The path you take from A4 to A5 affects how you get to A6 and ultimately to A7. So while you can take a snapshot at A6 and see a good position, it doesn't tell the whole story of the swing.

BTW shallowing improperly just leads to different compensations.

Thanks for your reply.

I was not giving people a hard time, I was asking them to answer a question that they kept ignoring. Them just repeating, "you aren't", is not a good reply.  As far as I can tell I have hit all the positions in my swing that my coach has me working on.

I know how you got there matters and I was asking for help and clarification on what they were saying.  My own Evolvr coach has not made those a priority piece for me so not sure why the other Evolvr coach on here ignored that I am working on something else at the moment.

Most importantly though,

I have learned to just ignore this thread and focus on my lessons with my Evolvr coach.  No more posting in here.  If one coach can't get on the same page as the other, it is best to stick to the one who knows your swing best.

Kinda shallow?

i have the same angle as the pros I compared myself too...  roughly 55 degrees at A5.  Why is my angle bad here?

Ha, so you checked the dates and know the whole story, eh?   I am no longer posting here either, you are not helpful to my progression.

@mvmac, the person I asked the question to, has yet to respond.

I called your answer of "Because it does" awful.  Because is not an actual answer but a quick response lacking any discourse on the subject.  I asked why it mattered and told I was wrong...

it is also RUDE to repeatedly cut out my other comments and just attack my backswing when its not my priority piece, which you should know all about.

    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
