When somebody gets hurt, because they thought it would be funny, and decided to dive in front of a teed up ball, when the players swings.

Nobody ever calls them out. If I were there, and I paid $200 for my ticket, and somebody yells out stupid crap after impact. I would turn around and yell at them to STFU AS$HOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree it is really getting horrible.  Maybe they should make golf tournaments alcohol-free zones.  I just don't understand why for a certain small number of people, every social outing is an excuse to get drunk.  Do the fans at the Euro events not drink as much?  Because I just don't hear this type of nonsense when I watch the European tour on tv.

Although I laughed at the "nice layup" guy too.  :)

I don't get the heckling. You'd think people would want them to play the best they can. I get that people like to rubber-neck at the train wreck. But you can see that for free any day of the week at your local course.

Mostly exhibitionism I suspect, as in "look at me, I'm a crass fool and don't mind who knows it".

Anyone notice Beau Hossler's "69" belt buckle?  I get that the number has score significance, but I'm not so sure I'd be wearing that on national tv.

No we can handle our beer better!!

Seriously, the Tiger popularity thing didnt genetrate as many young fans here as it did in the states so crowds tend to have an older age profile leading to better behaviour. Some of the events on the continent have pretty low attendances compared to the US as well.

The biggest worry on people shouting is little kids learning new words from Sergio!

I was there on Thursday and I followed the Big 3 and I would say that almost everyone that I was near behaved rather well. I don't recall any "GET IN THE HOLES" or "MASHED POTATOES" during Tiger Phil and Bubbas round. Maybe you guys heard some on TV but it was mostly ooooohs ahhhs and applause after shots. Maybe the fact that it was a 7:30am tee time kept the riff raff away also. There was one jerk at the tail end of the round who kept making loud enough comments for everyone around to hear. He kept saying "Cmon Tiger do it for Elin", or "did Elin pick that sweater out for ya?" I was standing right next to the guy praying that nobody thought it was me making those comments.

On a side note, the crowd was very pro Phil. Not necessarily anti Tiger but for every fan that yelled Let's go Tiger, there were at least 5 Lets go Phil, or lets go Lefty. I thought that was interesting.

The line at one of the beer and wine stands at the open was 10-15 deep ten minutes before it even opened. The doors went up at 10:30am and people actually applauded LOL.

Why didn't you SLAP that guy for saying such stupid comments. If I'd been there, I would have had my foot stuck to his forehead. People like that should be shipped off to Siberia.

Wait a minute, 10:30am for a beer sales? And people were cheering for it to open? Good lord, everyone is a drunk bastard, why wonder they fall over at 8:30pm.

Bunch of alchololics out there.

Wait, you went? I thought the doctor said you needed surgery? Or you postponed it?

I lucked out and my doc decided to put me on Prednazone (Steroids) and pain meds instead of surgery right away. Im no doc so I hope I explain this right. But his reasoning was with the steroids that may help my body attack the piece of the ruptured disc on it's own and absorb it without surgery. He said something about my body should recognize the piece of disc as foreign and out of place and attack it. The doc said I had a good chance of avoiding surgery all together. I'll find out if this worked later this week. I feel great, but Im also on vicodin so who knows?

They might expect it from Jim Furyk (who didn't lay up by the way), but not the longest hitter on the course.

I know he's one of the longest hitters on tour.  You know he's one of the longest hitters on tour.  How many of them do you think knew that?

Trust me, I wanted to say something but this guy was in his 50's at least and If you dont know how to act at that age, you're a lost casue in my book.

Congratulations to Webb Simpson. He and I were formerly tied, along with a number of other golfers, for the fewest major championships won.

Can anyone tell me what "Light the candle!" means? Some goon was yelling that every time Tiger hit a shot from the tee or fairway. The only time I've heard it before was at a friend's house where the ceiling fan in the bathroom was broken and they always yelled, "Light the [scented] candle!" when you used the toilet.

    • hey guys, sorry about the kind of short notice, but i'm not going to be able to make it to the outing this year....
    • Had to correct the distance - should have read 5,400 not 5,500  yds.
    • Had to report this one - played Minnesott again today with my son.  We played behind the Friday Men's group and had a decently paced round.  My round started off par-par-bogie.  I was feeling good to be +1 through three.  Played the next two par - par and then disaster hits - well I thought it may be the unravelling of +1 through five.  Tee shot on six is a hard pull hook into the ditch separating four and six.  I know the ball is lost and re-tee - hitting three off the tee on this par five.  Long story short - what should have been at worst a bogie became a triple 8.  Now I'm +4 through six holes.  Get a solid par on seven (which I celebrated as a solid recovery hole).  Eight is a birdie and I'm back to three over.  Nine, a par 3 over water, finishes par for a 39 front.   We roll to the back to where I birdie ten (the toughest hole on the back) to be -1 after the first hole on the back, +2 for the round.  Par eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen and fifteen - that was an in the zone moment.  Have to note that fourteen - the second par 3 on the back - I hit the tee shot just short right of the flag.  Easy pitch with the 56 should put me close for a tap in par.  It does not happen - as I duff the pitch to about 3yds closer.  I reset and this time I nip it nicely only to see it land and slowly roll to the cup and drop in for a chip-in par save ( a first).   We get to sixteen and I am thinking this could be a really good round.  It's also a par 5 and I hit a solid tee shot.  I'm about 220 from the center of the green and figure I can layup with the 3w as there is a nice landing area in front of the green and it would play nicely into the typical distance I hit this club.  I'm sitting about 50 yds from the flag to the right hand side.  I overcook the 56 and see the ball bounce off the back of the turtle green.  I hit an easy 56 again to see the ball roll to the other side of the green.  Long story it became a 3putt double.  Now I am +4 through sixteen.  The last two holes are solid pars - one an up and down, the other a GIR two putt. Finished the back 1 over at 37.  Total score is a 76!  A new personal best.  Best "all around" play through the bag to date.
    • Day 562, May 17, 2024 Spent a LOT of time on GEARS stuff today, so while waiting for imports, exports, and all manner of things, I did some rehearsals in the mirror and camera in my basement.
    • Day 16 (17 May 24) - Plans to play a local course with a good friend fell through, got with my son to play Minnesott.  Turned out to be a great day of golf - as we were playing behind the Friday Men's group, pace was steady but not rushed or dreadfully slow.  Had a solid day of ball striking - managing 11 of 14 fairways hit, 8 GIR and 5 nGIR, 27 putts (including a hole out chip in from just off the green to save par with the 56deg wedge).  Shot a new personal best of 76 (39 front / 37 back) from the gold tees (just over 5,500 yds).   Was a good day and my son had a decent day for him as well with an 88.
