Just had to express my excitement to anyone that understands how much of an accomplishment this is.

This works out well since I am able to hit the range every monday at lunch to offset the crack addiction on the "off" weekends.

Edit:

I just realized from reading this how much my life has changed since getting married.

The little man has definitely changed the way I "declare" my schedule.  Once he is a bit older and more self-sufficient (only 4 months old now) it may be easier for me to get out more often but for now I will take what I can get.

It doesn't help that we live in a top 5 of the most expensive cities in the country (Stamford, CT) and having a baby is not cheap so spending 60$ a month on greens fees is a lot more convincing than $120+.

Only problem with this is that she doesn't have a lot of girl friends (she works at a certain major wrestling company which will remain nameless) and works around a lot of guys that have become her buddies.

I'm sure I'll find a way soon enough to extend my playing time.  For now, I'll just watch the Golf Channel so much that she begs me to get out of the house just to make it stop.

In another 4 months it gets a lot worse. They are so much easier to take care of when they can't move. But yeah if you play it right in 10 years you will have a partner on the course and taking care of the kid means playing golf. At least that is my plan if I can make it another 5 years

Patience.

You've only got 4-5 more years, and then she'll beg you to take your child with you to the course every weekend.

I take the 5 yr old to the range with me all the time. We hang around the short game area. I actually get in some practice.

This makes no sense to me.   I don't understand the whole "Married with kids=Can't play golf" concept. I can understand why it might not be a good idea to tee off at NOON on the weekend, play a 5hr round, spend 1-2hrs at the 19th hole, and be gone all day!!  OK.....can see how that can be a problem, but it's more about proper scheduling and common sense than it is anything else.  As a person married 20yrs with kids, I do not relate to the above posts in the slightest.  I have always played at least 4 times a week!

My advice:

Play early on the weekends and be home before NOON.  ..............and what wife isn't happy to get their husband out of the house two weekday evenings too?  Seriously....I don't comprehend where these people are coming from....it's as if they are required to be in same room with their spouse 24/7 seven days a week or something.  That's just plain crazy.....unless $$ is the real issue. IE....money is tight and it's either you have the money to buy diapers or play golf.

I completely see your point Buckeye....but every marriage is different.  My wife loves me and supports my sporting activities but there is a difference (to her) between a 2 hour soccer game in which she can come and watch (with the baby) and a 3-5 hour excursion at the course while she is at home with the infant.  It is not a pressing issue in my eyes because I know that we will come to an understanding as soon as we get a rhythm going.

This is merely the first step towards getting back into my golf game.....and I'm quite happy about it.

Haha good for you...now somehow aim for once a week. I need to golf at least once a week to keep myself fulfilled. Don't keep trying to come back for more. She will get angry lol. If you want to keep yourself occupied with golf, checkout my new blog and tell me what you think so far (link below in signature). I'm trying to get it kickstarted

The blog looks good man.  My only feedback (since it is a very new blog) is that you probably don't want to get caught up in repeating information like stats (i.e. Dufner recently became the only other person to have 2 wins this year with his recent win at the HP Byron Nelson Championship. The first person who achieved this was Hunter Mahan) simply because I can find that anywhere.  I, personally, like reading blogs for the opinions and experiences of someone I can relate to.

That's just my $.02.

BTW......anyone else feel the need to stare incessantly at online golf shops to just fantasize about how cool it would be to have more clubs?  I have to do it just to get my "fix".

I'm married and play 3x a week. I tell my wife when I'm playing, I don't ask permission. It's all about setting precedents.

next year you have to talk her into letting you join a weekly league....then you add the occasional weekend in....THEN next year you play league and every other weekend....THEN the following year you add the extra tee time and BOOM you have enough golf to satisfy your need and your wife doesn't get mad....

Its all about baby steps my friend.

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
